~ In-game biography of Kyle Garrick. |
Sergeant Kyle "Gaz" Garrick is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Soap) of the Call of Duty franchise's rebooted Modern Warfare sub-series.
After the terrorist attack at Piccadilly Circus, Kyle joined the Special Air Service under the command of Captain Price to stop Al-Qatala and General Barkov's forces. After the destruction of Barkov's gas factory, Kyle was given the codename "Gaz" and was recruited into Captain Price's group, Task Force 141. Gaz would assist the team to stop Viktor Zakhaev, who was planning to launch missiles from Verdansk. In 2022, Gaz continued his service with Price and Laswell to stop Hassan Zyani from launching missiles to avenge Quds Force General Ghorbrani.
He is voiced and motion captured by Elliot Knight, who also played Merlin in Once Upon a Time.
Biography[]
Military Service[]
Kyle Garrick enlisted in the British Army in 2014 and served in the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment before passing selection for the Special Air Services. Garrick rose to the rank of sergeant and traveled around the world hunting terror cells, notably in Bosnia, Afghanistan, and many others. In addition, he was the only one in his Resistance to Interrogation (RTI) class to pass by escaping and avoiding capture.
During his service, Garrick was awarded the U.S. Marine Corps Gold Parachute Wings, the Queen's Gallantry Medal, and the General Service Medal for counterterrorism in the Middle East, working with the SAS' American counterparts, the Navy SEALs. His last Middle-Eastern tour was cut short due to political climate change and intolerance for unconventional warfare, and Kyle became part of the Metropolitan Police Service, an SAS domestic counter-terror program to stop terror cells. Due to civilian and collateral damage being in the way, Garrick wanted to return abroad to stop terrorists.

On October 25, 2019, Garrick and the CTSFO stopped a vehicle that contained Al-Qatala terrorists, who detonated bombs across Piccadilly Circus in Central London. Kyle and the CTSFO fought against the terrorists and met up with Captain Price and his team Bravo Six to save hostages. After the terrorist attack, Kyle spoke of his frustrations about having their hands tied, and after revealing to Price that they had intelligence on the terror cells, he was recruited into Bravo Six.
Two days after the terrorist attack, Garrick partners with Price and SAS units, who lead a raid on a townhouse where terror cells were living. After clearing the floors and stopping a terrorist from detonating the townhouse, Price gathered intel on The Wolf's location. CIA officer Alex and the United States Marine Corps captured The Wolf and took him to the U.S. Embassy to be interrogated. Garrick and Price were flown to retrieve The Wolf but were shot down by an Al-Qatala soldier with an RPG.
The Embassy was breached by The Wolf's second-in-command, The Butcher, and Al-Qatala forces, who murdered innocent civilians. Despite being provoked by The Butcher, Kyle is held back and fights through the Embassy to meet up with Alex and Farah Karim. In the panic room, they realize they need Ambassador Harris' keycard, but he is killed by an Al-Qatala soldier. Kyle helps Harris' assistant, Stacy Davidson get to them with the keycard, allowing them to hide The Wolf as they fight Al-Qatala forces. Kyle, Price, Farah, Hadir, Alex, and military forces are held by the terrorist group but are unable to stop them from breaking out The Wolf.
The group decided to break to stop The Wolf from escaping, with Garrick and Price going door-to-door looking for The Wolf and The Butcher, as Alex, Farah, and Hadir went to the Highway of Death to intercept him. During the battle, Hadir revealed that he stole the Russian gas, and uses it to defeat the Al-Qatala's forces, but nearly kills Farah and Alex. Price and Garrick save Farah and Alex, who survived because of their gas masks, and take them to Laswell to brief. After deciding to stop The Wolf, The Butcher, and Hadir, Laswell gives Garrick and the team executive authority over their operations.
Garrick and Bravo team assault The Wolf's compound, and Captain Price gets intel from a civilian about The Wolf's location - underground the tea house. Garrick, Price, Farah, and Alex go to the hole, but Alex and Farah are separated from them due to an explosion. Despite the separation, Farah and Alex managed to get to The Wolf, killing him and disarming his bomb vest. The team returned to learn that the United States has labeled Farah's forces as terrorists, angering Captain Price, who convinces Laswell to let him do a "black" operation in St. Petersburg to capture The Butcher.
Kyle and Price go to St. Petersburg and meet with the captain's old comrade, Nikolai, and his allies to capture The Butcher. Price and Garrick collect suppressed weapons from Nikolai and manage to find The Butcher before chasing him across St. Petersburg. The chase ends when Nikolai hits The Butcher with his van, and they take him to their warehouse to get information on Hadir's location. When The Butcher refuses to give information, Price orders Kyle to get the "package", and retrieves a mother and child.
Kyle gives the "package" to Price, who asks the sergeant if is he in or out, but The Butcher will give them information no matter what is chosen. If the player decides to interrogate The Butcher, they have the option to spare him or kill him in front of his wife and son. Afterward, Garrick and Price escape St. Petersburg by driving a police car as The Butcher is found by police. Kyle questions Price on where to draw the line and is told that it's up to him, and is asked if he's still in. Garrick responds that he is still in, and the two prepare to infiltrate Hadir's location.
Garrick and Price infiltrate Barkov's estate, and Price does overwatch as the sergeant goes through each location to find Hadir. Garrick comes across hostages who are relatives of Barkov's, and they tell him that Hadir is in the main house. Captain Price secures Hadir, and the two escort Karim while a helicopter attacks them. In addition, Price and Garrick get information about Barkov's chemical gas factory in Georgia. When returning to base, Laswell orders them to hand over Hadir so that he can answer his crimes. Price allows them to do so, but decides to keep the intel on Barkov's factory.
Price recruits Garrick, Farah, and Alex to assault Barkov's chemical factory with the assistance of Laswell and Nikolai. Garrick and Price advance to the pipelines to set explosives, as Alex sacrifices himself so that he can detonate the furnace since the detonator was damaged. As the factory exploded, Garrick and Price escaped while Farah killed General Barkov for his actions. Afterward, Russia disowns Barkov's actions, and Garrick is recruited into Captain Price's group called Task Force 141. In addition, Kyle is nicknamed "Gaz" because he doesn't say much, according to Captain Price, and is recruited alongside SAS operators John "Soap" MacTavish and Simon "Ghost" Riley.
Warzone[]
Following his recruitment, Gaz worked with Captain Price in Verdansk to prevent the situation in the area from getting worse, as the Armistice started to fight each other after a toxic gas was released. After learning of Victor Zakhaev's intentions, Task Force 141 partners with Farah, Alex, Nikolai, and Marcus Griggs to stop him. Launching a diversion, Price is able to kill Zakhaev and stop his plans from coming to fruition, and 141 leaves the area to meet with Soap.
Modern Warfare II[]
While tracking an Al-Qatala cell at the docks in Amsterdam, Gaz and Price are contacted by Laswell, who asked them to find any intel on any American ballistic missiles. Eliminating the patrol, the two operatives obtain a phone that reveals an upcoming meeting with the Las Almas Cartel. Working with Laswell, they capture the Al-Qatala smuggler and after interrogating him, learn that Quds Force Major Hassan Zyani is being smuggled into the United States. With this information, Laswell asks Colonel Alejandro Vargas to stop Zyani, but he is unable to due to the major's support from the cartel. Despite this, Hassan is later captured by Vargas with the support of Ghost, Soap, and Shadow Company commander Phillip Graves.
After gathering intel from Hassan's phone, Gaz, Price, and Laswell travel to Spain to infiltrate a smuggling ring, but they are unable to find any signs of the second missile. During the operation, Kate is kidnapped by the Al-Qatala, but the two rescue her from the terrorist organization with the help of Farah and Nikolai. Later on, Laswell contacts Gaz and Price to locate Ghost and Soap in Las Almas following Shadow Company's betrayal. The operatives arrive at a prison where Ghost, Soap, Vargas, and his second-in-command Rodolfo Parra are attempting to escape with Alejandro's subordinates. Gaz and Price arrive in the nick of time to help them escape and are informed by Laswell of General Shepherd and Graves' illegal operation.
After Price confronts Shepherd for his actions, the captain forms Joint Task Force - Ghost Team to help Los Vaqueros retake their base and eliminate Graves. Infiltrating the headquarters, Gaz and Vargas work together to reach the cartel's leader Valeria Garza as the others fight against Shadow Company. Following Graves' death, 141 and Vargas interrogate Valeria and learn that the final missile is in Chicago. The task force then perform a joint operation with the MARSOC marines to stop Hassan, resulting in the missile being destroyed and Zyani being eliminated by Ghost. The threat eliminated, 141 meets with Kate at a bar, where she warns of the Ultranationalists and their leader, whom Price identifies as Makarov.
Atomgrad[]
In December, Gaz is informed by Laswell of an operation in the Sattiq Mountains, with Alex and three of Farah's fighters losing contact while searching a Soviet bunker. Traveling to the facility with Price and Farah, the operatives are assigned to find Alex and the fighters while doing a thorough search. Finding the rebels' corpses, Gaz cuts on the power in the room, discovering that the bunker is holding an ICBM missile. Continuing their search, they find Alex, who explains that Hadir, now in command of the Al-Qatala, left him alive to give Farah a message to join his cause or stay out of his way.
Upon learning this, Gaz returns above to get in contact with command as Price, Farah and Alex to stop Hadir from launching the ICBM. Once Hadir is eliminated, Gaz reunites with his teammates with the ULF containing the missile.
Modern Warfare III[]
In 2023, Captain Price is informed by Laswell of Vladimir Makarov's escape from the Zordaya Prison Complex, and reassigns his team from their current mission to stop the terrorist leader. 141 is deployed to Urzikstan to stop Konni, a private military company under Makarov's command, from taking over a nuclear power plant. The team fight against Konni, but discover that they were retrieving gas from General Barkov's era and successfully exfiltrate. Despite the failed operation, Laswell contacts them about Farah's situation, with her placing trackers on missiles that Konni stole to an abandoned complex within the region. Joining forces with Karim, the team split into two groups to stop the missiles from launching, but fail in stopping two from reaching the Arklov Military Base.
Following the mission, 141 reluctantly decides to form an alliance with Shadow Company and General Shepherd, who gives them intel on Konni's financer Milena Romanova and her private island. After Ghost and Soap interrogate her for information, she reveals that Konni have station themselves in a safehouse in St. Petersburg. Gaz and Price then commence an assault on the safehouse and capture Makarov's right-hand Andrei Nolan, exfiltrating from the area to interrogate him for information. Gathering intel of Makarov having cargo transferred in Siberia, Gaz participates in ambushing the convoy only to discover that it was Shepherd himself. Garrick manages to convince Price that they needed to leave the area, and with Laswell, make a deal for Shepherd to speak to congress in exchange for information on Makarov's plans.
Shepherd agrees to the deal, revealing that Makarov sent Konni to destroy the Gora Dam, but Ghost and Soap stop them from activating bombs. Following a mission with Shadow Company in attacking a Konni base, Laswell contacts Price with MI6 finding evidence of Konni's presence in London. Gaz joins the team in stopping Makarov from detonating a bomb in the tunnels, but Soap is killed when Vladimir ambushes him and Price. After stopping the bomb, Gaz, Ghost and Price spread Soap' ashes in Scotland to honor their fallen teammate. Gaz accompanied Price and Ghost in their hunt on Makarov.
