Professor Andrew Garner, also known as Lash, is a supporting character in Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

He is the ex-husband of Melinda May. He was also a former neurologist and forensic psychologist specialized in working with gifted individuals, before becoming a monstrous Inhuman hunting down and killing his own kind.

In his human form, he is portrayed by Blair Underwood, who also voices Makuu in The Lion Guard, while in his Lash form, he is portrayed by Matthew Willig.

Biography[]

Andrew Garner was a neurologist and psychologist who specialized in working with the gifted people from the Index. During his career within S.H.I.E.L.D., he met and married agent Melinda May, though they eventually got divorced. Garner later returned to S.H.I.E.L.D. to help Skye with her powers as she was having trouble controlling them. While taking a vacation with May, Garner underwent Terrigenesis when he accidentally broke the Terrigen Crystal hidden in a book originally belonging to Jiaying, and he was transformed into the monster Lash.

Garner eventually learned how to control his transformations and managed to hide his true nature from everyone around him. During the Inhuman outbreak, Garner decided to establish a cover by helping S.H.I.E.L.D. while tracking down and killing Inhumans as Lash. However, when his secret was discovered, Garner was briefly taken prisoner by HYDRA before escaping and going on the run for several months. Eventually, Garner knew that he would be gone soon and that Lash was taking over so he willingly surrendered himself to S.H.I.E.L.D. in order to say goodbye to May. In a final attempt to kill the dark Inhuman Hive, Lash saved Daisy Johnson from his control, but while he carried his friend away, he was killed by Hellfire, dying a hero.

Inhuman Physiology: After undergoing Terrigenesis, Andrew had gained superhuman powers; Andrew's transformation changed him physically, turning him into a terrifying grey-skinned beast with a long mane growing from his scalp down to his upper back.
Superhuman Strength: Lash possessed superhuman strength, being able to accomplish feats of strength that a normal human would find difficult.
Superhuman Durability: Lash was able to withstand various forms of attack such as Daisy Johnson's Seismic powers, and Lincoln Campbell's lighting powers without succumbing to harm, as well as multiple gunshot hits to the chest. Bullets can still penetrate his skin, but they do not seem to slow him down or harm him.
Accelerated Healing Factor: Lash was able to was able to recover from wounds in a matter of seconds to minutes.
