Launch is a heroine of the manga and anime Dragon Ball and one of the secondary heroes of the series. She is a supporting/major character in Dragon Ball and a minor/mirror character in the Dragon Ball following series. Launch suffers from advanced schizophrenia, which causes her to shift between a soft-spoken, kind-hearted personality and a brash borderline sociopath personality. For unknown reasons, the personality switches affect her hair color, with the kind-hearted Launch having blue hair and the wild rogue having blonde hair. While kind Launch is certainly safer to have around, she is a pacifist who can not bring herself to do harm to others. Anarchist Launch can though, and will annihilate anyone who tries to hurt Goku, Krillin or any other of her friends. Launch's brash personality is also a hardened criminal, however her thefts are usually foiled by her kinder-side who returns the money, car, etc., confused as to why she had them in the first place. Neither personality seems to acknowledge the other exists despite attempts to inform her of such.
She is voiced by Mami Koyama in the Japanese version, and by Onalea Gilbertson, Meredith McCoy, Leah Clark, Monika Antonelli, Jodi Forrest and Colleen Clinkenbeard in the English versions.
Appearance[]
Launch is a teenage girl who has a slender build. She wears yellow shorts, a green shirt, and red shoes with green sweatband. As Good Launch, she also has purple hair, and when she changes to her violent self, her hair changes to blond.
Biography[]
Dragon Ball[]
Launch first appears as a wanted criminal for her multiple robberies committed by her other self. However, once following a robbery she is chased by the police after shifting back into her innocent form and were saved by the young Krillin and Goku, who were in search of a woman for Master Roshi. She then returned to the Kame House where she began living. She began training, but quickly gave it up and began taking care of the house chores. Following the World Martial Arts Tournament, she remains on the island with Roshi, Krillin and Turtle and remains mostly out of conflict until her life is threatened by a soldier of the Red Ribbon Army. However, she once again changes, defeating the soldier. She then is part of the group which goes to aid Goku in his battle against the Red Ribbon Army, but they arrive too late as Goku had defeated them himself. After three years pass, Launch continues living at Kame House and was once again going to skip the World Martial Arts Tournament, but fate would intervene and she changed into her evil side, who decides to accompany the group to the tournament. Although when she was there, she didn't behave, even attempting to murder Master Shen by firing multiple rounds with her machine gun, only for it to prove ineffective as he caught each bullet. She also was responsible for making sure Goku arrived in time for his match against Pamput, as the fighter's manager attempted to force a forfeit. She is then an onlooker throughout the Goku and Krillin match, shouting encouragement to each of the boys, and tries to stop the cheating in the finals by attacking Chiaotzu, who was using his psychic powers to interfere.
She later returns to watch the next World Martial Arts Tournament, watching each of the matches. She then leaves with Tien and Chiaotzu and remains with them until their death while fighting Nappa, after which the majority of her time is spent in a bar. She is later killed when Buu destroys all life on Earth, but is brought back by the Dragon Balls alongside all the others who had died. She later gives some of her energy to Goku for his Spirit Bomb to finally defeat Buu.
Dragon Ball Z[]
Kid Buu Saga[]
Years later, as Goku requested the people of Earth to pour their energy into his spirit bomb as to finally destroy Kid Buu, Launch was one of the few who gave their energy to him before Hercule Satan lied about it being for him to destroy Kid Buu. She appeared to have been working as a truck driver for a company named "Lunch Express".

Trivia[]
- Toriyama admitted that he forgot about Launch when he wrote Dragon Ball Z, which is why she didn't reappear. Paying in mind her bad personality is in love with Tien, whom died in the Saiyan Saga. Without a way to find out he was brought back, Launch has no reason to continue associating with the Z Team.
