I mean, about the kind of people I would meet... And that the further I'd go, the less people were... good? So, here's what my take on this is now, brathuka... I just wasn't lucky! And now, with you and the others here, I figure I just hit a jackpot with so many good people together! Take Duke for one... He keeps boasting about how he's going to shoot enemies up... But in fact, when you two were at that bridge, he didn't kill the cultists, didn't even shoot that Silantius, and that is a shot I'd take in a heartbeat... So, what does that make him? A kind guy, that's what! Yeah... Or Damir... Visiting his homeland was his dream! I thought, he'd just stay there especially since we took that Baron bastard down, but no, Damir still went with us! He couldn't just leave his friends, that's the calibre of a man he is! Alyosha, too... I thought, he was kinda rudderless... But he found the love of his life, imagine that! And did he stay with her? No, he cares for you and Anna enough to leave the girl and come with us... to Siberia! It's going to be a while before he sees his Olga again... So, here's the main point... Brathuka, if you and Colonel have people like this coming with you, this means our cause is right, and we can take anything on, don't it? Haha! Yeah...
~ One of Krest's most famous dialogues in Metro Exodus.

Krest is a major character in the video game Metro Exodus. He is a runaway mechanic originally hailing from Kaduy in Vologda Oblast, Russia. Prior to the events of the game, he later comes into conflict with the technophobic cult known as the Church of the Water Tsar, which is led by Silantius, in Volga, forcing him to be on the run.

He is later recruited by the Aurora Crew's leader Miller as one of the mechanics, who works closely with Andrei Ivanovich Yermak, the locomotive's chief mechanic. He is the archenemy of Silantius.

Krest is voiced by Mark Ivanir.

Background[]

Past[]

Krest is an engineer or mechanic who has had an interesting life and a tumultuous history.

Krest grew up in the little village of Kaduy before the war. Kaduy was mostly spared when the bombs fell. He was, nevertheless, aware of the approaching nuclear winter. He acted fast, repairing an old vehicle and moving south. After surviving a few winters alone, Krest realised that surviving alone was impossible, so he teamed up with a variety of personalities and groups.

At one time, Krest journeyed as far as Astrakhan, where the winters were significantly milder than in Kaduy. Bandits in the region, on the other hand, have been seizing and selling people fleeing the cold and transporting them as slaves further south. Krest had a brief run-in with them, but managed to get away.

Metro Exodus[]

Krest eventually tracked down the Aurora's train and began bartering goods with them. To blend in, he even pretended to be a bandit. He ultimately abandoned the fake character and moved east, where he was apprehended by Silantius and the Fanatics from a cult known as the Church of the Water Tsar, whose cultists significantly abhor all forms of technology.

Krest landed on the Volga River several years before the Aurora. Unfortunately, because of his love of technology, he was immediately hounded by the Fanatics. His railcar was taken away by the cult, and he was forced to flee.

Krest established many outposts where he could take refuge and rapidly flee if the cult tracked him down. Katya and Nastya, who were being held hostage by the cult, became friends with him. He eventually established his headquarters on top of a massive crane, secure from both Fanatics and mutants.

Colonel Miller and Katya talk about Krest, after the Aurora crew Katya and her daughter. Miller decided to recruit the engineer when the train engine was damaged after it ran over a cultist barrier. He dispatched Artyom, who arrived at the crane and met Krest after battling his way through the dockyard's humanimals. Krest accepted his offer and travelled alone to the Aurora, where he joined the crew and became one of them.

Trivia[]

  • Krest carries two Makarov handguns when he is not wearing his jacket, as seen in "The Caspian," however he is never seen utilising them in combat.
  • In the game's Russian dub Krest has a thick, almost stereotypical North Russian accent, which makes sense given that he is from the country's northern regions. In the English dub, when his accent is less noticeable, this quality is missing.
