“ | He who touches it will have whatever he desires granted... That is what you said, is it not, Ganondorf? Gods of the Triforce! Hear that which I desire! Hope! I desire hope for these children! Give them a future! Wash away this ancient land of Hyrule! Let a ray of hope shine on the future of the world!!! And let our destinies finally be fulfilled… Ganondorf! ~ King Daphnes wishing on the Triforce. |
King Daphnes Nohansen Hyrule, also known as the King of Red Lions in his boat form, is the deuteragonist of the 2002 action-adventure game The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.
He is the former King of Hyrule who was sealed beneath the sea after the gods flooded Hyrule. Upon Ganondorf's return, however, the king is awoken and takes the form of a talking boat to guide Link across the Great Sea and train him become a worthy successor to the Hero of Time.
Biography[]
The King of Red Lions first appears when Link was tossed across the Great Sea by the Helmaroc King. He brings Link to Windfall Island where he explains what the hero must do to save his sister Aryll. The King of Red Lions assists Link by letting him sail the boat to find a Goddess Pearl on three different islands in order to obtain the Master Sword.
After Link and Tetra rescue Aryll and other kidnapped girls from Forsaken Fortress, The King of Red Lions takes them to Hyrule Castle where he reveals that his true identity is Daphnes Nohansen Hyrule; king of the legendary land of Hyrule. He also reveals that Tetra is actually Princess Zelda and the evil king Ganondorf has been searching for her so can acquire the Triforce of Wisdom. In order to prevent this, King Daphnes tells Link they must find all the pieces of the Triforce of Courage and re-energize the Master Sword while Zelda remained hidden within Hyrule Castle.
King Daphnes would continue to help Link on his adventure as the King of Red Lions until he reappears in his true form during Link's confrontation with Ganondorf atop Ganon's Tower. He placed his hand on the newly reassembled Triforce and wished for Ganondorf and Hyrule to drown beneath the Great Sea so Link and Zelda can have a future free from their conflict.
