Link, also known as the Hero of Legend, is the titular main protagonist of the 1991 action-adventure video game The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and its 1993 sequel The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening.
He is a young boy descended from the Knights of Hyrule. After watching his uncle leave in the middle of the night, the curious Link follows him to Hyrule Castle. There, his uncle is attacked by the castle guards and uses his dying breath to task Link with protecting Princess Zelda from the evil sorcerer Agahnim. With his mission clear, Link teams up with wise man Sahasrahla in order to find the legendary Master Sword and stop Agahnim from using Zelda's power to release the dread warlord Ganon from imprisonment.
In the Game Boy Advance port of A Link to the Past, he is voiced by Fujiko Takimoto, who also voiced the Hero of Time in Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, and their respective remakes, the Hero of the Minish in The Minish Cap, the Hero of the Four Sword in Four Swords, and the New Hero of Hyrule in Tri Force Heroes. In the remake of Link's Awakening, he is voiced by Mitsuki Saiga, who also voiced the New Hero of Hyrule in A Link Between Worlds.
Hyrule Historia and early English printings of Encyclopedia state that this is the same Link as the one who stars in The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages. However, the original Japanese version of Encyclopedia, as well as later revisions of the English version of Encyclopedia, heavily indicate that the Link in the Oracle duology is a different character entirely. This conflicting information leaves the relation of each protagonist unclear.
