Link is the tritagonist of the 2024 action-adventure video game The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.

He is a young swordsman who saves Princess Zelda from an Echo of Ganon, only to be pulled into a rift and held prisoner in the Still World.

Biography[]

Link is a boy from Suthorn Village who was among a group of children that got caught in one of many dangerous rifts appearing across Hyrule. Although the children escaped unharmed, the experience changed all of them, making almost every child lose their speech, spirit, and memories of being taken by the rift. Link however was somehow able to retain his mood and recall the incident with the rift, but was still rendered mute like the others. Over time, Link grew into a highly skilled and hardworking swordsman who had the ability to sense where rifts would appear, something he would use to save people in danger of them and the monsters they would spawn. He also assisted a researcher named Lueburry in developing new effective weapons against rift monsters until word got out that Zelda, the princess of Hyrule, had been kidnapped by a large blue monster called Ganon and made it his mission to go rescue her.

Link was given a new sword and additional weapons by Lueburry before eventually tracking Ganon to Suthorn Ruins where he fought and defeated the monster. Unfortunately, as Link was about to free Zelda from captivity, a huge rift suddenly opened beneath his feet and began to pull him into it. He was only able to damage the crystal Zelda was trapped in with an arrow before the rift consumed him completely and sent the young hero into the Still World; a strange realm where everything from his world would gradually disappear. Link's actions allowed Princess Zelda to break free of her crystal prison and go on her own adventure to save him along with Hyrule. Meanwhile, an ancient entity called Null, who sought Hyrule's destruction, created Echoes of Link in an attempt to stop Zelda and her new ally Tri from closing big rifts that threaten to consume the land. After the duo successfully disposed of the rift in Hyrule Castle Town, Null tried to attack Zelda directly, but the real Link appeared at that moment to defend her as she teleported to safety.

Link was taken prisoner by Null and later received the Triforce of Courage after his captor unintentionally caused all three pieces of the sacred wish-granting Triforce (also known as the Prime Energy) to scatter. Null attempted to claim Link's piece before the swordsman is rescued by Princess Zelda who possessed the Triforce of Wisdom. They both worked together to forcefully removed the Triforce of Power from Null's grasp and reassemble the Triforce completely before using its power to destroy the villainous entity once and for all.

Trivia[]

  • This version of Link is the only one besides his "Era of the Wilds" incarnation to have an explanation for his usual silence.
  • Although the rift has rendered him mute, Link can be seen chatting with the King of Hyrule during the game’s ending.
  • It was theorised that this version of Link could actually the "Hero of Legend" incarnation, given the fact that the game uses the same engine as the switch remake of Link's Awakening and the map of Hyrule is identical to A Link to the Past. However, this would not explain differences to their backstories or why the rifts did not appear in previous games. This was eventually debunked when the game's setting was confirmed to be between Tri-Force Heroes and The Legend of Zelda on the official website.
    • However, it was revealed that the game takes place in the "Downfall Timeline", in which other games involving "Hero of Legend" incarnation of Link occur.
