When the New California Republic began expanding into the Mojave Wasteland, Robert House would emerge and began to offer employment and civilization to several tribes in the Mojave, in the need to establish a workforce to restore and renovate the New Vegas Strip into working order. Among those that accepted were the Chairmen, Omertas, and the White Glove Society. These tribals would become rehabilitated and form the Three Families, each having their own respective casino.
However, these three tribes were not the only ones that were given an offer by Mr.House, there have been several tribes House approached that rejected his offer, one such tribe in the outskirts of the Strip were among those that rejected House's offer of reform. A young scavenger of the tribe had unearthed an old world paraphernalia about people who worshipped an ancient, black-coiffed deity of considerable style and singing talent, known as "The King."
The young scavenger who discovered this, He took on the name and appearance of The King for himself, along with a new philosophy of respect and personal freedom. His words awed the rest of the tribe, who also began to call themselves Kings and dress in a style similar to the pre-War King- denim, hair gel, and leather. Later they would adopt a dog named Rex who would become The King's companion.
Once fully formed, the Kings would later claim of what later became Freeside, establishing a semblance of social order and becoming a dominant force fiercely independent from the New California Republic or House rule. However, with the strife in the rest of the Mojave.
