Leif is one of the main protagonists of the indie video game Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling. He is a moth who wields ice magic and had been trapped within Snakemouth Den for a very long time.
History[]
Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling[]
Leif lived in the Ant Kingdom with his wife Muse and father. He served under Queen Elizant I as part of a scouting team that went to explore the dangerous labyrinth known as Snakemouth Den. Unfortunately, Leif fell deeper into the caves depths where he somehow perished and his body remained for at least an entire generation; during which it became imbued with ice magic from exposure to mysterious crystals.
At some point, Roach scientists build a hidden lab within Snakemouth Den in an attempt to replicate the effects of the Everlasting Sapling using cordyceps fungus. One of their discarded failed prototypes managed to survive by latching onto Leif's body and reanimating it before gradually gaining Leif's memories as well, forgetting its own past.
Eventually, a pair of explorers saved the reanimated moth from being potentially harmed by a spider while looking for an ancient artifact hidden within the den. He thanked his saviors Kabbu and Vi as he joined them in their search under the assumption he was Leif. Upon discovering he had ice magic, Leif used it to help the explorers obtain the artifact they were searching for and was shocked to realise just how much time had past while he was trapped inside Snakemouth Den.
Leif continued to accompany Kabbu and Vi on their quest to locate the Everlasting Sapling but later requested if they can help him find his descendants. The trio came across a female moth named Muze in Ant Town that Leif believed to be his possible relation due to her name and appearance. However, Leif was reluctant to visit her and her family until he learns more about what happened to him inside Snakemouth Den.
The team decided to investigate Snakemouth further and soon discover the Roach's hidden lab which had become overrun by hostile zombie bugs. They work their way into a room full of contained experiments hoping to find some answers but instead encounter a large creature called a Zommoth that Leif suddenly identified as his sibling.
Upon defeating the Zommoth in battle, a holographic recording activated in the lab which revealed the truth about Leif's past, causing Leif to feel confused and uncertain about himself. The trip back to Muze's home gave Leif time to think about what he had learnt and soon came to the conclusion that he was simply an individual named Leif rather than the same Leif that served under Queen Elizant I. However, he still met with Muze's family as their ancestor in order to better protect those the original Leif would care about.
