Lakitu is a character from the Super Mario series. He is usually depicted as an adversary of Mario and his allies, but also has a supporting role in some video games he appears in.
In the Mario Kart series, Lakitu pulls characters out of bottomless pits, lava, and water, and he takes a moment to put the characters on the road. He also waves a flag in the Mario Kart games as he tells you where to go. A Lakitu with a red shell is one of the playable characters in Mario Kart 7, and returns again in Mario Kart 8 as an unlockable character.
