Lenny is the deuteragonist of the Space Dogs franchise. He is a street rat who is Strelka's best friend and, just like her and Belka, becomes an astronaut.
Biography[]
Past[]
Lenny descends from a family of ship-dwelling rats. He was once given a watch by his grandfather, and has worn it ever since. Eventually, he wound up living in the streets of Moscow with Strelka.
Space Dogs[]
Lenny and Strelka encountered Belka by chance, but had to stick together to survive the hazards of street life. Eventually, all three were captured and sent to the space center in Kazakhstan, where they were trained for a space flight. Lenny was scared of going to space and tried to escape, but failed. Nevertheless, he showed good enough results to become an astronauts, even coming in first during the obstacle course organized as a final challenge for the space cadets.
During the space mission, Sputnik-5 caught fire, and Lenny took part in putting it out. He fell into the fire, however, and almost died, but was saved by Kazbek. After coming back to Earth, Lenny became famous and used his status to lecture hooliganish teenagers.
Space Dogs: Adventure to the Moon[]
One day, Lenny's watch was stolen by an alien hiding on the Moon, and then he himself was abducted while trying to rob a phone booth. There, he met an American chimp astronaut Chip and traversed the satellite with his aid. Eventually he ran into Belka and Strelka, and together they helped the alien find his parents and return everything he stole back to Earth. On the Moon, Lenny's watch was destroyed, but he was given a new device by the alien's parents as a replacement. After that, all Earth animals returned to their home planet.
Space Dogs: Return to Earth[]
Back on Earth, Lenny used his new accessory as an attraction, as it allowed its wearer to levitate. He earned plenty of money by renting it to other animals, but it put him at odds with law enforcement. To avoid arrest, he and his new friend, a cockroach student named Thomas, escaped to Cuba in hopes of meeting his uncle Jonas there. In Cuba, Lenny met a muskrat named Maria and instantly fell in love with her. Later, he, Thomas, Jonas and Maria came to Belka and Strelka's aid whent they were captured by pirates. They were all, however, sucked up by a mysterious vortex that was absorbing the Atlantic Ocean. They discovered that the ones responsible were two aliens, Croakagy and Pumbary, who wanted to use the stolen water to rehydrate their dying home planet. Belka and Strelka attempted to resolve the conflict by offering them water samples from Enceladus instead, but discovered that they were missing. Just then, Maria revealed her true nature as a con artist, who only pretended to love Lenny back. She coldly rejected him, making him tear up, and attempted to make off with the alien tech, but was stopped by Croakagy's pet and accidentally destroyed the spaceship's controls. To make it surface, Lenny sacrificed his alien device, making Maria impressed, to the point where she genuinely fell for him. Afte the aliens left with the last surviving water sample and the Atlantic Ocean was restored, Belka, Strelka and Lenny were punished by the former two's commander by being left behind on Cuba. There, Maria confessed her feelings to Lenny, and he forgave her, becoming an official couple with her.

Space Dogs: Family[]
In this spin-off TV series, Lenny only has a few appearances. Usually he babysits Belka's children or interacts with them in some other way, either helping them out or seeking their aid.
Space Dogs: Mysteries of the Cosmos[]
Lenny is one of the cosmonauts working on the Moon base with other Russian and American researchers, and is also the resident cook. It's revealed that he has a distinct reaction to earthquakes, which comes in handy when the crew first experiences a moonquake.
Trivia[]
- In the original Russian version of the films, the character is named "Venya". In the early draft of the first movie's script, however, he was named "Lyonya", which may be the reason for his name change in the English dub.
