Salah, I wouldn't be where I am now if I wasn't able to compromise. Yeah, it's tricky. It's all tricky business. But, just look at what the Initiative's been able to do with the New Path and the Universal texts and all that. We could always go that way, raise them on the New Path. Or we could go for the trifecta and bring them up Jewish. If there's one thing I've learned, it's that the most important thing is that you're a good person. The ritual's just the dressing on top, at the end of the day. God cares more about what's inside. Whatever we choose, I know we'll be doing what's best for our baby.
~ Mary-Ann to Salah in "Breakfast For Dinner".
And you try too hard to make sure I don’t worry at all. I get it, you don’t want to cause any trouble for anyone, but sometimes it’s just too much, okay? It’s not like you’re barging into places and screaming 'CATER TO MY WHIMS.' You’ve got the self-control of a crazy aesetic out in the desert, you’ll deal with the Wolves when there’s no one else around to do it, you take care of stuff around the house before I even get a chance to see it, you don’t even take your food back when someone messes up your order…And I love you for all of that, but I’m your wife for heaven’s sake: I signed up to deal with you for the rest of my life because out of all the people in the world with issues I want to deal with yours. And when you don’t let me help, well…that makes me feel shitty because you do so much for me, and I feel like I should have done something so you don’t have to put up with the crap in the first place and…man, I am just babbling.
~ Mary-Ann to Salah in "Crossing The Streams".
But you do not have to become her. You do not have to walk in her shadow, and I have no doubt that she would have you standing at her side, not behind. She did not kill Moloch for her own glory: She struck down the Horned King because she loved you. Those around you want to see you become good and kind and strong, as she was. Any inbred barbarian with a magic sword can kill a god. It takes something more to be a good person in a cruel world.

You stand on the threshold of innocence and knowledge, passing through from the simplicity of one to the bare cruelty of the other. It is a test. My test. It is not easy.
~ The Serpent to Naomi in "Mud on the Carpet".

The Lewitt-Zairi Family are protagonists in the SCP Foundation mythos. They are comprised of Horizon Initiative members Mary-Ann Lewitt, Salah Zairi and their daughter Naomi. As members working for the Horizon Initiative, they are religious believers who fight the evil anomalies plaguing the world in the name of God.

They're the main protagonists in the "Et Tam Deum Petivi" canon, and play supporting roles in the "Verse of an Endless Song" series.

History[]

Origin[]

Salah Zairi was born in Pakistan around 1974, and Mary-Ann Lewitt was born in America around 1980. Both of them were raised by highly religious families, becoming devout followers of God and wishing to serve their divine purposes. In 1994, Salah relocated to Britain but as he felt isolated with no family and job, he decided to become a kamikaze and kill people in the name of God. Thankfully, he came to his senses before going too deep and eventually he met with Adnan, the Leader of Atibba al-Kitab and one of the three members of the Horizon Initiative's Tribunal, who introduced him to the organization and the anomalous world. Four years later, Salah graduated from university and wishing to protect humanity from anomalous threats became a full member of the HI's Shepherd Corps. Meanwhile, Mary-Ann joined the Army Field Artillery Branch so she could fight for the innocents.

Around 2000, after Project Malleus was formed, Salah moved to one of the HI's bases, Chapterhouse 3 in the United States. The following year, Mary-Ann was deployed to Afghanistan, where she fought alongside her fellow soldiers, but was left traumatized from the deaths of her comrades. After serving eight years in the army, Mary-Ann received an Honorable Discharge, and had given up on her faith for a time. Eventually, she began regaining her faith as readjusted her mental health and returned to school. She was soon contacted by the HI as they had been interested in recruiting her, and though she was reluctant to join in the end she agreed.

Aiding the Horizon Initiative[]

Salah was sent to bring Mary-Ann to the chapterhouse, and the two immediately became close friends. They joined the Shepherds and in the coming months fought alongside each other against many dangerous entities and cults, including the infamous Children of the Scarlet King and Are We Cool Yet?.

As they bonded together over the course of several missions, Mary-Ann eventually proposed to Salah for marriage which he gladly accepted. On February 2013, the couple held a small interfaith marriage at their Chapterhouse which was attended by all of their friends and colleagues, and even Adnan managed to arrive to congratulate Salah and Mary-Ann. Soon, on April 2013, Mary-Ann became pregnant, causing both of them to be overjoyed. To celebrate, the Initiative granted them a paid leave for them to go on a vacation, during which the couple discussed possible names for their child. In ensuing months, Mary-Ann stayed off from work, while Salah continued his job with the Wolves until they were disbanded after needlessly massacring an innocent village of secluded Mekhanites. At last, in December of 2013, Mary-Ann gave birth to their daughter Naomi, filling Salah with joy despite still being depressed over the Mekhanite incident.

On June of 2014, while Salah was away from home, Mary-Ann was approached by a pair of SCP Foundation agents, telling her she had to sacrifice her daughter to SCP-089 in order to prevent a future outbreak of SCP-610. Shocked and disgusted by this Mary-Ann tried to argue back, but the Foundation agents were determent and eventually convinced her to come with them and bring Naomi with them. As mother and daughter left to Site-36, Salah arrived home where he was attacked by an inkblood. Taking down the inkblood and torturing it, Salah learned that his wife and daughter had been taken by the Foundation and fearing for their safety he asked fellow HI operative Henry DeMontfort for help who in turned contacted Saturn Deer. While Salah and DeMontfort arrived to the site, Mary-Ann became inserted Naomi into SCP-089 before lightning the furnace. However, as the two Initiative agents fought through the Foundation forces, which had been infiltrated by the inkbloods, Mary-Ann came to her senses and immediately took her now-scarred daughter out of the statue, caressing her wounded child. Soon Salah and Henry broke through the door that led to SCP-089's chamber and reunited with Mary-Ann. Putting Naomi into stasis to heal her back at the Chapterhouse, Salah prepared to leave, but Mary-Ann decided to remain behind as she was unwilling to let SCP-089 exist and destroy many more families. Understanding this, Salah and DeMontfort made their way back their vehicle with Naomi, while Mary-Ann was confronted by the evil god Moloch. Moloch proceeded to beat and toss her around the chamber as he berated her for her life decisions, but Mary-Ann, using Salah's obsidian knife, slashed at him repeatedly. Eventually, Mary-Ann managed to kill Moloch, only for her to succumb to her wounds as well and dying soon after.

In the aftermath of this event, Mary-Ann was posthumously awarded a honorary Foundation Star while Salah resigned from active duty in the Shepherd Corps. In the following eight years, Salah raised Naomi all on his own, despite Mary-Ann's absence paining him, all the while continuing his work in the Initiative. On 2026, when Naomi was eight years old, the Initiative was alarmed by its mystics of an incoming worldwide catastrophe, causing its operatives to gather their families to the nearest chapterhouses to keep them safe. This included Salah who took his daughter out of school and went to Chapterhouse 3 where she began spending time with the other children, while Salah participated in a discussion about notifying the Foundation about what was about to happen. The apocalypse soon arrived on April 19th, and although the world didn't end the Veil of Secrecy broke, exposing the anomalous world for the first time in a long time, and everyday life became difficult. Salah was elevated to the post of a Tribunal member, replacing Adnan, while Naomi began working for the Serpent in the Wanderer's Library.

Naomi grew up to become a magical witch and the principal of the Hope Lake School, a wealthy school founded in 2036 after the HI retook the area from enemies, which taught the students thaumaturgic and anomalous subjects in addition to the normal ones. One day she began feeling that the Tzadikim Nistarim would soon gather as the end of the world approached. There she befriended several staff members like the golem Ahlama Bat Amir and her bodyguard Elihayo who assisted her in maintaining the school. Naomi would later get married to a viking-looking man and together conceive two daughters and a son.

Possible Endings[]

"When We Came Home"[]

During the destructive attack of the Scarlet King and his army on the universe, Naomi stood inside her school witnessing as the world around was ravaged to the ground. During the war, Mary-Ann became part of the army of the undead brought to life to fight in the war.

After the Scarlet King was defeated and reality was recreated by Isabel Wondertainment V and All-Death, the undead Mary-Ann reverted to a normal human. Being brought back to life, Mary-Ann was reunited with an old man Salah and her daughter Naomi, now cured of all of her scars. Naomi then introduced her mother to her husband and children, and with the entire family reunited they lived happily ever after.

"The Stars Do Not Wait For You"[]

When the reality bender known as SCP-1915 became the all destructive "Absence", Naomi prayed for the world to spared while the normalcy-preserving organization fought him. Eventually most of the world was eradicated, leaving an older Naomi the last of her family and exhausted of prayers. In the end she succumbed to despair as she began cursing at the Absence, before he went to destroy all life on earth.
