~ Komali |
Komali is a minor supporting character who first appears in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. He is the prince who happens to be the son of the Rito Chieftain.
History[]
Komali is the son of the Rito Chieftain and a close friend to Medli. He tends to suffer from low confidence and his grandmother was always there for him whenever she needs him, and she would give him Din's Pearl which he uses to cope with anxiety. His grandmother was also the Medli's teacher, who taught her the basis on him being an attendant and to understand some of Valoo's language and saw Medli's harp as a key of her future destiny. His grandmother would eventually pass away due to unknown circumstances, and it led to Komali losing all of his confidence all over again. Everything goes from bad to worse when the normally gentle and docile Valoo suddenly became violent and unpredictable, which would prevent Komali from approaching him, and he is at the age where he can gain a scale from him to get his adult wings. Unable to handle these events, Komali shuts himself away from the world and doesn't leave his room and refuses to leave his room to visit the Sky Spirit due to his sudden change in behavior.
Link would eventually visit Dragon Roost Island where he learns what was happening on the island. After Link gets the Rito Chieftain's letter from Medli to deliver it to his son as part of the Chieftain's request in hopes of encouraging him, he gives it to Komali who became cold and cynical towards Link and still refuses to see Valoo due to his constant rage and believes that Link is lying when he is told that he can calm down the dragon. He does add that if he can find anyone who can get passed the obstacles on the way to Valoo, then he would agree to listen to him. He is also unwilling to hand over Din's Pearl as it keeps him calm and wouldn't give it to anyone who doesn't accomplish anything.
After Link defeats Gohma, the source of Valoo's anger, Komali can be seen joining his father and Medli as the clouds surrounding the volcano vanished. After Link is teleported back, Medli and Komali join him, where the latter apologizes to Link for mistrusting him. Komali is impressed by Link's courage and feats enough for him to give him Din's Pearl as it would allow him to be more independent before leaving for Dragon Roost Cavern to get his scale from Valoo.
Later, Quill and an adult Komali arrive at a convenient time when Ganondorf was about to slay Link and Tetra. Komali swipes Tetra from Ganondorf's grasp and Quill takes Link off the floor and fly away as Valoo confronts him and burns down the ship sitting at the top of the fortress, though Ganondorf managed to escape with minimal harm. As Link worries over Tetra's unconscious state, Quill assures him that she is still alive, and Komali tells him that Aryll managed to safely escape the Forsaken Fortress with the pirates so he doesn't have to worry about her anymore. He departs with Quill and Valoo as the King of Red Lions, Link, and Tetra handle something else. Komali is now wearing different attire than the white clothes.
After Medli awakens as the Sage of Earth, Komali can be seen soaring over the island and Medli hopes that he will remember her as a simple attendant. When Komali lands at the cliff where Medli and Link were, he saw that Medli had already gone with Link. After the Earth Temple is completed, Link can visit Komali where he is seen holding a flower that he picked for Medli and intended to show it to her, but he was disappointed to see that she had already gone. The flower wilts the next day, which saddens him as he wanted to see the smile on her face when she saw it, implying that he has a crush on her.
Komali can be seen one last time when Link and Tetra are floating on the water after Hyrule completely floods. The Rito Prince flies towards them to greet them just as Tetra's ship sails in.
