~ Krypto realizing his mistakes.

Krypto is the main protagonist of the 2022 Warner Bros. animated film DC League of Super-Pets.

He is voiced by Dwyane Johnson, who also portrayed Luke Hobbs in the Fast & Furious films, Mathayus the Scorpion King in The Mummy Returns and the first The Scorpion King film, Beck in The Rundown, Joe Kingman in The Gameplan, Derek Thompson in The Tooth Fairy, Captain Chuck T. Baker in Planet 51, Roadblock in G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Hank Parsons in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, Hercules in the titular 2014 film, Ray Gaines in San Andreas, Maui in Moana, Spencer Gilpin/Dr. Smolder Bravestone in the Jumanji films, and Davis Okoye in Rampage.

Appearance

He is a white Labrador Retriever with a gold collar on his neck that has a button he can press to transform into his superhero form that has the Superman symbol on his collar and a red cape also with the Superman symbol on it. As Bark Kent, he wears glasses.

Personality

Krypto has a sunny disposition like his owner. He is very loyal to Superman, but when he starts dating Krypto get jealous. He completely clueless on how to act like a normal dog such as mimicking his owner's disguise. Due to being with just Superman, he used to be antisocial.

Krypto's bond with Superman was strong even when they were babies, as he jumped into Kal-El's space pod and was requested by Jor-El to watch over his son. Ever since, Krypto has been faithful and at Superman's side, believing that, as best friends, they needed no one else and that nothing and no one would ever come between them.

However, as Clark Kent was falling in love with Lois Lane (and due to some discouraging words from some other dogs), Krypto became increasingly jealous and possessive of Superman, failing to consider his owner's feelings and desires.

Meeting the Shelter Pets and findingthey had gained their own superpowers, Krypto cajoled them into helping him rescue Superman and the rest of the Justice League, only to fail miserably. After hearing from Ace how he was punished for a good deed, he was surprised that Ace stood by what he did and told Krypto something he had failed to understand or consider before, that dogs love unconditionally.

Working with his new friends to save Superman, the LEague, and stop the bad guys, Krypto was willing to sacrifice himself for them, but was saved by Ace, and together they started their own team, the League of Super Pets, and Krypto gave Superman his blessing in proposing to Lois, understanding now that there was love for all of them to share together.

Origin

Krypto's beginning storyline seems to follow the same storyline of Superman. Krypto was a dog from the planet Krypton. Before his home planet, Krypton, explodes, Superman's parents believed that he would need a guide and friend on whatever world he landed on and thus sent Krypto with Superman in a space pod.

DC League of Super-Pets

Years in Metropolis Krypto and Superman are inseparable best friends, playing together while fighting crime side by side. When Superman and Lois Lane start to date Krypto start to get a little uncomfortable. He meets a dog named Ace and keeps from escaping the animal shelter. He even gets into a fight with Superman on his date night and is too upset to hear him when Lulu shows up to kidnap him. When he does find out, he tries to stop Lulu, but he loses his powers when eats a piece of cheese laced with green kryptonite planted by Lulu. He receives a message from his dad telling him look inside himself. He meets Ace again this time with friends PB the potbellied pig, Merton the turtle, and Chip the squirrel; all having escaped the shelter after getting their powers.

He asks them for their in help rescuing Superman. While the other shelter pets agree, Ace is reluctant at first; but when Krypto blackmails him, he decides to play along.

When Krypto learns that Lulu has captured the Justice League and assembled an army of mutant guinea pigs, he tries to stop her; but all of Krypto's companions have trouble using their new powers. Krypto targets Lulu directly but is stopped by Lulu's telekinesis. Lulu then tells him that Superman and Lois will get married much to his horror before throwing him into the Hall of Justice.

Krypto then heads to the roof of the Hall to be left alone, but Ace comforts him by telling him about how he was owned by a family, but was taken to the shelter after biting the child's arm. He then tells Krypto that dogs "love unconditionally."

Krypto then deducts that Lulu is heading for Stryker's Island to bust Luthor out. When he and the other pets arrive, they are stopped by Whiskers who tries to gun them down. They hide in a car where Krypto trains them to use their powers to escape the car and trap Whiskers in a dumpster that they seal to the ground. Inside, they find Lulu springing Luthor out, but when they try to stop her, Lulu holds some pieces of metal over Krypto and cowardly threaten to kill him unless the super pets enter the cells. They give in, and Lulu throws Krypto in a cell as well before releasing Luthor and Mercy only for the former to throw her in. This leads to a vengeful Lulu going after him to get even, but not before she reveals to Krypto and friends that she has a timer set to destroy the Justice League.

After Lulu leaves, Krypto blames himself for the super pets' situation, despite that it’s Lulu who’s mostly at fault for what happened to them but it turns out the effects of the green kryptonite have worn off. Krypto frees everyone but tells them to stay behind so he won't lose them.

After a brief battle with Lulu, she reveals that the "bomb" was actually a rocket that was heading for the sun, and that it'll implode with the Justice League inside. She then damages a helicopter with Lois Lane in it forcing Krypto to choose between them. The other super pets arrive and rescue the Justice League while Krypto saves Lois. Krypto ragefully fights Lulu, she seems to have him pinned down but he gives her the smug smile, as the Justice League are saved, as he mocks her that unlike her he has friends and the punches her and kicks her to the building, presumably to have defeated her but no.

Enraged, Lulu injects some orange kryptonite into her brain to turn herself into a monster. Even the combined powers of the pets and the League aren't enough, so Krypto uses the Solar Paw Punch to sacrifice his life. It defeats Lulu, and Ace saves Krypto's life with his indestructibility to protect him from the solar blasts. After Lulu is finally defeated, and put in a hotdog cart by her former henchmen for her reckless actions. Krypto gives Superman his wedding ring and allows the to get married while all the other super pets are taken in by different members of the Justice League.

In the post-credits scene, Krypto is playing fetch with Superman in the park when a dog named Anubis steals his toy. Anubis belongs to Black Adam, and Krypto convinces him to make Black Adam fly to Neptune to take the toy back.

Powers and Abilities

As a native of Krypton, Krypto is able to absorb solar ratios typical of a yellow sun like Earth's, increasing his physical attributes to a phenomenal level and granting him additional abilities.

  • Super-strength: Krypto possesses Superman-like strength, thus potentially unlimited.
  • Invulnerability: Krypto is naturally invulnerable to physical trauma that endures from normal people or animals, such as bearing the weight of a train passing over him without the slightest inconvenience or being repeatedly thrown through walls without injury. Beings with superhuman power are nevertheless able to make him feel pain. Extreme solar explosions can be fatal to him.
  • Flight: Krypto is able to fly through the air at high speed.
  • Heat-vision: Krypto can fire heat beams that can melt and cut through any earthly material.
  • X-Ray vision: Krypto can see through any material except lead.
  • Freeze breath: Krypto's breath can instantly freeze anything that comes in contact with it.
  • Solar Paw Punch: By charging his body with solar energy directly near the sun, Krypto can launch a destructive attack whose power exceeds his standard capabilities which destroys both the villain and the hero who uses it. The only time Krypto uses it, his move defeats and eradicate the powers of an Orange Kryptonite-augmented Lulu.

Trivia

  • Unlike other incarnations of the character, this Krypto lived with Superman throughout his life, also growing up on the Kents' farm in Smallville. Also, Krypto is considerably older than his counterparts, being a puppy when he first arrived on Earth and having reached his mid-thirties while physically maintaining the appearance of a fully grown and healthy dog.
