“ | I hereby recognize our newest royal engineer... Link! Work hard, for we all rely on you, Link. | „ |
~ Princess Zelda at Link's graduation. |
Link, also known as the Hero of Trains, is the main protagonist of the 2009 action-adventure game The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks.
He is young apprentice from Aboda Village in New Hyrule, who is being mentored by Alfonzo to become a train engineer. After stumbling into a conspiracy in New Hyrule Castle set in motion by the corrupt Chancellor Cole and witnessing Princess Zelda's body being stolen, Link teams up with Zelda's ghost to restore the fabled Spirit Tracks and return peace to New Hyrule.
He was voiced by Yuki Kodaira.
Biography[]
Link is a little boy who lives in Aboda Village with Niko when Spirit Tracks, which takes place many years after the Hero of Winds discovered the new Hyrule, is released. He is a student of Alfonzo, a master engineer who has aided him in his quest to become a Royal Engineer. Link receives a diploma from Zelda for achieving this goal, along with a note instructing him to meet with her to discuss her concerns over the enigmatic Chancellor Cole and the strange Spirit Tracks. Link smuggles Zelda out of the castle, where they meet Alfonzo, who takes them by train to the Tower of Spirits.
The trio crash-lands, but as the Spirit Tracks start to disappear, the chancellor ambushes them and attacks the group. While Zelda's spirit is split from her body, which is taken by Cole's apprentice Byrne, Link and his master are both knocked out. Back in Hyrule Castle, Link awakens to find Zelda transformed into a ghost, visible only to Link. He decides to assist Anjean in taking down Chancellor Cole and recovering her body in the process after speaking with her in the Tower of Spirits.
A Phantom Knight confronts Link after he and Zelda climb the Tower of Spirits to get a Rail Map, but Zelda charges at the Phantom just in time to take control of its body. After that, Link and Zelda set off on their quest to rebuild the Tower of Spirits and the Spirit Tracks, traversing the overworld with the help of the Spirit Train that Anjean has given Link. Princess Zelda has a Phantom's armor to help Link whenever he goes back to the Spirit Tower to get another Rail Map. Link and Zelda develop a strong bond as they continue their journey together and grow to know one another better.
Link will help Princess Zelda retrieve her body from Malladus after which the two will battle the Demon King, who has now seized control of Chancellor Cole's body. With the Lokomo Sword, Link and Zelda strike Malladus one more time, and shortly after, Anjean and the rest of the Lokomos ascend into the heavens. Anjean asks Link for assistance as they depart and leaves Princess Zelda in charge of keeping an eye on the area. Then, as Link and Zelda watch the Lokomos go, they can be seen holding hands.
The youthful hero stays in Hyrule to fulfill Anjean's wish, where he continues to be either an engineer or a warrior, depending on which Link chooses, unlike other instances where Link leaves the land after saving it. This is demonstrated when Princess Zelda waves out the window from her office chair after hearing the whistle of a train or the clanging of swords.
