~ Lev to Abby on fear. |
Lev is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Dina) of the 2020 action-adventure video game The Last of Us Part II, serving as the secondary antagonist of Ellie's storyline and the deuteragonist of Abby's storyline.
He was a Seraphite who defected from the cult alongside his sister Yara, and the two befriended a survivor and W.L.F. soldier named Abby Anderson. Despite defecting, Lev maintained his beliefs until they are shaken following his confrontation with his mother on the Seraphites' island. After losing his sister, Lev's bond with Abby grows, which creates similarities to Joel and Ellie's relationship during their journey across the states.
He was voiced and motion-captured by Ian Alexander.
Biography[]
Background[]
Lev is a trans boy, who was born as "Lily" to an unnamed mother, and is the younger brother to his mother's first child Yara. He was born around 2025 on an island near Seattle, which was settled by the Seraphite cult. Due to the Seraphites' views and beliefs, Lev had a limited knowledge on the outside world, and though he believed in the cult, started to question them as he grew older. When he was chosen to marry an elder instead being chosen to become a warrior for the cult, Lev decided to change his name and cut his hair, which was against the cult's rules. His actions angered the community, and he decided to abandon the island and escape to Seattle with his sister, as the Seraphites wanted to punish him for disobeying them.
The Last of Us Part II[]
While running away from the Seraphites in Seattle, Yara is captured by Emily's group and Lev is able to save her with the assistance of the W.L.F. soldier Abby Anderson. The trio escape from the area as the infected arrive, and reach an abandoned trailer where Abby resets Yara's arm since it was shattered by Emily with a hammer. Lev remained with his sister until Abby returned the following day, helping them reach the aquarium where her friends Mel and Owen agree to help them. When Mel tells Abby that they need medical supplies to perform surgery, Lev advises that he and Abby can go across the Seraphites' bridges in Seattle to get to the liberation front's hospital. Lev slowly develops a bond with Abby during their travel, giving her advice to face her fear of heights while cross sky-scrappers. Abby manages to get supplies from the hospital, allowing Yara's surgery to be performed.
The following day, Owen asks Lev and Yara to join him and the others in leaving Seattle to Santa Barbara, as he has a lead that the Fireflies are regrouping there. Lev agrees with Yara on leaving Seattle, but argues with her since he wants to bring their mother along with them. Due to Yara not agreeing with the idea, Lev steals a boat and heads to Haven where he reunited with his mother, who admonishes him for his actions and attacks him. Lev is forced to defend himself and accidently kills his mother, and tearfully cries into the corner until he is saved by Yara and Abby, who traveled to the island to rescue him. During their escape, they are confronted by W.L.F. leader Isaac Dixon and his squad, but Yara sacrifices herself to allow them to leave Haven.
Mourning the loss of Yara, Lev and Abby return to the aquarium to leave Seattle, but find the corpses of Owen, Mel and the pet dog Alice. As Abby cries over her friends deaths, Lev discovers a marked map and shows it to Abby, who deduces that Ellie is there and has killed all of her friends to get revenge for Joel's murder. At the abandoned move theater, the two fight Ellie and Tommy until Lev convinces Abby to stop once he overhears Ellie tell Anderson that Dina is pregnant. The two then left Seattle on Owen's boat and managed to reach Santa Barbara, where Abby manages to contact someone on a radio that the Fireflies are regrouping on Catalina Island. While leaving, the two are captured and enslaved by the Rattlers until they are saved by Ellie, who arrived to continue her pursuit on Abby. Ellie would abandon her quest for revenge during her fight against Abby, allowing her and Lev to leave on boat.
