Leo and Luna are two supporting protagonists of Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's.
They have very similar appearances, but very different personalities. Nevertheless, they share a close bond with each other.
Leo is voiced by Ai Horanai and Luna is voiced by Yuka Terasaki in the Japanese version. In the English version, they are both voiced by Cassandra Morris and later by Eileen Stevens.
Personality[]
Leo[]
Leo is a lively character, but is shown to get serious when the situation calls for it. Occasionally he will doubt his skill but his sister Luna always looks towards him for encouragement. He started off as cocky and sure of himself, but became more mature and careful as the series progressed.
He is also shown to be very perceptive in season 2 of Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's, as he immediately felt something was not right about Lester even when he had not acted suspicious yet. He is also shown to not hold grudges against those who harm his sister if they change their ways, such as with Aporia.
Luna[]
Luna is a very polite, kind and sweet young girl. She does occasionally criticize her brother, but deeply cares for him. She also has shown to be quite intelligent and calculating in her Duels.
Story[]
Leo lives together with Luna in the Tops residential area. They spend most of their time alone together as their parents are usually at work. They are educated via the internet, so they spend most of their time inside.
They encounter Yusei Fudo when Luna senses that he is unconscious after being shocked by officers and later crashing his Duel Runner near their residence. Yusei wanted to leave, feeling that he was putting them in danger, but Leo talked him into a Duel. After Yusei won, Luna and Leo manage to get him to stay for the night. They awake the next morning to find that Yusei had left after modifying their Duel Disks to fit their small arms.
Luna was then invited to participate in the Fortune Cup, and was set to Duel against Greiger, but Leo disguised himself as her and took her place in an attempt to protect her slightly frail body because she didn't feel like participating.
During a consolation Duel where Luna Dueled Professor Frank, both Leo and Luna were hypnotised. Leo later reveals to her that he had unconsciously given himself the task of protecting her while she protects the Duel Monsters Spirit World. Whilst Luna awakened from her trance soon after, Leo did not until the Duel ended.
Leo later Duels against Sayer, which is a test in order to determine if Leo possesses any sort of abilities similar to that of Luna. Despite summoning his ace monster, "Power Tool Dragon", he loses and passes out.
When the Dark Signers attacked, Luna and Leo are taken by Trudge to where Devack is waiting. Luna instead travels into the Duel Monsters Spirit World in order to free Ancient Fairy Dragon. Due to this, Leo bravely challenges Devack to a Duel in her place, as he is determined to fulfil his promise of protecting her.
Leo, after getting a strategy together, is able to push Devack back by destroying "Zeman the Ape King" with "Power Tool Dragon". He gets backed into a corner when Devack Summons "Earthbound Immortal Cusillu". After Luna comes back, she sees her brother in trouble and takes over for Leo as a way of making it up to him. She and Leo then win the Duel together.
Later, Leo, Luna, and Dexter go to a haunted forest were people are reported to disappear. Soon after they venture into the forest, Luna disappears. Leo then goes looking for her while Dexter goes to get Yusei. Leo finds a mansion and sees Luna in a window. A boy then appears, preventing Leo from entering. Leo Duels the boy, whose name is Haley, as Haley believes that Leo is there to hurt his sister. When Yusei arrives, Leo asks Yusei to help Luna and leave him fighting Haley. Yusei gets in and assists Luna. Luna wants to help the spirit of Claire, who is still in the house, and finds a special card. Leo defeats Haley, whom he finds out is just a spirit, and Luna is free.
When Lester enters Duel Academy, Leo gets very suspicious about him and tries to protect his sister from him. Lester does all he can so he can keep him separated from Luna. While stuck at school, later knowing it was a trick, he sets out to find Lester's mansion and discovers he Duels using a skateboard for Turbo Duels. After finding this out he asks Yusei to construct a similar device in order to challenge Lester. Yusei constructs a Dueling skateboard dubbed a Duel Board for Leo. He tries to gain some experience riding it, though he has difficulty at first. He then meets up with his sister, who is also trying to practice with the board Lester gave her. However, the skateboard Luna receives is controlled by Lester and forces her to Duel him. Leo then joins the Duel to protect his sister.
During the Duel, Leo identifies the mysterious Duelist as Lester. Luna quickly Summons "Ancient Fairy Dragon", but loses it to "Mekklord Emperor Skiel" and things begin looking grim. Leo Summons "Power Tool Dragon" to try and turn the Duel around, but Lester upgrades "Skiel Attack" and its effect lets him attacks directly. Despite the fact that Leo could not defeat Lester, Leo did succeed in making Lester so angry that he rushed to finish the Duel without capturing Luna's "Ancient Fairy Dragon", which was his goal all along. Leo is blown off the track and falls, only to be saved by the Crimson Dragon. The Dragon's sudden appearance surprises everyone, even their mysterious spectators. Lester then defeats Luna easily. After the Duel, the twins backtrack where Lester lived, only to find an empty space. No one else in Duel Academy seems to recall him either. Despite the fact that the Duel was one in which damage was real, Lester brushed off Luna's attack, but for some reason Leo seemed able to hurt him.
Both of them then join Team 5D's as pit crew and they celebrate their victory in the World Racing Grand Prix after Yusei defeats Aporia. However, their victory is short-lived as the Divine Temple falls from the sky.
Team 5D's then enter the Divine Temple in an attempt to stop the three Planetary Gears, however they and Jack Atlas are separated from the rest and are forced into a 3v1 Duel against Aporia with their lives on the line via devices attached to their hearts.
Aporia quickly inflicts of lot of damage to both Luna and Jack, knocking them both out. Leo, in his efforts to protect Luna, manages to Special Summon "Power Tool Dragon" and "Ancient Fairy Dragon" via "Double Ripple", which ultimately leads to his death. Luna, having seen her brother die in front of her, begins to cry and her Life Points begin slowly dropping due to Aporia's device.
Leo is eventually revived by the effect of his "Morphtronic Lantron" and finally awakens as a Signer. He then Summons "Life Stream Dragon", which saves Luna and Jack by increasing their Life Points to 2000 with its effect. Luna soon realizes that Leo's new dragon is the one she saw in the vision of the 5,000 year-old battle she saw. Luna, Leo, and Jack then defeat Aporia with their dragons and head for the Planetary Gear.
After the group meets back up, Leo and Luna give Yusei their signature cards: "Life Stream Dragon", "Power Tool Dragon" and "Ancient Fairy Dragon" in preparation for Yusei's Duel against Z-one.
About half a year after the battle with Z-one, the twins receive a letter from their parents. In it, they tell them that they want to live together, but for that to happen, they may have to leave New Domino City. Luna and her brother are unable to decide what to do because they want to stay with the gang. After Jack challenges Yusei to a Duel and he agrees, the twins along with Akiza and Crow watch the Duel. Leo and Luna end up moving to be together with their parents.
8 years later, Leo has a Duel Runner of his own, which he uses to transport his sister to school.
Deck[]
Leo plays a "Morphtronic" deck, with his signature card being "Power Tool Dragon". Before meeting Yusei, his main strategy was to use a "Magne-Lock" combination with two "Morphtronic Magnens", preventing his opponents from declaring an attack; he would then inflict effect damage on his opponent via cards such as "Morphtronic Datatron". Yusei advises Leo not to rely on this strategy, so he begins to utilize his "Gadget Hauler" to inclict large amounts of effect damage. With his "Power Tool Dragon", Leo enhances it's abilities via a series of Equip Spells, primairily "Double Tool C&D" and "Break! Draw!". Additionally, he uses cards such as "Power Converter" and "Damage Eraser" in order to regain Life Points. Upon becoming the sixth Signer during his Duel with Aporia alongside Luna and Jack Atlas, Leo is able to summon his Signer Dragon, "Life Stream Dragon".
Luna plays a "Spirit" deck, with her signature card being "Ancient Fairy Dragon". She mainly relies on defensive tactics via cards such as "Ancient Forest", which severely punishes her opponent for attacking her. With "Ancient Fairy Dragon's" special ability focusing on Field Spells, Luna protects her monsters using "Ancient Forest" and other cards such as "Synchro Monument". Other defensive plays include inflicting effect damage via "Fairy Wind" and "Oberon's Prank" in combination with the effect of her spirit partner, "Kuribon".
While Turbo Dueling, Luna focuses on summoning "Ancient Fairy Dragon" via using "Bird of Roses" to easily aquire materials for Synchro Summoning. She also runs a Burn strategy, inflicitng large amounts of effect damage on her opponents using cards such as "Ancient Sunshine" and "Fairy Archer".
