Leopold "Leo" Vermillion is a major character of the Black Clover franchise. He is a nobleman and the second son of the Clover Kingdom's House Vermillion, one of its royal families in the kingdom.
He is a 2nd Class Intermediate Magic Knight of the Crimson Lion Kings squad, as well as the younger brother of Fuegoleon and Mereoleona Vermillion (the captain and temporary captain of the squad, respectively), a cousin of Mimosa Vermillion, and a close friend and rival of Asta.
Leopold is voiced by Ken'ichirō Ōhashi in Japanese, and Austin Tindle in English (who also voices Ken Kaneki in Tokyo Ghoul, Shu Ouma in Guilty Crown, Karma Akabane in Assassination Classroom, Neito Monoma/Phantom Thief in My Hero Academia, Kiyotaka Ishimaru in Danganronpa: The Animation, Marco Bodt in Attack on Titan, and Alzack Connell in Fairy Tail).
Personality[]
Due to being a noble, Leopold appears to look down upon the lower class at first glance. Such as when he openly mocks the Golden Dawn squad for having Yuno in their ranks. In addition, Leopold is a boy with a high self-esteem who is confident in his own abilities where he does not hesitate to decline any assistance during a fight, even if it is from his own older brother.
However it turns out that he's the complete opposite. Leopold is revealed shortly after to truly be a kind, cheerful, loyal, and energetic young man much like Asta, who will always fight to protect the ones he cares about. He also has a very high sense of honor, showing great respect to those who are strong, even commoners, as shown when he declares Asta as his rival after witnessing the latter's capabilities. He is also a brash person who likes to act without properly thinking about his action.
Growing up in the shadow of his powerful siblings has left Leopold with feelings of self-doubt which occasionally cause him to hesitate in battle. He strives to become stronger than his siblings, and thus, unlike most nobles, uses his spare time for training in any way possible.
Trivia[]
- Seeing as how the two have the same personalities and goals, Leopold is basically Asta if he were born into a royal family.
