Kurenai Kogetsu, also known as Madame Kurenai is a supporting character in the Edens Zero anime/manga series. She is the leader of a group of heroes called the Punishers that serve as protectors of the planet, Sun Jewel, and the real mother of Homura Kōgetsu.
Initially portrayed as an evil tyrant from Universe 1-3, in the world of Universe 0, Kurenai is instead portrayed as a benevolent protector of Sun Jewel, who has spent a majority of her life fighting against the Stone Bugs, so that the civilians on Sun Jewel are kept safe from the danger.
Personality[]
Kurenai shows herself to be a charismatic individual in leading the Valkyrie Army and the Zaiten Three to fight against the invading Stones, warning them of the dangers they are facing. Unlike her evil counterpart from Universe 1-3, Kurenai is a benevolent and tragical person who cares deeply for her daughter, Homura. She was a victim to her second husband, Mordo, who abused her and used her people on Oedo as hostages.

History[]
10 years ago, Universe 0 Kurenai entrusted Homura to a nurse and Drakken Joe. She came to Sun Jewel as a migrant worker, planning to return to Oedo with earnings of her work. However, Mordo (the tyrannical ruler of Sun Jewel) kidnapped those on Oedo and used them as hostages to force Kurenai on becoming his wife. Mordo created a Satellite Blaze to threaten the lives of the people on Oedo, so she would not think of betraying him. Kurenai tried to reunite with Homura, but couldn't, because of her second husband Mordo's threats to endanger the lives of the innocents.
Edens Zero Reunion arc[]
Kurenai, alongside the Zaiten Three and the Valkyrie Army work together in fighting the Stones that are invading planet Sun Jewel. She declares that she and her forces will act as the shield of Sun Jewel.
As Kurenai fights against the Stones, she is soon captured by one of them and is about to get eaten. Seeing Kurenai in danger, the Valkyrie Army and Homura worry for her safety. Kurenai is then saved from the Stone holding her hostage, with Homura attacking the monster. As she is saved by Homura, Kurenai is surprised to see her daughter be on Sun Jewel.
After defeating the Stones, Kurenai returned back to the castle. Homura came to her mother when she realized the truth from Valkyrie. Kurenai begged her daughter to leave because her abusive husband's attempt to destroy Oedo. Fortunately for Kurenai, Shiki beaten up her the man (who abused Kurenai for 10 years) and destroyed the Satellite Blaze (a satellite created by Kurenai's abusive husband to destroy Oedo), setting her free from her suffering at the hands from the man who abused her. She finally embraced Homura and apologies to her daughter for not being fit as her mother.
Although Kurenai does not appear in this chapter, Homura mentions the former's decision to stay on Sun Jewel, so that the Stones are exterminated for the safety of Sun Jewel's citizens.

In her free time, she is noted by one of the civilians on Sun Jewel of her worrying behavior towards Homura. Unlike her counterparts from universe 1-3, this Kurenai from Universe 0 loves her daughter, Homura and wished to protect her from her abusive second husband (who attempted to destroy Oedo).
After Shiki and his friends defeated Kurenai's husband (who she never loved due to his abusive actions towards her), Kurenai finally embraced Homura and apologized to her daughter for being an unfit mother. She wished to come with her daughter, but she decided to stay on Sun Jewel Planet to protect her people.
