Kuroka Toujou is a former antagonist turned major character of High School DxD. She is a Nekoshou, a rare variant of Nekomata. She is the older sister of Koneko Toujou, making her the firstborn daughter of Fujimai and her human lover. After their parent's deaths, she and her sister were turned by the Naberius clan into reincarnated Devils. However, after killing her previous master to protect her sister, Kuroka became an SS-Class Devil, one of the most wanted criminals.
She soon became a member of the Vali Team, who were previously affiliated with the Khaos Brigade, upon joining the Team DxD, she was exonerated from her previous crimes because of her actions. She is also one of Issei's fiancees. After the defeat of the Alliance of Hell, she became Xenovia Quarta's Bishop.
Biography[]
Kuroka’s initial appearance in Volume 5 occurred during the Young Devil’s Gathering alongside Bikou, where she defied Vali’s orders and engaged in a battle with Issei and Rias. Despite initially overpowering them with her poison mist Youjutsu, Issei managed to turn the tide by activating his Balance Breaker. After a warning from Issei, Kuroka retreated from the battle with the help of Arthur Pendragon. In Volume 7, Kuroka formed a temporary alliance with the Gremory Team to battle Loki and Fenrir.
She expressed interest in having babies with Issei to create strong offspring, a desire she previously had with Vali. During the final battle, she played a crucial role in restraining Fenrir and assisting her team in defeating their enemies. In Volume 11, Kuroka acted as Ophis’ bodyguard at the Hyoudou Residence, ensuring Koneko’s safety during her dangerous mating season. She also revealed her past as a Nekomata and her sacrifice to protect her sister, offering to teach Koneko the Nekomata’s powers. Throughout subsequent volumes, Kuroka continued to support her team in various battles and missions, eventually becoming a High-class Devil and joining Xenovia’s peerage.
She also developed a close bond with Issei and Koneko, working to reconcile their relationship and expressing her love for Issei. Kuroka’s journey with her team through the various challenges they faced, including battles against powerful foes and personal growth, highlighted her loyalty, strength, and determination.
Her evolving relationships with Issei, Koneko, and the rest of her team showcased her depth as a character and her commitment to protecting those she cares about. Kuroka’s development from a rebellious and independent Nekomata to a trusted ally and friend within the group demonstrated her growth and transformation throughout the series.
Appearance[]
Kuroka possesses a striking appearance, characterized by her stunning beauty and curvaceous physique. She has long, luscious black hair with a distinctive split bang, complemented by captivating hazel-gold eyes that have cat-like pupils. Her measurements are height of 161 cm and and a weight of 49 kg.
Her signature outfit consists of a stylish black kimono adorned with a vibrant yellow obi, a set of elegant golden beads, and a intricately designed headband. The kimono, with a red interior, is elegantly draped over her shoulders, showcasing her ample bosom which rivals the sizes of Rias and Akeno. In her Nekomata form, which she maintains at all times, Kuroka sprouts a pair of sleek black cat ears and two graceful black tails, adding to her allure and feline charm.
Personality[]
Initially, Kuroka’s demeanor appeared malevolent, exuding an aura of outright evil that surpassed Azazel’s vice. Her dark past involved the tragic murder of her former master due to her inability to control her Senjutsu, leading her to descend into madness. This violent history was reflected in her first encounter, where she threatened to harm Rias, Issei, and her sister, using poison to weaken Koneko and Rias while expressing her desire to manipulate Koneko as a pawn. However, Kuroka later dismissed this vicious behavior as merely going along with the flow. In ordinary circumstances, she exudes a playful, carefree, and simple-minded attitude, finding joy in teasing others.
Her demeanor is often lewd and provocative, using her allure and sensuality as tools for teasing, particularly targeting Issei. Despite her mischievous tendencies, Fenrir criticized her for squandering her potential due to these traits. Kuroka’s lustful and perverted nature is evident in her unabashed enjoyment of engaging in intimate acts with Issei, expressing dismay when he temporarily lost his perversion due to the Alphecca Tyrant. Beneath her playful facade, Kuroka harbors a kind and compassionate side, especially towards her beloved sister, Koneko, whom she cherishes above all else. To provide for Koneko after their parents’ deaths, Kuroka willingly became a reincarnated Devil, even resorting to eliminating her former master to shield her sister from harm, despite the consequences of being branded a criminal.
Despite her affection, Kuroka struggles to openly display her caring side, often resorting to teasing Koneko instead. Driven by a desire to revive their rare Nekoshou species, Kuroka sought to bear strong offspring, initially approaching Vali before turning her attention to Issei, both hosts of the Heavenly Dragons. Her eagerness to expand her species’ lineage underscores her commitment to their survival. Living as a freeloader in the Hyoudou Residence, Kuroka indulges in video games and gluttony, shirking household responsibilities and relying on others, unlike Le Fay. When confronted about her laziness, she would offer sexual favors to Issei as a means of evasion. Sharing Koneko’s voracious appetite, Kuroka often helps herself to others’ snacks without permission and joined the Gremory group’s fishing trip solely to feast on the catch, attributing her ample bosom to the nutrients consumed. Emphasizing her feline traits, Kuroka frequently punctuates her sentences with “Nya,” mimicking a cat’s meow and showcasing her playful and whimsical nature.
