Lee Butters is a major character in Lethal Weapon 4. He is Roger Murtaugh's son-in-law and the husband of Murtaugh's daughter, Rianne Murtaugh and the father of his baby. He is a rookie detective for the LAPD.

He was portrayed by Chris Rock, who also portrayed Osmosis Jones in the movie of the same name, Marty from the Madagascar franchise Mooseblood the Mosquito in Bee Movie and Kurt McKenzie in the Grown Ups film series.

Biography[]

Lethal Weapon 4[]

Lee Butters is first shown Riggs and Murtaugh foil a raid on a ship that contains Chinese slaves and shows his gratitude by giving Murtaugh a towel, even though he didn't need it. He later teams up with them into taking down Wah Sing Ku and his henchman. He sacrifices himself to save Murtaugh from being shot in the final battle, but survives due to wearing a bullet proof vest. He later appears at the hospital as he sees Rianne giving birth to their baby and joins in with the whole family, including Riggs, Murtaugh, and Leo into taking a picture.

  • Lee Butters may have inspired the character of James Carter (played by Chris Tucker) from Rush Hour, which was released the same year as Lethal Weapon 4.
