Laruto is a minor yet significant character who appeared in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. She is the only known Zora in the game, as the rest of her kind have evolved into the Rito to adjust to life on land. She was a sage that once prayed in the Earth Temple to maintain the Master Sword's power to repel evil.
History[]
Laruto was the Sage of Earth who offered her prayers to keep the Master Sword's power strong. However, when Ganondorf returned from a hundred-year imprisonment, he sends two monsters to the temples. Jalhalla in particular succeeded in killing her. Since then, her ghost was stuck inside the Earth Temple until a successor can be found.
When Link learns the Earth God's Lyric from a stone slab, Laruto appears to Link and makes her request to him to find someone who can succeed her, the one that also carries an instrument similar to hers. When Link leaves the temple, he heads to Dragon Roost Island where he found the person that Laruto was inquiring of: Medli. After Link conducts the Earth God's Lyric, Medli passes out which Laruto then appears to her and teaches her the Earth God's Lyric. When she comes to, Medli begins to understand her destiny and asks to take her to the Earth Temple.
Laruto appears for the last time after her killer, Jalhalla was vanquished for good, where she plays her harp alongside Medli which restores the Master Sword halfway, and she is able to leave the Earth Temple, able to rest in peace.
