The killing and destruction done by my people have always revulsed me.
~ Konom

Konom was a Klingon male introduced in the Star Trek comic The Wormhole Connection.

Konom was raised by his family to be the best possible Klingon. As a young man he became skilled in Klin zha, a game similar to chess but played with real people and real weapons. A pacifist, Konom found combat and fighting stimulating on an intellectual level, he was disgusted with the never ending wars his people engaged in. Balking during an attack and trying to run away he was caught by his superior officer, who gave Konom the choice between immediate execution and killing an innocent Christophian child. Konom chose the latter, an act that shamed him for many years.

He was assigned to a Klingon station in Federation space that was cloaked by a wormhole. Encountering then Admiral James T. Kirk and Ensign Nancy Bryce of the USS Enterprise he explained how disgusted he was by his people's warlike behavior and that the wormhole station his people had created could cause the deaths of millions. Helping Kirk destroy the station, Konom defected to the United Federation of Planets. With the help of former Starfleet JAG officer Areel Shaw they were able to obtain residency for Konom within the Federation, and Kirk commissioned the Klingon into Starfleet with the honorary rank of Ensign.

As an Ensign, Konom served as a bridge officer on the Enterprise. While he was an experienced helm officer, he did not often take the helm but instead manned other stations as needed. Despite facing bigotry from some crew, Konom became a valued officer and eventually transferred to the Enterprise-A after the recently demoted Captain Kirk was given command of that ship.

Falling in love with Bryce, the pair eventually married and adopted the Klingon outcast Bernie. Bernie would eventually take the name Konom to honor both Konom and Bryce, and after being educated in the Federation became one of the Klingon Empire's most revered ambassadors. In the mid 24th century, Worf, son of Mogh would follow in Konom's footsteps by joining Starfleet and serving on the Enterprise-D.
