Link, also known as the Hero of Twilight or Wolf Link in his Twilit form, is the main protagonist of the 2006 action-adventure game The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.
He is a teenage farm hand and the descendant of the Hero of Time, who lives in the quiet settlement of Ordon Village. After his childhood friend, Ilia, and all of the village's children are abducted by King Bulblin, Link teams up with a mysterious imp named Midna to rescue them.
Biography[]
Born in Ordon village, Link grew up training with swords and riding his horse Epona. When the blacksmith of his village made a sword to be presented to Princess Zelda, Link agreed to deliver it but was ambushed by Shadow Beasts. He gets taken to the underground of Hyrule Castle where Midna rescues him. They go on to meet Princess Zelda who explains that Hyrule is covered in darkness as Zant, king of the Twilight Realm, has taken over Hyrule. Link and Midna go to Ordon village where they free the light spirit, Faron. Link is granted the hero's tunic by Faron and meets up with the Hero's Shade, who teaches him a lost art. Link and Midna also go to a great tree to defeat a corrupted monkey.
They get a Fused Shadow fragment from it. In their journey, they defeat numerous monsters, save the children that were captured and taken from Ordon Village, save all the light spirits and collect all Fused Shadows. When the last Light Spirit is freed and the last Fused Shadow is collected, Zant appears and throws Midna into the Light Spirit and curses Link into a wolf. Link and Midna go to Zelda, who sacrifices herself to save Midna from harm. Upon leaving the castle, a barrier surrounds Hyrule Castle. Link and Midna go to the Lost Woods where they get the Master Sword, which frees Link from his Wolf form and places his curse into a crystal. With the power of the Master Sword, Midna can use the crystal to turn Link into a wolf whenever he wants and vice versa.
Link and Mida travel to Gerudo Valley's prison tower, where the Mirror of Twilight is kept. With the Mirror of Twilight, Link and Midna would be able to travel to the Twilight Realm and defeat Zant. However, upon climbing to the top of the tower, they discover Zant has shattered the mirror and placed its pieces across Hyrule. Link and Midna travel across 3 different places in Hyrule to gather the shards. Upon gathering all the shards, Link and Midna assemble the mirror and enter the Twilight Realm. They free the inhabitants while finding Zant.
Upon meeting Zant, they discover Ganondorf gave him the power to usurp Midna in exchange for assistance in conquering Hyrule. Upon Zant's defeat, he drops the Fused Shadows which Midna collects and uses to kill Zant. They go to Hyrule Castle where Midna destroys the barrier surrounding Hyrule Castle with the Fused Shadows. If the player has learned the first 6 hidden techniques from the Hero's Shade and found the last whispering stone, they may encounter the Hero's Shade right next to the barrier and learn the final hidden skill.
Upon reaching the throne room, Ganondorf is seen sitting on his throne, proclaiming that he is chosen by the gods as he has the Triforce of Power. Ganondorf transforms into Ganon and fights Link. After Ganon is defeated, Midna revives Zelda before teleporting her and Link to Hyrule Field before engaging Ganondorf, now in his humanoid form, with the Fused Shadows. Link and Zelda look at Hyrule Castle to see it exploding. Ganondorf appears on his horse while crushing the Fused Shadow helmet that Midna wore.
The Light Spirits of Hyrule summon Epona and give Zelda a Bow of Light alongside Light Arrows. Link follows Ganondorf on Epona while Zelda shoots him with Light Arrows. After getting knocked down his horse, Ganondorf and Link engage in a sword duel culminating in Link impaling Ganondorf through a glowing wound in his chest. After the people of Hyrule settle down after the events of Zant's and Ganondorf's attack on Hyrule, Link, Zelda and Midna say farewell. Before Midna leaves Hyrule, she destroys the Mirror of Twilight as she goes back to the Realm of Twilight. Link places the Master Sword back into its pedestal before riding with Epona to somewhere else.
