Knuckles the Echidna is a major character in Archie Comics' Sonic the Hedgehog comic book series, specifically serving as the titular main protagonist of the comic series of the same name.
He is the last mobian echidna known to inhabit Sonic's world and the Guardian of both Angel Island and the Master Emerald. While his primary concern is protecting his home from invaders, certain threats, particularly those posed by Dr. Eggman, have been enough to persuade him to leave the island.

Appearance[]
Knuckles is a red anthropomorphic echidna, with a peach-colored muzzle and black nose, a patch of white hair in the shape of a crescent on the chest and purple eyes. It also has seven dreadlock-like spines around the sides and back of its head and a medium-sized, three-crooked tail.
He's wearing red and yellow shoes, each with green cuffs, light gray soles, and a gray plate with sextuple bolts on top and white breeches. With white boxing gloves with two spiked knuckles on each hand.
Personality[]
Knuckles is always very determined to protect Angel Island and Master Emerald from the evil ones. However, he also recognizes the danger that the Emerald Master places in the hands of evil powers and has shown on more than one occasion a willingness to shatter it into fragments to keep it safe.
He also has a good sense of understanding threats, which is why he often works with Sonic, with whom he has a friendship/rivalry relationship.
Powers and Abilities[]
Knuckles is an incredibly strong individual and served as the muscle of Team Sonic; his techniques include the "Spiral Upper," a punch so powerful that his fist catches on fire from the friction and is devastating to anything.
Trivia[]
- As a result of the reboot done in Sonic the Hedgehog #252, Ian Flynn has confirmed that the established history of Knuckles is no longer canon. He has also expressed relief at not having his history being the "Hot Pocket of Destiny".
- Prior to the reboot, the various Sonic Adventure 2 adaptations featured in the comic did not feature Knuckles, despite his fairly prominent role in the story of the game. However, following the reboot, it is assumed that Knuckles' participation was the same as in the actual game.
