Nagumo! Duel me! No weapons! If I win, you have to promise to never get near Kaori again! And to release all those poor girls you’re holding captive!
~ Kouki's delusions before his first defeat by Hajime.

Kouki Amanogawa, falsely known as the Hero, is a major character in the web-turned-light novel, manga and anime franchise Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest.

He is one of Hajime Nagumo's classmates (but not friends) as well as the self-proclaimed rival of Hajime (after replacing Daisuke Hiyama who was killed by Nagumo himself for what he did to Kaori (Kouki's childhood friend and Hajime's middle school lover) due to his hatred towards Nagumo for not only did his powers are superior than him but also getting the attentions of the most beautiful girls (including Kouki's childhood friends, Kaori Shirasaki and Shizuku Yaegashi).

After the demons' invasion onto the Heiligh Kingdom and facing an undeniable reality of due to his naivete expectation for allowing his classmates of betraying him and everyone else (such as Eri and the now deceased Hiyama), Kouki (along Ryutarou Sakagami, Suzu Taniguchi, and Shizuku Yaegashi) travels with Hajime and his party to clear the remaining labyrinths and kill Ehit. While corrupted by his doppelganger's temptation, he betrayed Nagumo when he foolishly attempted to kill him and take his lovers to "save the world" in Ehit's behalf but only to be easily defeated by Hajime once more. Unlike the others, He failed his trial for "Age of Gods" Magic leaving Kouki as the weakest due to his delusional "justice". After his defeat by Hajime, Kouki was discarded by Ehit for being weak. Amanogawa later rejoined Hajime and his allies to kill Ehit.

He is voiced by Tetsuya Kakihara in the Japanese version of the anime, and by Ricco Fajardo in the English version of the anime.

Personality[]

Kouki is kind and fair, but having a weak sense of justice. All these factors together with his handsome appearance, make the vast majority of people see him as a perfect man. But in reality, Kouki is an extremely flawed man with countless flaws. Although he is not intentionally a bad person, he is also by no means a decent person.

He is a completely arrogant, delusional, selfish, dimwitted, idiotic, persistent, hypocritical and annoying boy even toward his childhood friends and classmates as well to Hajime and his lovers, due to his naivety and his lack of resolves. Ignorantly thinking he is never wrong, he misinterprets any situation to suit his own point of view. He is considered to be an immature and a loudmouthed-moron when annoying others. Kouki foolishly believes of his self-righteousness to always oblige of helping and protecting each other which are childish and ridiculous. Unfortunately, this obligation has tremendous weaknesses which does allow other classmates to betray him for reasons, mostly his annoyingly ideals such as the intelligent, Eri Nakamura and the psychotic idiot, Daisuke Hiyama, to betray him and the party without even noticing. Worst of all, he enforces his own justice which is his greatest weakness by sparing his enemies, only for them to defeat Kouki due to enemies having no feelings for him or anyone. Even worse, Kouki's weaknesses has made a fool of himself due to his lacks of resolves and low-intelligence.

He believes he will give Hajime's harem better treatment if they leave Hajime, but only for them to getting extremely annoyed and disgusted by his ignorance and caused Hajime's step-daughter, Myu to cry by Kouki. After Hajime's lovers rejected him for his ignorance, Kouki foolishly challenge Hajime into an unarmed duel to claim his lovers by force only to be easily defeated by him and ended such a worthless duel. The reason of Hajime why he didn't tell Kouki that Ehit's true nature is an evil "God", it is due to Kouki's naivety and ridiculous habits of "justice".

Kouki dislikes Hajime when he got a lot attractions from Kouki's childhood friends, Kaori Shirasaki, Shizuku Yaegashi and later women who have an exceptional prowess and capacity of beauty, which par both to Kaori and Shizuku (such as Yue, Shea Haulia and Tio Klarus) for Kouki losing all of his attractions from girls even in Tortus and returned back to Japan. When Kouki was corrupted by his trial doppelganger, he stubbornly believed that they were being "brainwashed" by Hajime (which he doesn't have that ability). Kouki is too stupid of challenging Hajime to think he can defeat him, failing again in his attempt to take Hajime's lovers, but only to be humiliated by Hajime by tossing him into a pitfall with teargases during his first defeat in an unarmed duel by Hajime without efforts. According to Shizuku, Kouki is more delusional as he doesn't know anything about Hajime or rather refused to known about Hajime of what he is or was even his lovers who are happy for Hajime. He doesn't take Hajime's absolute warning seriously into believing he is stronger than Hajime and fit to be a suitable to lover to Hajime's companions despite of Hajime's monstrous strength and ruthlessness. While his attempted to prove himself to be better than Hajime, things gotten worse for Kouki as he failed to clear every single labyrinths and Hajime cleared all of labyrinths with ease as a result of Kouki losing to Hajime in both strength and willpower. Kouki is completely gutless when Hajime killed the traitor, Daisuke Hiyama. After he learned of Ehit's evil nature, Kouki furiously asked Hajime why didn't he telling him and the party of Ehit's cruelty early only for Hajime to claim he won't believe him and get mad at him. It was Kouki's delusional idealism is at fault of always of his classmates help and protect each other which are the very weaknesses to enable other classmates' possibilities for betrayals such as both Eri Nakamura and Daisuke Hiyama to betrayed him without even noticing. He became silent and disappointed when Hajime gives him chances but kept his warning that he will meet the same fate as Hiyama did. When Kouki's corrupted by his doppelganger, he weakly attempted to kill Hajime and claim his lovers to force him to join him and "save the world" on behalf of Ehit, only to be overpowered by Hajime once again when his defensive abilities were broken through with just one kick and continually thrashed him. He has a problem with killing, believing it was wrong when Hajime killed the demon woman, Cattleya which is one of Kouki's greatest weaknesses. He believed that people would say same thing but only for Hajime claimed that everyone would say it's kill or be killed in Tortus. When he realized how Hajime was mutated as the reason Kouki could never match up to his classmate, he felt sympathy.

Despite being regarded as "mature" by others, Kouki has rather childish ideals and views towards various matters in the world;Kouki believes that what most people think is right is absolute right, when in reality, things are much crueler and darker. Kouki also doesn't properly understand the concepts of war and love, when he was summoned to Tortus, Kouki was so ignorantly excited to be a "World-Savior Hero", that he didn't consider the fact that they would fight to kill other sentient living beings. Kouki also thought his friendship with Kaori and Shizuku was "love", but it was just friendship between childhood friends. Kouki was so ignorant, he never noticed Kaori's feelings for Hajime and thought she only spoke to him out of pity. Furthermore, it is very easy to see that in reality, what Kouki feels for Kaori and Shizuku seems to be the same as Daisuke Hiyama feels for Kaori and the same as Eri Nakamura feels for him, that is, a feeling of pure lust and possessiveness and not real, genuine love. He does not consider Kaori and Shizuku's true feelings and proclaims that they "belong" to him, what's not real love, because real love just means wanting the happiness of the person you love, even if it's with someone else.

Despite being regarded as the class leader, Kouki lacks the qualities needed to lead anyone. His fragile leadership only put himself and his peers on the brink of death countless times and caused them to be betrayed without even realizing it by Shimizu, Eri and Hiyama due to his empty ideas, weak determination and delusions. Kouki also doesn't take his own colleagues' feelings into consideration, he made the decision to fight in the war without even thinking about the consequences, this led the others to also choose to fight because they admired him, when he was so blinded by being a "Hero", who didn't even realize that they would fight to kill and that there was no guarantee that everyone could actually make it back to alive home. His ignorance was what almost completely destroyed his friendship with Kaori and Shizuku, when he proclaimed that he would have had their attention if he had fallen into the abyss instead of Hajime, turned out to be the final straw for Kaori who slapped him in the face for not considering how much emotional pain that event caused her.

Kouki was once popular to girls but he desired to be in romance and later marry his two childhood friends, Shizuku and Kaori which makes him a pervert. Despite of being his childhood friends, Kouki became disappointed when Kaori and Shizuku are not interested to be in romance with him or to marry him as they only wanted to be just friends due to their romance feelings of wanted to marry Hajime instead. Not only his obsession for Kaori and Shizuku, but also Yue, Shea and Tio who became Hajime's lovers. He let his delusional pride, jealousy and his empty idealism combined to his perverted nature of believing Hajime mistreated them and offer them to leave Hajime and join him for "better" treatment, which greatly annoyed and disgusted them. However, due to Hajime's new appearance, Kouki got extremely jealous and lost all attractions from girls. Following his defeat by Hajime yet again, Kouki brags if it would've been him who fell into the abyss, he would get Kaori and Shizuku's affection only to get slapped in the face by Kaori and yelled at him to stop doing such hurtful things, which saddened and silenced him for his insolence. Despite of losing all of his affections and fame from girls, Kouki managed to find romance when he got kissed by the former queen, Moana and the former goddess.

After the story, Kouki simply abandoned his misguides of justice and all of his confidences. He is disappointed when his ideals nearly broke his friendship for with both Kaori and Shizuku. He no longer hesitate towards his enemies.

Relationship[]

Hajime Nagumo[]

It’s all because of you! If you weren’t here, everything would be perfect! Kaori and Shizuku would have been mine! I would have saved the world! But you ruined everything! Even though you’re a murderer, even though you abandon people without a second thought, how come everyone likes YOU!? It doesn’t make sense!
~ Kouki's ignorance of blaming Hajime when failed of hitting Hajime.

Kouki holds a dislikes on Hajime for getting Kaori, Shizuku and later Yue, Shea and Tio in love with him. In turn, Hajime also dislikes Kouki of his empty ideals and delusional prides as they are stupid and called Kouki an idiot. After Hajime fall, Kouki easily accept his "death".

However, when Hajime is still alive but turned into a murderous monster, he is shocked and condemned Hajime of not only did he refuse to take orders from him when murdering Cattleya but told him that he will kill him even if they were classmates. Kouki was the only one who doesn't take Hajime's warning seriously as he persistently think he is stronger than him. However, this only worsens when Kouki was unable to clear the labyrinths and Hajime easily cleared all of them without a source of difficulty. When challenging Hajime of his attempt to take his lovers in an unarmed duel, Hajime defeated Kouki so easily and drop him into the pit (using his Synergist abilities to manipulate the ground with only a tap from his toe) filled with teargasses to humiliate Kouki plus ending such a pointless duel.

During the demon invasion, Kouki is shown speechless of how Hajime easily defeated Eri's army, killed Hiyama and destroyed the demon army where proven that not only Hajime has completely surpass Kouki by power alone, but also harbored a sheer ruthlessness and sadisms. Even though Hajime save Kaori's live after killing Hiyama, Kouki (unlike his classmates) doesn't shown any gratitude to Hajime because of his delusions and jealousy.

After Ehit's malice towards humans & Eri's and Hiyama's betrayals, Kouki tried to blamed Hajime for not telling him about the false god. As for Hajime, he tells him even if he told him, he wouldn't believe and get mad at him instead as Hajime believe it was Kouki's empty idealism and delusional pride at fault, thanks to his naivete expectation of classmates are naturally obliged of helping and protecting each other which are the very weaknesses enable for the intelligent, Eri and the traitorous idiot, Hiyama to betray him without even noticing. When Hajime still refuse to rejoin his classmates to suit Amanogawa's delusions, he gives him another chance due to Shizuku, Suzu and Ryutarou's begging but if he continuing enforcing his delusional idealism again, Hajime will not be their forgiving and will kill Kouki as he killed Hiyama. Kouki still condemned Hajime of murdering Hiyama even though he is a traitor and severely wounded Kaori.

When Hajime is continually to travel to clear the last remaining Labyrinths, Kouki (along with Suzu, Shizuku and Ryutarou) travelled with Hajime. When Hajime ignored helping to save the world and kill Ehit, Kouki questioned why doesn't he use his powers for "justice" only for Hajime to criticized Kouki that his self-righteousness is too childish and ridiculous as he told Kouki that he doesn't care about his so-called "justice" but warned him for the last time if he continually enforce his delusions to him, Hajime will give Kouki a miserable death similar to Hiyama's death.

Due to Hajime's newly appearance, Kouki holds an immense jealousy toward the latter for having harem ability of getting girls to love him, while Kouki on the other hand, began to lose his popularity from girls which eventually turned out to be true causing him to consider Hajime as his rival. But for Hajime however, doesn't view Kouki as a rival, but rather a dimwitted and incompetent weakling who stood no chance against him due to his childishly ideals.

When Hajime opens to enhance his classmates' weapons, Kouki had his armor and sword enhance but little did Kouki know, Hajime has only weakened Kouki's equipment instead of strengthen them because his sword cannot be enhance when having too much adjustments. Hajime told him to stop enforcing his delusions as well the reason he never can defeat him because of his failures. After freeing the haulia tribe, Hajime told Kouki that he doesn't care about his "justice" or what was right and wrong. Hajime kept his warning to Kouki for the last time if he continue his ideals furthermore, he will kill him just like Hiyama. With Hajime's newly appearance, Kouki is jealous as many girls are attractive to Hajime while Kouki began to lose all of his attractions from girls. When witness Hajime carries Shizuku, Kouki merge with his doppelganger foolishly in his attempt to kill Hajime and make his lovers to join him to "save the world" on behalf of Ehit. Kouki furiously blamed Hajime when he is alive, he "destroyed" all of his heroisms and only chance of getting in love with Kaori and Shizuku when continue on attacking Hajime but unable to touch him even when using his strongest attack only for Hajime to easily dodge all of Kouki's attacks. However, Hajime has finally lost his patience and confirmed Kouki has already lost to him, he easily defeat Kouki once again by shooting both of Kouki's kneecaps and beating him up but spared due to Kaori and Shizuku's sake by punching Kouki unconscious. Hajime eventually given Kouki another chance to help him against Ehit, but warned for the last time that is if he dares betray him or doing such stupid things like this again, Amanogawa will die in a painful death similar to Hiyama's demise.

Kaori Shirasaki[]

Kouki is Kaori's childhood friend since elementary school. Kouki is an idiot even Kaori goes annoyed by his idealism and prides but she still considered him as a friend. However, Kaori is not interested to be in romance with Kouki as she is in love with Hajime since middle school even Kouki didn't know. After Kaori joined Hajime, Kouki became dense of tried to "convince" Kaori to leave Hajime because being his childhood friend as for Kaori however, refused to leave Hajime due to her love for him and Kouki hurting her feelings. When Kaori was killed by Hiyama, Kouki holds hostility at Hiyama for temporarily killing his childhood friend. Unlike Shizuku and Ryutarou, Kouki shown no gratitude for Hajime even though he revived Kaori. As Kouki bragged if he would've fall instead of Hajime, Kaori slapped him to the face and yelled at him to stop doing such hurtful things which sadden and silent Kouki after his yet another easily defeat by Hajime.

Shizuku Yaegashi[]

Kouki is Shizuku's childhood friend since elementary school. Shizuku is usually annoyed by Kouki's delusional pride and empty idealism even they were once student in her family's Dojo but still considered him a friend. However, Shizuku is not interest to be in romance with Kouki due to her feelings for Hajime. When Kouki believes of his foolishness about Hajime, Shizuku countered it that Kouki doesn't know a single thing about Hajime of who he is or was and his companions are always happy and told him that he is the only one ignore reality and convinced himself of believing Hajime is a demon who doesn't deserve Kaori. After his yet again ease defeat by Hajime, Shizuku angrily told Kouki that she is in love with Hajime and wanted to be together with him which sadden and silent Kouki.

Ryutarou Sakagami[]

Kouki has been best friends with Ryutarou since elementary school. They have differences. Kouki is an airhead of his delusional pride and empty ideals while Ryutarou is a level head who has no prides or ideals. After Hajime's survival, Kouki dislikes Hajime for getting a lot of attraction for girls, while Ryutarou shown respects for Hajime due to his admiration for military army when considered Hajime as a pupil of his idol, Gunnery Sergeant Hartman. While Hajime killed Hiyama, Kouki condemned Hajime despite Hiyama is a traitor but for Ryutarou doesn't due to his bitter memories of his hatred toward Hiyama after killed Kaori just like the rest of his classmates. Ryutarou shown his jealous even a little of Kouki's once attraction from girls until they are more attractive to Hajime, Kouki holds jealously toward Hajime while Ryutarou has no jealously Hajime at all due to not wanted to be in his bad side. Ryutarou considered him to be weak than Kouki but more weaker than Hajime seeing their conflict and Ryutarou deemed himself to be a worthless sidekick.

Hajime's harem[]

Aside of his perverted obsession for Kaori and Shizuku, Kouki is also obsessed for Hajime's lovers (Yue, Shea Haulia and Tio Klarus) due to their captivating and exceptionally beauty which par to both Kaori and Shizuku. His delusional and perverted thoughts believe that Hajime has mistreated them and offer them to leave Hajime and join him for "better" treatment. For Hajime's lovers, however, were annoyed by his delusional and disgusted by his rudeness as they rejected his idiotic offer immediately. Their loves and devotions for Hajime is the reason of Kouki's jealously. Kouki only convinced himself to be a more suitable lover for them than Hajime. When he was corrupted, Kouki stupidly thinks Hajime has "brainwashed" his harems to become his lovers and believe he will take them with force by killing Hajime only for him to be easily defeated by Hajime once again. When his second ease defeat, Yue and Shea were attempting to kill Kouki for attacking Hajime but only for Hajime to order them to stand down.

Enemies[]

Daisuke Hiyama[]

Despite Kouki has once trust on Hiyama, Kouki has hostility toward Hiyama of scaring Kaori. Kouki was easily manipulated by Hiyama's lies. However, Hiyama's fears for Hajime has became worse when he easily defeat Kouki. After Hiyama killed Kaori, Kouki holds a hatred toward the traitor. Kouki shown in displeasure when Hajime murdered Hiyama. Out of all of Hajime's classmates who held a bitter memories of their hatred toward the traitorous fool, Hiyama, Kouki was the only one who condemned Hajime for murdering Hiyama despite the latter was a traitor.

Eri Nakamura[]

Kouki once save Eri's life from committed suicide after she was abused by both her mother and stepfather who are later imprisoned. Eri has attraction toward Kouki as she attempt to have him for herself even to kill her female classmates such as Kaori and Shizuku. Kouki shown displeasure when Eri attempted to make Kaori as an undead slave for Hiyama until it was foiled when Hajime arrived.

Ehit[]

Ehit viewed Kouki as his precious pawn as he chosen him as a "hero" due to his delusional idealism and prides just to suit Ehit's purposes. He viewed him as a maintenance for his "game of death". However, when Aiko and Liliana revealed of Ehit to be an evil "god", Kouki is shocked when learned that he was actually a pawn to Ehit's game and forsakes his respects and wanted to kill the false god. He tried to blame Hajime for not telling him the truth about Ehit only be told by the latter that it's his own naivety was the cause. When corrupted by his doppelganger for a pathetic measly power up, Kouki is willing to fulfill as Ehit's "chosen hero" by killing Hajime and take his lovers by force, to "save the world" only to be easily defeated by Hajime yet again. Following his second ease defeat, Ehit now deemed Kouki to be useless and too weak for any uses in an upcoming final battle against Hajime but has only found a use for him by manipulating his newly servant, Eri of giving Kouki to her as a "prize" for serving him.

Abilities And Powers[]

  • Superhuman Strength: Kouki possessed enhanced physical abilities. He only surpass by Ryutarou Sakagami strength and Shizuku Yaegashi by speed. However, his strength is 12 times weaker than the monstrous Hajime Nagumo after got easily defeated by the latter twice and even weaker than Hajime's powerful lovers even Ehit now considered him useless as he is too weak.
  • Superhuman Speed: Kouki possessed speed but sluggish to Hajime's demonic speed as he cannot caught up to him. However, when his kneecaps were shot by Hajime, Kouki cannot move his legs regularly and leaving himself defenseless.
  • Superhuman Durability: Kouki possessed durability to withstand attacks. He was able to withstand both Ryutarou and Shizuku's attacks. However, his durability could not withstand Hajime's powerful kick when the latter bypassed and destroyed Kouki's defenses. His kneecaps weren't durable when Hajime shot both of Kouki's kneecaps.

Weaknesses[]

Despite being originally blessed as the "Strongest Hero" and having several powerful abilities, Kouki is arguably one of the weakest characters in the entire franchise. Kouki has several weaknesses that make him a predictable, easy, and manipulable opponent due to his delusional sense of "justice" and for your empty ideals:

  • Merciful/Prides: His main weaknesses. Considering that what people consider right to be absolute, Kouki is unable to kill sentient enemies, a fatal mistake, allowing him to be easily defeated. According to Hajime, this is also the main reason why Kouki always loses everything at the most important times.
  • Damaged Kneecap: Kouki cannot move when his kneecaps were damaged leaving himself defenseless after gotten shot by Hajime.
  • Overload: After using "Limit Break - Overload", the side-effects of this power has severely damaged his body and became heavily fatigue.
  • Recklessness: Kouki's second main weakness. Kouki foolishly charge up to his enemies without even thinking only gotten himself defeated. When he challenged Hajime, he literally underestimated Nagumo when the latter caused him to fall into a pitfall and gotten easily defeated by tear gas grenades. On his second challenge with Hajime (while merged with his doppelganger), he still did another reckless mistake to charge up to Hajime only the latter easily dodged his puny attacks and easily thrashed after he kicked Kouki and bypassed his defensive abilities when sending the so-called "hero" into a frozen wall.
  • Manipulation: Due to his weak mind and delusions, Kouki is easier to be manipulated by anyone. Reason of Ehit blessed as the strongest due to his idiotic of justice. He was easily manipulated by Hiyama's "accident" of fire at Hajime (before he learning it wasn't an accident by Hajime's enlightenment). He was easily manipulated by Eri's "shy" personality just so she used his weaknesses towards him. In his doppelganger's temptation, Kouki was easily to be foolish when he was corrupted by his own doppelganger's deceptions of Hajime "brainwashed" his harem and Shizuku to become his lovers and condemned Hajime for killing Hiyama despite the latter was a traitor.
  • Idealism: His idealism is one of Kouki's greatest weaknesses when his empty idealism of his classmates always help and protecting each other which are the very weaknesses for other classmates' possibility for betrayals such as the intelligent, Eri and the traitorous idiot, Hiyama to betrayed him without even noticing. Even Hajime correctly stated Kouki's ideals are nothing but childish and ridiculous delusions which always lead Kouki to his own failures and his defeats even when defeated twice by Hajime easily.
  • Low Intelligence: Despite his academic grades are high marks, Kouki is a dimwit lacked of emotional quotience (EQ) due to his delusion habits of childish idealism and self-righteousness of the so-called "justice". He fights on without even thinking which makes him extremely reckless. Due to his jealously on Hajime, Kouki foolishly believed Hajime had "mistreated" his harem and offered them to leave Hajime and join him for "better treatment" which only disgusted them by his ignorance and refused his idiotic offer as well. Yue insulted him for his self-righteous ignorance when Hajime has never mistreat them. While persistently believed he is stronger than Hajime due to being blessed as a "Hero", Kouki foolishly challenged Hajime into an unarmed duel for his harem only for Hajime defeated and humiliated Kouki very easily to ended such a pointless duel. Due to his naivety and stupidity, he would get mad at Hajime and won't believe him that Ehit was actually an evil false god who manipulated humanity and protecting humans from Garland was just a setup by Ehit, which is the reason Hajime decided to not tell Kouki for his ignorance. When he was possessed by his doppelganger, Kouki was enforcing these delusions towards Hajime and his lovers, then he foolishly believed Hajime has "brainwashed" his harem and Shizuku to become his lovers (which he never did such a thing) and attempted to kill Hajime and claim his harem to join him to "save the world" on behalf of Ehit only to be easily defeated by Hajime yet again. His delusions almost broke his friendship with Kaori and Shizuku due to him hurting their feelings as a result of Kaori slapping Kouki to the face.
  • Betrayals: According to Hajime Nagumo, Kouki's greatest weakness of all is getting himself betrayed by those who were under his commands eventually because of his delusional and childish ideals that annoys people. Kouki was unknowingly betrayed by Yukitoshi Shimizu when he joined with the demons of Garland before he was killed by Nagumo. Eri Nakamura and Daisuke Hiyama betrayed Kouki when they attempted to get what they've desired but only to be foiled by Hajime as far as for Eri retreated to Garland, while Hiyama on the other hand, was killed by Hajime. After his ease defeat by Nagumo again, Kouki was also betrayed by Ehit when he has no longer any use of his pawn to him after Amanogawa has failed him for the last time.

Trivia[]

  • Kouki is the only known character that failed to obtain magic from the "Age of Gods". Whilst the rest of his classmates succeeded, Kouki failed to defeat his trial's doppelganger on two seperate occassions, due to his naivety, delusional attitude and sense of justice.
  • At the start of the series, Kouki was the strongest of Ehit's summoned heroes. By the end of the series however, he was the weakest surviving character. Once again, this was due to his naivety, lack of resolve and general incompetence.
  • Although a protagonist, Kouki is generally despised by fans of Arifureta, with some even considering him to be a villain, rather than a hero.
  • Arifureta fans have noted several similarities between Kouki and the three heroes from the Rising of the Shield Hero franchise, Motoyasu Kitamura, Ren Amaki and Itsuki Kawasumi.
    • Of the three, Kouki is most similar to Motoyasu. Both of them are arrogant, ignorant, short-sighted, incompetent and hypocritical fools, who are convinced that they are always in the right. The pair oppose their series protagonists, Hajime and Naofumi respectfully, whilst aiding the series villains. Kouki worked alongside Eri Nakamura, Daisuke Hiyama and Ishtar Langbard, whilst Motoyasu originally helped Malty, King Aultcray and Pope Balmus. Both men would frequently attack the heroes without provocation, due to their false beliefs about how the heroes treated their companions and their own biased assessment about the protagonists. Each of these attacks ended in their own defeat and humiliation.
    • Itsuki and Kouki are both justice driven warriors, who both believe themselves to be stronger than they actually are. Like Motoyasu, they are incapable of even considering themselves to be in the wrong.
    • Aside from wielding a sword as their primary weapon, Ren and Kouki are both extremely arrogant. However, Ren is slightly more reasonable and less delusional than Kouki and recognizes his mistakes and regrets them, while Kouki is so delusional that he blames others for his mistakes.
    • Also, like these three, Kouki has a completely weak fighting style, he just tries to overwhelm his opponents with powerful attacks, without using any kind of real tactics. While initially working against weaker opponents, this method of fighting puts them at a huge disadvantage against really powerful opponents and are unable to last long in the fight, being quickly and easily overcome without any effort.
