Harlequin, also known as King, the Fairy King, or the Grizzly Sin of Sloth, is one of the main protagonists of the anime/manga/light novel series The Seven Deadly Sins. He is a member of the Seven Deadly Sins, the king of the Fairy Realm, and husband of Diane. His Sacred Treasure is the Spirit Spear Chastiefol, which he uses in conjunction with his inherent power, Disaster.
He is voiced by Jun Fukuyama in the Japanese version of the anime, and by Max Mittelman, voice of Ryuji Sakamoto in the English dub.
Biography[]
King is a member of the Seven Deadly Sins and represents the Grizzly's Sin of Sloth. He is the master of the Black Hound, Oslo. King's real name is Fairy King Harlequin, and as the name suggests, he was the king of the fairies.
700 years prior to the start of the story, King left the Fairy world to locate a group of fairies led by his best friend Helbram; who had left the forest to trade with some humans. However, suffering a grievious injury in the process, he ended up forgetting who he was and his original mission. After being saved by a little gaint girl named Diane, King spent the next 500 years in relative bliss and ignorance in the company of Diane, slowly recovering his memories he lost. It was only when he reunited with his friend again did King learned the old friend was massacring countless humans over the centuries, an act which was practically a declaration of war between the Human and Fairy Clan. For his inaction to stop his friend from doing so all those years, King was sentenced to an imprisonment of over 1000 years. In the midst of it though, he was recruited into the Seven Deadly Sins.
After the incident in which the Sins were framed and forced to flee the country, King attempted to return to the Fairy King's forest only to learn that it had been burned down and that his sister Elaine, who had protected the forest in his stead, had been killed. When he learns that Ban is the supposed perpetrator of this crime, King briefly allies himself with the Holy Knights of Liones.
Appearance[]
King's fairy form resembles a young boy with short brown hair, a high forehead, thin eyebrows, and brownish-orange eyes. He wears a long orange and aqua sweatshirt with a hood and navy blue sleeves, quarter-length navy blue pants, and short boots with large buttons matching his hoodie. He also carries a green leopard pattern pillow which is actually a transformation of his spear Chastiefol. Despite being a fairy, he has no visible wings.
In his human form, he looks almost exactly like his wanted poster; large, fat and more ragged, perhaps hinting at how humans look to fairies. He wears an enlarged version of the clothes he wears as a fairy, though he can freely change the clothes he wears in this form.
Personality[]
King is shown to be rather compassionate. In the past, he would return stuffed animals to the children that Ban often stole.
After reuniting with Ban during his first appearance, he is shown to be an ally to the Holy Knights and is willing to wipe out anyone who gets in his way along with the person he is after. As having the title the Sin of Sloth, he is shown as somewhat lazy, preferring to levitate in most occasions. Furthermore, King is very caring and is willing to help the Seven Deadly Sins in their fight against the Holy Knights. King is also shown to be an emotional person who cries easily. King has trouble admitting his affection for Diane. Although he enjoys being with Meliodas and Diane, he could not bring himself to express it. He cares deeply for his younger sister, Elaine, as shown when he was willing to take revenge for her death by "killing" Ban.
Despite being the Sin of Sloth, he is hard working and serious at times. When King joins the group, he starts to act like the only rational one in the group, and questions his teammates' erratic and slightly insane actions, such as their nonchalance about losing their sacred treasures.
Powers & Abilities[]
As a fairy, King can levitate, and fly, usually on Chastiefol which is in the form of a pillow when hes not using it in battle. Though, he is capable of flight and levitate independently. King also has the ability to change himself between an adult and a kid. This usually exhausts him.
King has also been shown manipulating water. Its not clear at the moment whether this ability has anything to do with his levitation ability or not.
Disaster: An ability that has been shown to fatigue the body of one of his opponents Cain. The ability is also apparantly used in combination with his spear Chastiol to induce transformations, such as turning it into a grizzly bear, or hundreds of small blade like things. This one time, King turned Ban to stone (or patrified him as Ban called it) using the spear.
Weapon: Chestiefol Spear: Kings Sacred Treasure, a weapon with diversed attacks and an unnamed number of transformations, utilizing kings power, disaster.
Pillow: This form is what King keeps the spear mostly in, used as a cushion when he is levitating, sometimes even sitting on it, and others, resting his upperbody on it, even while moving at incredible speeds.
