~ Leafeon's Moon and Violet Pokédex Entry |
Leafeon is a Grass-Type Pokémon from Generation IV and one of the eight evolutions of Eevee. Its counterpart is the Eeveelution, Glaceon.
Appearance[]
Leafeon has a tan feline body with brown paws, eyes and ear holes. It also has leaf and rabbit-like rhomboid ears and a leaf-like tail but it has actual leaves coming out of its chest, head, back of its neck and on its legs.
Personality[]
Leafeon's Platinum PokéDex Entry suggests that they are mainly pacifists and do not like to fight, however it may not be true or they fight when they have to like in Pokémon Battles or to protect their home and friends. The anime shows that they are gentle and kind, they also spend the majority of their time bathing and basking under sunlight to perform photosynthesis, so they don't always need to eat. Most Leafeon quietly inhabit forests with clean flowing rivers.
Natural Abilities[]
According to the Pokédex, Leafeon employ photosynthesis and purify the air around them by sleeping under the sunlight; they get their energy in this way instead of eating. Leafeon's razor sharp tails are capable of slicing even through the largest of trees. They can also emit aroma that is similar to fresh grass in its youth; as one ages, this fragrance bears more of a resemblance to fallen leaves. The aroma is favored in the Galar region as it's used to create a popular perfume.
Evolution[]
Since its introduction, Eevee requires to be near a Mossy Rock located in specific places at each game, however Generation VIII changed this method as it requires a Leaf Stone to evolve into Leafeon from Gen VIII forward.
Trivia[]
- Its cry sounds similar to a cat's meow in earlier games. However, in most recent games, Leafeon will sometimes bark.
- Leafeon is the first mammalian Grass-type. In Pokémon X, Leafeon can learn Aerial Ace despite being a Grass-type.
- According to the Diamond and Pearl's Pokédex, Leafeon and Glaceon's footprints are the same (this may be related to the fact they both evolve under similar conditions, leveling up near a special rock).
- The idea of a Grass-type Eeveelution was once the subject of many rumors due to Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon evolving by respective elemental stones, and further exacerbated a mystique to players how the Leaf Stone nor the Moon Stone did not work on Eevee in the same fashion in Generation I.
- In Generation VIII, both Leafeon and Glaceon gets a new way of evolving, they do not evolve in a certain place anymore, instead they evolve with Evolution Stones and that is by a Leaf Stone for Leafeon, and an Ice Stone for Glaceon.
- As a result of those changes, the original false belief that the Leaf Stone evolved Eevee into Leafeon is now true.
- Prior to the changes in evolutionary methods, for 13 years, it was impossible to obtain Leafeon or Glaceon below Level 2, as the old method of leveling up near a rock obviously required leveling up at least once. However, as of Generation VIII, these Pokémon can now be obtained at Level 1, as no Experience points are required for stone evolutions.
- Like Espeon, Leafeon has a type-disadvantage against its evolutionary counterpart (Umbreon and Glaceon respectively). The Psychic-type Espeon is weak against the Dark-type Umbreon and the Grass-type Leafeon is weak against the Ice-type Glaceon. Interestingly, both Espeon and Leafeon are associated with the sun and moves relating to it, as Espeon is the Sun Pokémon and learns Morning Sun via leveling up and Sunny Day via TM while Leafeon uses the sun for photosynthesis and learns Sunny Day and Synthesis via leveling up and Solar Beam via TM.
- Both Leafeon and Glaceon are weak against the Fire-type Flareon.
- Unlike Espeon, Leafeon does gain a type-advantage against one of Eevee's evolved forms, as the Water-type Vaporeon is weak against Leafeon.
