Around the 2000s, Lily was born to Nancy Downs and unknown male patient, while she was confined to a mental hospital. Nancy then gave Lily to her therapist, Helen Schechner. Helen never told Lily who her real mother was.
Years later as a teenager, Lily and her adoptive mother Helen moved in with her new boyfriend Adam and his three sons. On her first day at a new high school, Lily suddenly starts her period and is teased by Timmy, a boy in her class. She then befriended aspiring witches Frankie, Tabby, and Lourdes. The next day at school, after being insulted by Timmy, Lily telekinetically pushes him into the lockers earning them both detention. However, Lily skips detention after Frankie, Tabby, and Lourdes telepathically tells her to leave which confirms her to be their fourth coven member and invite her to join their coven, to which she agrees. As a result, they call the corners and freeze time. To seek revenge on Timmy, the girls cast a respect spell on him. The next day, Timmy behaves kindly, as a result of the spell. They continue to experiment with their magic, including levitation and necromancy with a Ouija board. When Timmy is at Lily's home for a project with Jacob, one of Adam's sons, he admits to the girls that he had sex with Isaiah, Jacob's elder brother, and that he is bisexual. Later, Lily places a love spell on Timmy, using his sweatshirt, and the two kiss as Lily had grown an crush on him since he turned kinder. However the next morning, during class, the teacher tells the class that Timmy committed suicide the night before. Lily tells Frankie, Tabby, and Lourdes about the love spell she cast on Timmy. Disappointed, Frankie, Tabby, and Lourdes unfriend her and bind Lily themselves from witchcraft. After some nightmares, Lily suspects Adam to be dangerous and asks her mother for them to move out, but she does not agree. In hopes to find anything against Adam, she searches his office only to find her own adoption papers while Helen admits to her that Lily is actually her patient's child. After Timmy's funeral, Adam shapeshifts into Helen and tells Lily to give up her magic, which Lily refuses. Adam knocks Lily unconscious and she awakens in a forest at night with Adam, who is part of a Pagan cult and confesses that he murdered Timmy and threatens to kill her too if she does not give her powers to him. Frankie, Tabby, and Lourdes arrive to save Lily after the ghost of Timmy tells them Lily is in trouble through their Ouija board. The girls then call the corners and cast a spell that burns Adam to death. Frankie, Tabby, and Lily reconcile and Lily goes to a mental asylum to meet her birth mother who is revealed to be Nancy Downs.
