Lady Micte is a major character in the Netflix animated series Maya and the Three. She is the goddess of death and the wife of Lord Mictlan the god of war and the mother of the protagonist Maya.
She was previously an ambitious and power-hungry goddess but after having her daughter with King Teca, she redeemed herself and decided to do everything she could to help her daughter Maya stop Mictlan.
She was portrayed by Kate del Castillo, who played La Muerte in The Book Of Life.
Biography[]
Micte was originally a power-hungry goddess and that is why she wanted to marry the most powerful god of all, Lord Mictlan, the proclaimed god of war. Candlemaker was in charge of marrying them, where her sister La Muerte and Xibalba, Mictlan's brother, also attended. Over time, Mictle realized that Mictlan was going to betray her in order to become stronger and that is why she decided to have a human daughter with King Teca, knowing that this daughter could end Mictlan.
9 months after Maya's birth, Micte presented her to Mictlan with the excuse that he could sacrifice her. Mictlan, delighted with the idea, was about to do so but Micte stopped him saying that he could increase her power if she reached a certain number of years. , specifically 15 years old, that's why Micte took her to the human world, saddened by abandoning her, he took her to her biological father and King Teca and his wife decided to raise her, but nevertheless Micte decided to secretly visit her daughter every time she could.
15 years later, Mictlan sent his messenger Prince Zatz to inform the Teca army about Maya's origin and to be able to claim her as his own. Mictlan was in the underworld next to her husband while listening to Zatz about his report.
After Mictlan massacred the Teca army, he sent Zatz and Acat to look for Maya to bring her to him, there Micte only reminded the 2 that they had to bring her alive so that she could be sacrificed.
Acat returned to the underworld failed, informing Mictlan that Maya escaped and Micte asked her where Zatz was and Acat lied saying that she didn't know, then Mictlan kills Acat by eating her heart and Micte and Camazotz watch the act in terror.
After Maya and the 3 warriors went to the underworld to face Mictlan, Micte just watched as Mictlan fought with them, at one point she intervenes and helps them escape when Maya is almost sacrificed, she turns into a giant owl and decides to take them back to the surface, unfortunately Picchu sacrifices himself so they can escape.

- Immortality: Micte, like all gods, has immortality, which is why she cannot die of old age or illness, but it is still seen that she has the ability to die just like everyone else, even if she is the same goddess of death.
- Magic: Micte could use magic although in the end her magic was unique and showed itself in different ways such as when she could make flowers appear out of nowhere so she could get relief.
- Shapeshifting: Micte had the ability to change shape, she could transform into a giant owl, a common war or a villager (a way in which she could visit her daughter, apparently he used this power visibly to change his eyes from normal to a phosphorescent yellow.
- Necromancy: Micte could manifest the souls of the non-living in the human world, thus he was able to manifest the souls of Picchu and Maya's brothers in order to help her.
- Telequinesis: Micte seemed to have a certain level of telekinesis, as seen when he moved a weapon with his hand so that Chimi could stab Mictla in the back.
- Levitation: Micte has the ability to levitate at will as seen when he entered the main room in the underworld.
