“ | You asked if you were bad for me. That's not it. We are bad for each other. [...] Jimmy... I have had the time of my life with you. But we are bad for everyone around us, other people suffer because of us. Apart we're... okay, but together... we're poison. [...] I love you, too. So what? [...] I knew he was alive. [...] It was about a month ago. I saw that car following me again. And it turned out that Mike Ehrmantraut had guys watching both of us, watching... for Lalo. [...] Jimmy... I thought... I thought it was a one-in-a-million chance that he'd come for us, I thought he would be caught if he did, and I told myself I was protecting you. But that's not the truth. The reason I didn't tell you was because I knew what you'd do. [...] You'd... you'd blame yourself. You'd fear for me. You'd want us to run and hide until you were sure I was safe. You would pull the plug on the scam, and then... and then, uh... we'd break up. And I didn't want that... because I was having too much fun. | „ |
~ Kim breaking up with Jimmy. |
Kimberly "Kim" Wexler is the tritagonist of the crime drama Better Call Saul, a prequel to Breaking Bad.
She was formerly a clerk at the Hamlin, Hamlin, McGill (HHM) law firm, where she met her boyfriend-turned-ex-husband, con man lawyer Jimmy McGill. Kim becomes a highly competent, upstanding attorney in the firm, wholly dedicated to working hard and defending her clients. She has a particular passion for pro bono work while finding upper-level cases to be unfulfilling and stressful.
Kim becomes increasingly entangled in and complicit with Jimmy's unethical behavior due to their shared disillusionment with the corporate legal environment and thrill-seeking obsession, often arguing on behalf of him and berating their superiors - Jimmy's brother Chuck and HHM CEO Howard Hamlin. She eventually co-founds Wexler McGill with him, which consisted of twin solo firms, with Jimmy practicing elder law and Kim handling legal matters for Mesa Verde Bank and Trust and, briefly, Billy Gatwood. Kim also becomes the head of Schweikart & Cokely's banking division before quitting the firm and dropping Mesa Verde to focus her attention on public pro bono work.
Jimmy's criminal activities lead both of them to become associated with the Mexican drug cartel (known simply as The Cartel), mainly Don Lalo Salamanca, and criminal enforcer Mike Ehrmantraut, who ends up protecting them due to his allegiance to the drug kingpin Gus Fring, an enemy of the Salamancas.
Kim and Jimmy end up enacting a character assassination scheme against Howard, framing him for being a cocaine addict to force an early settlement to the Sandpiper Crossing class-action lawsuit, in which Jimmy had a multimillion-dollar share. However, Howard and Lalo confront Jimmy and Kim at the same time, which leads to Lalo killing Howard to eliminate a witness and traumatizing both Kim and Jimmy. Because of this, Kim breaks up with Jimmy and abandons her lifestyle, believing that their relationship was harming everyone around them. She ultimately moves to Florida to live a mundane, suburban life, and takes responsibility by confessing to her role in destroying Howard before convincing Jimmy to do the same, the latter legally absolving her in the matter.
She was portrayed by Rhea Seehorn. As a teenager, she was portrayed by Katie Beth Hall.

~ Kim revealing her dark side to Jimmy. |
Kim was raised in a tumultuous environment by a neglectful mother and likely an absentee father, but she overcame these beginnings and became a highly intelligent, independent, and skilled negotiator with a promising career in law. During her initial years at HHM, she was very dedicated and adhered to ethical and legal standards, despite the perceived oppressive influence of Howard. She spoke to others, including both her colleagues and clients, in a professional, mature, yet considerate manner, even when she felt unheard. While she was generally composed, patient, and lenient, Kim could be rather assertive, insistent, or even angry when pushed to her limit, and is even seen standing up to and calling out intimidating figures like Lalo.
Kim's personality takes a turn through her relationship with Jimmy. She was initially drawn to Jimmy's kindness and charisma, and her admiration and loyalty towards him gradually led her to embrace and defend his actions, attempting to argue on behalf of his career despite his corner-cutting. She eventually admits to willingly participating in his con-man schemes for the thrill and fun of it, contrasting with Jimmy's perception at various points that he is simply bringing out the worst in her.
Although she initially tried to balance her defense of Jimmy with doing the right thing, even berating him for acting in ways that reflected poorly on her, hurt others, or compromised ethical principles, she eventually sided with him more and more often until leaving HHM. She ultimately transformed from a diligent lawyer to a manipulative businesswoman, and this reaches its peak in her campaign alongside Jimmy to dismantle Howard's reputation.
Despite this, she still retained many of her principles, and their shared distrust of the corporate environment led Kim to embrace some positive traits, such as prioritizing herself and helping the "little guy" through pro-bono work. This felt more rewarding and meaningful to her in comparison to high-level cases, and was also less nerve-wracking. She was consistently conflicted over their actions and, despite trying to give Jimmy the benefit of the doubt, usually tried to push him in the right direction due to her protectiveness and loyalty.
After Howard was inadvertently murdered as a result of their scheme, Kim was overwhelmed by guilt and remorse. She made the decision to sever ties with Jimmy and abandon the deceitful life she had embraced, even as she admits that she was still in love with him. In doing so, she reclaimed the integrity she had once valued and redeemed herself, eventually encouraging Jimmy to do the same during his trial for aiding chemistry teacher-turned-drug lord Walter White.

“ | You think you've lost everything? You have no idea. | „ |
~ Kim Wexler threatening Betsy and Craig Kettleman. |
“ | I know he's not perfect. And I know he cuts corners. But you're the one who made him this way. He idolizes you, he accepts you, he takes care of you. And all he ever wanted was your love and support. But all you've ever done is judge him. You never believed in him, you never wanted him to succeed. And you know what? I feel sorry for him. And I feel sorry for you. | „ |
~ Kim to Chuck on his mistreatment of Jimmy, his brother. |
“ | Yeah, really! If you don't trust your men with your money, you have bigger problems than if you trust Saul Goodman. And for the record, he doesn't lie. Not to me, not to his clients. He's telling you the truth. But next time you have a bunch of money, and no one you can trust, leave him out of it, okay? Try a wire transfer, try a shell company or... you've heard of the Cayman Islands, right? Jesus, get your shit together and stop torturing the one man who went through hell to save your ass. | „ |
~ Kim to Lalo on his mistreatment of Jimmy as his attorney. |
“ | FAIR?! Let's talk about fair! "Hey, let's let Jimmy dig around the fire-damaged wreck where his brother died screaming! And then let's let him pick up a keepsake or two." That is so... so fair! And did I hear you right? You want him to serve on the board of a scholarship committee? A scholarship that Chuck never in a million years would've given to Jimmy. Never! It is just, I mean... Oh what's this too, Howard? What's in this? One last "screw you, little brother" from beyond the grave? Am I really supposed to do this to him? | „ |
~ Kim to Howard on his revelation of Chuck's death to Jimmy. |
