Biography[]
Before the series[]
Some time ago, Oberon grew up in Athenia alongside his older brother Petrithon. The details of Oberon and Petrithon's childhood relationship isn't very clear, although it's implied the two of them were often frosty among each other. Even though Petrithon was next in line to be ruler, Oberon still took his studies of nature and the land of Athenia very seriously. He had a distrust in humanity due to the fact that they polluted their land and endangered their kind in the past.
It was briefly mentioned that Oberon had gone on an "other walk" in his early teens, while he temporarily went to the other world and lived among humanity for 3 months, posing as one of them.
Some time later, Petrithon would go on his own "other" walk, despite Oberon's wishes. While in the other world, Petrithon would fall in with a mortal woman, and attempt to bring her back to Athenia as his soulmate. Unfortunately, "others"/humans were prohibited from becoming rulers of the kingdom, and as a result, Petrithon would leave Athenia to be with his love. This left Oberon to become the next ruler of Athenia by default, as he later marries Titania and they'd give birth to Astral.
As the years went by, he would teach Astral about the importance of protecting the inhabitants of her homeland, and train her to be the loyal and noble princess the kingdom deserved.
During the Series[]
One day, Astral and her fairy-troll-hybrid cousin Brendoni would return from sneaking off to the other kingdom, only to get caught by Oberon and Titania and forced to explain where they've been. After Brendoni reveals that Astral has a crush on a high school gymnast, Oberon bans Astral from ever returning to the others' realm, as a way to ensure she's prepared to become princess of Athenia, and forces Brendoni to stay in Athenia until he learned to properly watch out for her. However, Astral desperately wanted to have her "other walk" and experience life in the human realm. Oberon reluctantly agrees to this, although he's initially hesitant on letting Astral go, out of fear that she wouldn't return to Athenia. Astral would go to the Quince residence where she'd pose as Devon's British exchange student (with Oswald secretly in tow as her protector), while Oberon and Titania would occasionally check in on Astral from within Athenia to make sure she's settled in and nothing bad's happening with her.
Not too long after Astral got settled into Devon's place, Winston Althazar -- Devon's actual foreign exchange student -- would wind up in Athenia, rather than Devon's house. Winston's nearly eaten alive by Edgar the Giant, which King Oberon interferes with preventing Edgar from harming him, claiming he was Astral's shield until she returned home. Over the next couple of days, Winston was confused over where he was or how things worked in Athenia, which enabled him to get easily manipulated by Brendoni and placed into various harmful pranks.
Eventually, Oberon and Titania realized what Brendoni was doing to Winston, and so they tried to teach Brendoni empathy by giving him a speech about how the "others" needed them and vice versa. But even with their best efforts, Brendoni would continue to mistreat Winston. Versitude suggests sending him into the mortal world as a last resort, which Oberon agrees to hoping that being surrounded by "others" would force him to change.
Afterwards, things settled down a bit in Athenia with Oberon and Titania continuing to attend their normal duties and helping out various inhabitants as the rulers. Later on, Winston would approach the two of them and confess that he had eaten some of the berries Titania vaguely warned him against that were slowly transforming him into a donkey, and Titania used it as a lesson for him and reverses the spell, which would change him back he proves himself worthy. It would take a few days before Winston's able to change back after encountering a young fairy named Peaseblossom and freeing her from some tree vines she was tangled in.
A few days later, Astral discovered Mr. Quince had plans for a construction center in Evermoor Woods, which would potentially destroy the forest and Athenia. She'd head to the forest and warn Oberon and Titania about the impending doom on the woods, but refuse to retreat to Athenia, insisting on staying in the human world to try and protect the kingdom, despite her parents wanting her to return to Athenia. Back in Athenia, Oberon and Titania wanted to plan for the worst, but most of the other realms were too far away aside from Spartania, which had a frosty relationship with the Athenians. Versitude suggested starting a war against the "others", which naturally Oberon and Titania don't want to take part in, as they didn't want to place their kind in danger, placing their faith in Astral to make a difference. Luckily, Astral -- with some help with Morgan and Brendoni -- was able to get into Mr. Quince's workplace and they'd express to the construction crew how essential the woods was. That night, Oberon and Titania stated that she had proven herself to be a leader with her bravery and courage, though Versitude claims their affection of their daughter was blinding her and she was still too young to fight the grave threat, while Titania continued to believe in Astral, Oberon kept faith in Versitude as she was rarely wrong.
Versitude places Winston under arrest for false crimes -- supposedly killing the summerberry bush, and nearly eating a bug (a set-up from Brendoni) -- and sentences him to the Bogs of Nevermore to dig tunnels for the trolls for the rest of his life. Luckily, King Oberon allowed Winston to stand trial as a citizen of Athenia, and make his case. Peaseblossom became his rather inexperienced defense attorney. Despite Versitude's continuing attempts to make Winston look guilty, Peaseblossom would point out the bushes were sick and how Versitude refused to help, to which Oberon would ask Versitude why he wasn't informed earlier. Then Queen Titania manages to find some dying summerberries proving Peaseblossom's point. Winston's allowed by King Oberon to help heal the branches and his cases are lifted, but Versitude responds by telling Oberon his faith in "others" could signal their end.
One day, King Oberon would invite Winston to tea, and he'd bring along Peaseblossom as an accompolice much to Versitude's surprise. Winston would easily get into a king and queen's good graces as he talked about how things were treating him in Athenia, and Peaseblossom were end up pleasing them with her curtsy, politeness and sense of humor. At school, Astral would participate in a game of dodgeball. It was also the first competitive game she had ever played, but it nearly unleashed her inner darkness and corrupt her into being harmful and lethal to her opponents. Oberon and Titania were worried about her being exposed to her dark side too soon and her overall safety.
Even when Astral eventually returns to her senses and calms down, Versitude knew Astral had a dark side, and planned to unleash it upon her permanently. Winston and Peaseblossom overhear her, and realize just how nasty Versitude was. The next day, they try to warn Oberon, but Versitude got aware she's being spied on and intentionally sets up a series of events that would get Winston and Peaseblossom suspicious of her actions (placing a mysterious item in the queen's tea, declaring an intention to overthrow the king) then when they turn out to be false, King Oberon would eventually get fed up with their stories and refuses to listen to them due to his trust in Versitude. But upon Oberon leaving, she reveals to Winston and Peaseblossom that she had planned all this and this was the intention, and with them out of the way and Oberon and Titania refusing to believe them, she was untouchable. That night King Oberon would personality turn up at the Quince residence personally, to confront Mr. Quince/Petrithon after he had revealed his intentions to deliberately bulldoze Athenia. Devon was completely shocked to find out his father's fairy indentity (along with him being Oberon's brother and his real name being Petrithon), and insist to Oberon that he wasn't "one of them", although nobody knew for sure yet. Oberon assumed Devon would try to follow his father footsteps in his plan, to which Astral would defend Devon saying it was unfair to judge him based on his father. Oberon orders to pack their belongs and return to Athenia, to which Astral would refuse, wanting to stay in the human world.
