Lafter Frankland

Lafter Frankland is an ace Mobile Suit pilot of the Turbines and a hero in Mobile Suit Gundam IRON-BLOODED ORPHANS.

She is voiced by Yōko Hikasa in Japanese and by Cristina Valenzuela in the English dub.

History

Lafter was one of many women who joined the Turbines and married Naze Turbine for protection. When the Turbines first encountered Tekkadan after making a deal with Maruba Arkay, Lafter fought Mikazuki Augus to a standstill before being called off by Naze. Later, after Tekkadan was inducted into Teiwaz, Lafter began training Akihiro Altland of Tekkadan by sparring with him in mobile suit combat simulations. She later joined the rest of the Turbines in helping to escort Tekkadan to Earth. Over time, Lafter would begin to realize her feelings for Akihiro and made plans to leave the Turbines to join Tekkadan. Her feelings were recognized by both Naze and Amida, who approved of them and her leaving and hoped she would find happiness.

After Jasley Donomikals, envious of Naze's relationship with Teiwaz's boss McMurdo, framed the Turbines for smuggling an illegal Dainsleif weapon, the Turbines were declared an illegal organization by Gjallarhorn and were forced to withdraw from his membership of Teiwaz. A Gjallarhorn fleet led by Iok Kujan soon showed up to put an end to the Turbines, causing Naze to order his crew to evacuate to ensure their safety. Naze attempted to surrender, but Iok ignored Naze's signals for surrender and instead ordered his forces to fire on the Hammerhead and pods carrying civilians from it with Dainsleifs. Lafter and the other Turbines pilots went out in their mobile suits to fight off the attack and guard the pods but they were overwhelmed by Gjallarhorn's forces. Luckily, Tekkadan showed up just in time to guard the transport and protect the civilians.

Though Lafter and most of the other Turbines had survived, the battle left both Naze and Amida dead and the Turbines with no protection within Teiwaz. Taking advantage of this, Jasley began targeting the other Turbine women in order to goad Tekkadan into challenging him and remove his last rivals for power. While out shopping for a gift to give to Akihiro, Lafter was assassinated by men sent by Jasley.
