Knuckles the Dread is a major character in the 2022 Netflix series Sonic Prime, based on the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.
He is an alternate version of Knuckles the Echidna and originates in the Shatterverse dimension called "No Place." Dread used to be a fearless brave pirate who desired glory and fame by stealing valuable treasure. When he came across the Devil's Lighthouse, Dread's recklessness and selfishness had caused to lose his old crew. With his old crew gone, Dread stopped being a pirate and mellowed down to party with his new crew to cope with his past failure of being unable to claim the Devil's Lighthouse.

It Takes One to No Place[]
Knuckles the Dread meets Sonic and allows him to be on board on his ship. Sonic at first feels suspicious that Dread is going to harm him, but Dread instead throws him a party. Sonic, Dread, and the latter's crew all have fun partying for the entire night. At the next day, Dread wants to throw another party, but Sonic doesn't want to experience another party.

In the past, Dread used to be a selfish pirate who desired to satisfy his ego through glory and adventuring. In his quest to find the Devil's Lighthouse with his old crew, Dread shows himself to be reckless in his pursuit in finding loot. When seeking the Devil's Lighthouse, Dread disregarded the lives of his crew in his pursuit of his selfish desire to claim the Devil's Lighthouse. His selfishness combined with his recklessness had caused his ship to crash and his old crew to abandon him. Realizing his selfishness, Dread gave up his desire to claim the Devil's Lighthouse in shame and to never feel like a failure again.
With his failures, Dread created a crew that consists of Wails Tails, Batten Rouge, Black Rose, and Big Cat to party with. With his crew, Dread mellowed out and became a nicer person in order to cope with his failures of being unable to claim the Devil's Lighthouse. Any mentions of the Devil's Lighthouse will cause him to lash out on others because it reminds him of his failures. When his old crew attacks his ship, Dread shows himself to be a cowardly person by hiding in a barrel and allowing his old crew to steal his supplies. However, once Sonic cheers him up to go hunting for the Devil's Lighthouse again, Dread loses his cowardly attitude and becomes ready to face his failures again.
In his quest to claim the Devil's Lighthouse again, Dread makes sure to not let his recklessness ruin his quest and makes sure to use Sonic as his pawn to get closer in attaining it. In the battle against Rusty Rose's robots Dread demonstrates his intelligence by using Sea Dogs to fight her robots and bravery to fight her robots head on. While he does help Sonic in claiming the Devil's Lighthouse, Dread is doing it only so he could satisfy his ego and selfishness. When Dread finally claim the Devil's Lighthouse, he goes on to gloat of his victory of wanting to keep it forever and then celebrating when he is out of danger.
