Li Ren is a minor posthumous character in RWBY. He is the father of Lie Ren, who served the Kuroyuri City as a hunter. He was later killed by the Nuckelavee when the latter attacked the village by holding it off long enough for his son to escape from it.
He was voiced by Kaiji Tang in the English version, and by Yoji Ueda in the Japanese Dub.
Biography[]
Li's backstory is mostly a mystery, but at some point in his life, he became a hunter and fell in love with a woman named An. The two would then marry each other and have a child named Lie.
During one of his missions as a hunter, his son would go to buy something for him for when Li returned home. While looking for it, Lie saw a group of children bullying a child, and after they saw Lie, he tried to run away. However, Lie would appear and scare off the bullies. Li then told his son that sometimes the worst action someone can make is taking no action at all. He then went to speak with the mayor of Kuroyuri.
That night, a Grimm called Nuckelavee attacked the village, and while fighting it, Li got injured and started having trouble walking. He then went to his house to inform his wife and child about the Grimm, telling them that they needed to leave the village.
After his wife was killed from debris, Li grabbed his son and tried to escape the village with Lie in his arms. However, he was unable to hold him long and after the Nuckelavee started approaching them, Li told his son to run while he fought off the Nuckelavee. Before he died, he told Lie to take action and that he and his mother loved him.
Lie was able to survive that night, and years later, he would kill the Nuckelavee, avenging his parents and everyone whom the Nuckelavee killed.
