Lin Daiyu

Lin Daiyu

Lin Daiyu is one of the major protagonists in the 18th-century Chinese classic novel Dream of the Red Chamber by the late Cao Xueqin, and its multiple adaptations. She is a beautiful young woman of physical frailness who is somewhat prone to occasional melancholy.

She is portrayed by the late Chen Xiaoxu.

History[]

Lin Daiyu is a fairy flower, which was later embodied as Daiyu to pay back her "debt of tears" return to Jia Baoyu, and gave life to the flower Daiyu, Lin and Jia are the only two characters in the fairy world.

Born in a Suzhou scholar-type official, Lin Ruhai and Lady Jia Min of the Rongguo house, Daiyu was raised by her parents in Yangzhou, near her home, where she received a good education building. She has a natural affinity for literature and has learned very well. Her childhood tutor was Jia Yucun.

In childhood, a Buddhist monk had proposed to take her away so that she would not be freed from her tragic fate. This is of course rejected. She has a natural physique and is weak, has been taking medicine and tonic from very young age, when she is a bit slick and constructive and elegant aesthetic results. Daiyu lost her mother when she was six years old; she was summoned to the provincial capital city shortly after, with her maternal grandmother, a strong Jia clan matriarch, Grandmother Jia. She immediately associates with her appearance and her grandmother's favorite Jia Baoyu and many of the girl cousins ​​in the house. Jiayu's father died a few years after entering the Rongguo House, leaving a complete orphan. She is one of Grandmother Jia's most beloved grandchildren.

Daiyu is an emotional girl, prone to extreme mood swings and melancholy spells. She was described as ill from an childhood; in fact, when she was first introduced to describe her couplet "with a heart like Bi Gan's, yet even more intelligent; and with an illness like Xi Zi, yet even more beautiful".
