Kwang is a major character in 007’s movie Licence to Kill.
He is a Hong Kong Police Narcotics agent and a featured in John Gardner's accompanying novelization, send to help James Bond to stop Franz Sanchez’s evil plans.
He was played by Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, who also played Ken Fujiyoshi in Hachiko: A Dog's Story, and Shang Tsung in Mortal Kombat (1995), Krull in Planet of the Ape (2001)
History[]
Together with Loti, Kwang disguised as a drug trafficker who for years have been trying to infiltrate the operations of Franz Sanchez, the drug baron. While Sanchez makes a deal to monopolize drug trafficking across the Pacific with his new partners, Kwang insists to Loti that Sanchez has good faith intentions, so his boss taunts him about it.
When James Bond arrives on a mission is about to kill Sanchez, Loti and Kwang knock them unconscious and take him to their shelter thinking it is a fake, a cover from Sanchez, Kwang furiously attacks him for jeopardizing their entire effort. At that moment, however, Colonel Heller breaks in where they are with his soldiers. Kwang tells Loti that it would be better if she is not taken alive, but she only kills two Heller’s soldiers before being killed herself. Colonel Heller later found him, check in him and inform Sanchez he was still alive. Sanchez grab him by his and pointed his gun as his neck and demanded to know who sent him.
Kwang in a crisis of loss and frustration commits suicide by biting a cyanide capsule and then Sanchez in anger shoots him.
