The synopsis of Link from The Legend of Zelda's Era of the Wilds saga.
Early Life[]
Link was born to an unnamed father. His father was an accomplished knight. He may have came from Hateno Village, as the house towards the southwest of the village originally belonged to someone who went to service at Hyrule Castle before the Calamity and never returned. Despite being a child, he still possessed a great amount of skill, being capable of besting fully grown adults. He also spent a great amount of time at Zora's Domain, where he became close friends with the compassionate Princess Mipha, who fell in love with him. He also taught other Zora how to fight. These Zora would grow up to become some of the best Zora warriors. However, he did not want to be the Hero of Hyrule. Unfortunately for him, destiny had other plans and it was when he was a child that he managed to draw the fabled Master Sword. With what he believed to be a burden of wielding the Master Sword, Link stopped speaking. When he grew older, he enlisted in the Hyrulean army and became the most skilled knight in the army. During his time as a knight, the kingdom began to prepare for the foreseen return of the monster known as Calamity Ganon.
Princess Zelda's Appointed Knight[]
Champions of Hyrule[]
The Kingdom of Hyrule excavated the mountains of Hyrule where they discovered the Divine Beasts and the guardians. The Divine Beasts and guardians were a creation of the Sheikah Tribe designed to combat Calamity Ganon. During the last time that Calamity Ganon attacked Hyrule, the wielder of the Master Sword and the woman with the blood of the goddess Hylia sealed him with the help of an army of guardians along with the Divine Beasts. So, the king decided that Hyrule would follow in their ancestor's footsteps and use the same method. While the Sheikah began testing the guardians to make sure they could defend the kingdom, the Divine Beasts needed special warriors to pilot them. They picked the pilots based on the locations of where the Divine Beasts were excavated out of.
Divine Beast Vah Ruta, resembling an elephant, was excavated out of the Lanayru Wetlands by Zora's Domain, with Princess Mipha being chosen as its pilot. Divine Beast Vah Rudania, resembling a lizard, was excavated out of the Eldin Mountains by Goron City, with the friendly giant Daruk being chosen as its pilot. Divine Beast Vah Naboris, resembling a camel, was excavated out of the Gerudo Desert by Gerudo Town, with the elegant Chief Urbosa being chosen as its pilot. Divine Beast Vah Medoh, resembling an eagle, was excavated out of the Hebra Mountains near Rito Village, with the arrogant Revali being chosen as its pilot. The Divine Beasts' names were intriguing, as they were named after famous heroes of their respective races. Vah Ruta was named after Princess Ruto, Vah Rudania was named after Chief Darunia, Vah Naboris was named after Nabooru and Vah Medoh was likely named after Medli. The kingdom dubbed the pilots Champions, with Link becoming a member after an incident. It was during a testing of one of the excavated guardians that it went haywire and started attacking people with its deadly laser beam. Fortunately Link grabbed a pot lid and deflected the laser beam right back at the guardian, destroying it. With his skill apparent, Link was chosen as not only a Champion, but also as the personal knight and bodyguard of Princess Zelda.
But there was another problem. Princess Zelda was said to inherit a special power that would be used to seal away the Calamity. But Zelda had shown no signs of inheriting the power, showing more interest in the Divine Beasts and guardians. No matter how much she prayed, she was unable to awaken her special power. This angered her father, King Rhoam, who viewed her as not trying hard enough. Zelda continually tried to defend herself to no avail, frustrating her. And her frustrations only grew once Link was assigned as her knight. According to Urbosa, Zelda saw Link as a living reminder as her own failures, as both were two Hylians part of the Champions, close to royalty and yet Link was a prodigy while Zelda still had no signs of power. While Link was still her bodyguard, she did not treat him kindly. She was cold and distant, making snide comments about Link being not having a mind of his own and asking if he can hear the voice in the sword. When Link followed her around Hyrule, she continually yelled at him for doing his job of keeping her safe. She even tried to spend time in Gerudo Town, where no men, "voe" in native Gerudo language, were allowed. Hilariously enough, Urbosa gave Link clothes to disguise himself as a woman, "vai" in native gerudo language, so that he could continue watching over her. Despite all this, Link did not speak in his defense. This continued for some time, until something changed.
Budding Friendship with Zelda[]
The Yiga Clan are a clan of former Sheikah who worship Calamity Ganon and were thus firmly against Hyrule's efforts to avert the Calamity. Thus, with Zelda and Link as two of the most important people needed to stop the Calamity, efforts were made to eliminate them. It was during one of these attempts that the dynamic between Link and Zelda changed. Three Yiga footsoldiers attempted to kill Zelda while she was in the desert, with her being unable to escape after a lengthy chase. One attempted to decapitate Zelda with their weapon, though they were disarmed and killed by Link, who forced the other two to flee. It was then that Zelda began to view Link differently.
She had been rude to him all this time, yet without a second thought he defended her. This made her stop treating Link so horribly. She began smiling around him more, got him involved with her research and spoke about her struggles to awaken her sealing power. Link in turn began to open up about himself. He actually spoke to Zelda and told her how with so many eyes on him due to him being her knight and wielding the Maser Sword, he deemed it necessary to silently bear any burden. A musician in the castle took notice of Zelda's growing affections for Link, who would make songs that would be played a century later. But these times of bonding would reach their end.
The Great Calamity[]
Zelda's 17th birthday approached, which would have made her an adult. It was that day that she and Link would have to hike up to the top Mount Lanayru to the Spring of Wisdom for another attempt to unlock her sealing power. It was during that day that all the Champions traveled with Zelda to the base of the mountain, though only Link accompanied her to the top. And yet Zelda's prayer failed again. After getting back to the base, the Champions tried to comfort Zelda. As Mipha was going to give her some advice on how she uses her own power, they felt the ground shake. Revali flew up into the sky to survey the land and saw a purple mist surrounding Hyrule Castle, realizing that it was Calamity Ganon. He reported it to the group who prepared to fight. Daruk ordered the Champions to make their way to their Divine Beasts, with him saying that Link had to make his way to the castle. Urbosa ordered Zelda to get to a safe place, but she refused to abandon them.
As Link and Zelda made their way to the castle, they came across a horrifying sight. The guardians, machines created for the sole purpose of defending Hyrule from the Calamity, were corrupted by the Calamity and attacking everyone in sight. Most of the people in Castle Town were obliterated by the guardians as well as their homes. The surrounding settlements did not stand a chance with the guardians' speed and laser powers being so unrelenting. As for the people in Hyrule Castle, nobody survived the guardian onslaught. Link and Zelda were forced to flee Castle Town, with as many survivors as they could find following them. The Divine Beasts did not fair any better. They had been taken over by the Calamity, with all of the Champions being killed as well. As Link and Zelda and the survivors fled, Zelda fell to the ground and had an emotional breakdown: she had failed to unlock her sealing power, the Calamity had taken over the guardians and killed her friends and father and her kingdom was under an attack like no other. Link held her as she cried.
The group then arrived at Fort Hateno in East Necluda, with soldiers preparing to fight the guardians. Link joined the soldiers in combat, with him being responsible for destroying most of the guardians that attacked. But there were too many. Mortally wounded, Zelda told Link to run and save himself, but Link refused to leave the princess to the mechanical creations. As one aimed its laser at Link, Zelda stepped in front of him and raised her hand to the guardian, unleashing a blast of yellow light that disabled the rest of the guardians at the fort. With the sight of Zelda safe, Link collapsed in her arms as exhaustion took over. Zelda looked at her knight, her friend, as he died.
Awakening[]
After hearing a female voice telling him to open his eyes, Link woke up in a room and emerged from a small pool, with no knowledge of who or where he was. It was then that he heard the voice call him "Link." He walked around the room and saw a terminal that contained a small device known as the Sheikah Slate. After obtaining the Slate, the room opened up to a larger room containing chests with an Old Shirt and well-worn trousers. After putting on the clothes, the larger room opened its door to reveal the outside. The voice spoke to Link once more and told him that he was "the light that must shine upon Hyrule once again." He climbed out of the room, saw grass and ran to the edge of a cliff overlooking the area where he was, full of forests, ruins, snowy slopes and an old cathedral. After taking in his surroundings, he noticed an old man looking at him, before turning around to walk back to his campfire. Link walked to him, where he asked the man who he is and where they both were. The man called himself a humble resident and reveals that the area the two of them were in is called the Great Plateau, the birthplace of the Kingdom of Hyrule.
After walking around and taking in his surroundings, he heard the voice again. It told him to go to the point marked on the slate. Along the way, he encountered a few bokoblins, pig-like monsters, with weak swords, shields, bows and arrows. Luckily with a few large sticks, a spare woodcutter's axe near the Old Man's campfire and muscle memory, Link was able to disarm and defeat them, taking their weapons for himself. It was then that Link discovered a cool function of the Sheikah Slate: the ability to store materials and weapons in the slate. Link would also come across a pair of Hylian Trousers, offering more warmth and durability than the well-worn trousers. After getting to the point, Link noticed what the point was: a terminal similar to the one in the room he awoke in, but in a large rock. After putting the slate into the terminal, the terminal told Link that the Sheikah Towers were activated and to watch for falling rocks. Before Link could properly process the message, the ground began to shake around him and all around Hyrule, knocking him to the ground. All around Hyrule, sheikah towers began to rise out of the ground. Animals, monsters and people felt the ground shake and saw the towers rise. The tower even updated Link's map, giving him a complete map of the Great Plateau. It also showed Link that the room he awoke in was called the Shrine of Resurrection. Unfortunately, Calamity Ganon also took notice and realized that Link had survived. Once Link regained his footing, he heard the voice once again. It told him to remember and that he had been asleep for 100 years. As Link looked towards Hyrule Castle, Link noticed a purple misty monster circling the castle. The voice warned him that once the mist, a beast, regained its true form, the world would face its end. The voice then told Link to hurry.
After descending the Great Plateau Tower, the Old Man surprised Link by paragliding down to him. He asked Link if he noticed the castle and what he saw. Link told the Old Man that he saw a monster circling the castle and that a voice told him to hurry. The Old Man explained to Link that the monster he saw is called Calamity Ganon. It was responsible for the destruction of Hyrule 100 years ago. When asked if he intended to make his way to the castle, Link confirmed that he did. The Old Man admired Link's courage, but informed him that the Great Plateau's height would make descending without any special gear suicide. Fortunately the paraglider in the Old Man's possession was perfect for the job. He told Link that the nearby technological building to the northeast of the plateau, a Sheikah Shrine, has been activated, no doubt due to the activation of the sheikah towers. If Link completed the shrine, he would give Link the paraglider. So Link made his way to do so. The shrine in question's name is called the Oman Au Shrine, "Magnesis Trial." Link made his way to the shrine, where upon entering, a new voice calling itself Oman Au, instructed him to place the Sheikah Slate into a terminal. After doing so, the shrine dropped a droplet of Sheikah technology into the slate, thus giving the slate the ability of magnesis: moving metal inanimate objects. Link used it to complete the puzzles of the shrine, where at the end he found a Sheikah monk behind what looked to be ethereal glass. After touching the glass with the slate, the glass was obliterated into harmless shards. The being introduced itself as Oman Au and congratulated Link on his completion of the trial. He rewarded Link a spirit orb that went into his body, much to the confusion of Link. Oman Au then prayed that the goddess smile upon Link, after which he faded away into blue dust.
Link exited the shrine to see the Old Man waiting for him. The Old Man asked Link if he received anything in the shrine, to which Link told him of Oman Au and the spirit orb. Link then asked the Old Man for the paraglider but the Old Man declined. He told Link that he would give it to him if he completed the other shrines around the plateau, much to the annoyance of Link. As compensation, he then told Link that the slate had the technique of fast travel. Link tested it by teleporting to the top of the Great Plateau Tower, though to his shock the old man had beaten him there. When asked about this, the Old Man simply replied that he had secrets. He then told Link to use the scope function of the Sheikah Slate to mark the shrines on the map of the slate. There was one to the east of the plateau in the Eastern Abbey. This one, the Ja Baij Shrine, "Bomb Trial,"[1] gave the slate the ability to produce both spherical and cubical remote bombs. This one also gave Link a spirit orb at the end. It was also at this area that Link witnessed Decayed Guardians awaken with the intent to kill him. Though just like 100 years ago, Link using a shield to parry their lasers proved to be able to destroy them. There was another shrine to the south of the plateau. This one, the Owa Daim Shrine, "Stasis Trial," gave the slate the ability to freeze time on inanimate objects. At the end, Link once again gained a spirit orb. The final one was to the west in the snowy region of the plateau. To survive the cold, Link was forced to rely on cold-resistant meals. On the way to that shrine, Link climbed to the top of Mount Hylia where he saw the Old Man calmly observing the landscape. As a reward for his bravery in reaching the top of the summit, he gave Link a Warm Doublet to keep stave off the cold. Link then made his way to the final shrine, Keh Namut Shrine, "Cryonis Trial." This gave the slate the ability to create ice blocks in bodies of water and once again Link was rewarded a spirit orb. After exiting, Link saw the Old Man again. He told Link he would give him his paraglider if he met in the one spot on the plateau where the shrines meet to form an x. He then dissolved in ethereal light similar to the monks. Link opened his map to figure out where the Old Man meant and found the location: the Temple of Time. Link made his way to the temple and discovered a goddess statue. It was then he found out that if he prayed to the goddess statue, he could trade four spirit orbs at a time for improvements to his health or stamina. After doing so, the Old Man called out to Link from the top of the temple to meet him up there. Link climbed to the top of the temple, where the Old Man had news for him.
The Old Man congratulated Link on completing the shrines. He then told Link that it was time he revealed his true identity: King Rhoam Bosphoramus Hyrule, the last leader of Hyrule. He explains to Link that Calamity Ganon originally took the form of a man, though through the usage of malice, the energy that Ganon's monsters emit, transformed him into the monster surrounding Hyrule Castle. To fight the monster, Hyrule excavated machines created by their ancestors to fight Calamity Ganon before. Hyrule chose four skilled warriors to pilot the biggest machines, the Divine Beasts, to fight the Calamity. These warriors were called Champions. A princess commanded them, along with a skilled knight at her side. With them, victory should have been guaranteed. Unfortunately, Ganon was cunning and turned the machines against them using malice that infected the machines and damaged all those who touched it. The Champions lost their lives along with everyone in the castle. The knight was gravely wounded defending the princess. But the princess survived to face Ganon alone, sealing themselves in the castle. King Rhoam told Link that the princess, Zelda, was his own daughter and Link was the knight who defended her till the very end. King Rhoam then told Link that Zelda's power is running out and then nothing would stop Calamity Ganon from destroying the world. He then asked Link to help Zelda destroy Ganon, to which Link agreed. Because Link was to weak to head directly to the castle at that point, King Rhoam to Link to seek out Lady Impa in Kakariko Village. He gave Link instructions on where to find her and gave Link the paraglider. With the mission given to Link, he disappeared and told Link to hurry.
A Ruined Kingdom[]
After processing the information given to him by the king, Link used the paraglider to descend from the top of the temple as a test. After using it successfully, Link went to the edge of the plateau and jumped off. After landing successfully on the ground, Link took in his surroundings: the ruined Hyrule Kingdom.
Hyrule Kingdom[]
Hyrule is comprised of eight main areas: Hebra, Gerudo, Faron, Necluda, Lanayru, Akkala, Eldin and Central Hyrule. As the areas differ between elevation and landscape, there are multiple different weather conditions. The Gerudo region is a desert, so during the day it is sweltering hot while at night it is freezing cold, with the top of its highlands being extremely cold. The Hebra region is even colder than that all the time, along with plenty of mountains and snowfields. Eldin is a volcanic region, with some areas being so hot the temperature cannot be properly recorded. Faron is a rain forest like area, with it being humid and usually drenched with rain and deadly thunderstorms. Lanayru is a wetland region, with it being relatively cool, though there is Mount Lanayru with around the same coldness of the Hebra region and the Gerudo Highlands. Akkala, Necluda and Central Hyrule are relatively normal in terms of weather patterns, with hills and lakes.
Hyrule also has plenty of population centers. Throughout the land there are a series of stables, dedicated to sheltering people as well as boarding horses. There are plenty of wild horses traveling in packs around Hyrule, with someone stealthy enough being able to sneak onto one and register a horse at the stables. They are all connected, with the staff being able to transport horses between them if needed. The staff there take permanent residence, along with other people who welcome all travelers. There are also seven and later eight villages in Hyrule: Kakariko Village, which Link was on his way to, Hateno Village, Zora's Domain, Goron City, Gerudo Town, Rito Village, Lurelin Village and Tarrey Town. Tarrey Town is a town that during his quest Link would help build by recruiting people all across Hyrule to help build it, provide shopping and live there, with him even attending a wedding there. Around Hyrule, tiny creatures called Koroks hide. If Link found them, they would reward him with Korok seeds, which could be given to the large Korok, Hestu, who uses them as fillings in his maracas. As thanks, he could add more spaces in the Sheikah Slate to carry more melee weapons, shields and bows. There are even Great Fairies located across Hyrule, with them being able to improve the durability of clothes in exchange for monster parts.
The activation of the Great Plateau Tower activated plenty of other Sheikah Towers. The towers also had the ability to update the map of the Sheikah Slate, such as the Akkala Tower updating the map of the Akkala region. Unfortunately with the towers being in the ground for so long and nobody knowing about them, plenty of hazards surrounded them. Some towers were surrounded by environmental challenges, like the Hebra Tower being surrounded by large ice blocks. But more often than not, the towers were surrounded by dangerous monsters.
Throughout Hyrule there are plenty of monsters that make their homes there. Bokoblins form groups where they make a monster camp and control the surrounding area. Moblins, essentially larger bokoblins, and lizalfos, lizard monsters around the size of an average Hylian, occasionally join the monster camps, though most prefer to live with their own kind. Skeleton versions of these monsters come out at night. Keese, large bats, come out at night in small groups or swarms. Wizzrobes float around ruins with a sinister smile. Hinoxes, giant cyclopes, sleep all day and night. Taluses, large stone monsters, remain in disguise as regular boulders. Moldugas swim through the sand desert and attack anything that makes vibrations in the sand. Guardians still inhabit the world, with them patrolling areas and attacking all living beings they can find. And the most feared monsters in Hyrule, lynels, centaur-like monsters with weapons they forged themselves, live in solitude within their territories. Interestingly, all the monsters when killed explode into malice, meaning that Calamity Ganon created them with the same substance used to control the guardians. And an event known as the Blood Moon occasionally occurred at midnight, resurrecting monsters that were killed.
Sheikah Shrines[]
The Sheikah Shrines were located all across Hyrule, with the Sheikah Slate being required to access them. But the shrines were all part of a challenge of sorts. Some shrines were hidden away behind walls, in the ground, or being blocked by people with the puzzle being how to get to the shrine itself. But the rest of the shrines were out in the open, waiting for someone to access them. The shrines themselves had three different possibilities of what was inside. The first was that there nothing but a monk ready to give Link their blessing. The second was puzzles that required analytical thinking along with either the Sheikah Slate or items found throughout Hyrule. And the third was combat trials that forced Link to fight a Guardian Scout that surprisingly was uncorrupted by Calamity Ganon's malice. All shines once completed provided Link a Spirit Orb to trade for health or stamina improvements.
Kakariko Village[]
After traveling through Central Hyrule and West Necluda, Link came across a path through a valley containing Sheikah architecture. As he made his way through the valley, the architecture popped up more frequently, until he came across Kakariko Village, the home of the Sheikah. After being stopped by a resident, they noticed that he had the Sheikah Slate on his hip and welcomed him into the village, with them telling Link to hurry to the largest house in the village. Link made his way to the house, where he was stopped at the bottom of the stairs by two guards. One of them, Dorian, recognized the Sheikah Slate and apologized for the interruption. Link walked up the steps and noticed a young woman cleaning the porch. The woman, Paya, realized who Link was and immediately began blushing and telling him that her grandmother was inside. Link walked into the house and saw an elderly woman sitting in front of him. The woman, Impa, was glad that Link was finally awake and asked that even though it had been some time since they had last seen each other, if he remembered her.
From the look in Link's eyes, Impa could tell that Link did not remember her. However, she decided not to focus on Link's memory loss and instead tell him of the history of Hyrule and Calamity Ganon. Hyrule has been locked in an struggle for millennia with Ganon, but the most recent one, 10,000 years ago, resulted in Ganon being sealed away by a woman with a sacred power who was backed by a chosen hero and the army of Divine Beasts and guardians. That's what should have happened 100 years ago, but it evidently didn't. Impa then told Link that his best chance of helping Zelda to destroy Calamity Ganon would be to free the Divine Beasts. Using the Sheikah Slate, she marked where the Divine Beasts are: in the major population hubs of the other races that live in Hyrule. She also noticed that the Sheikah Slate is not fully operational, so she told Link to go to Hateno Village where a woman could help him fix the slate. While in the village, Link bought clothing that could help defend him from stronger attacks as well as Stealth Gear for the purpose of getting the jump on enemies and animals. Link also completed the Ta'loh Naeg Shrine, "Ta'loh Naeg's Teaching," located there, which helped him perfect his combat skills such as parrying physical attacks. It was also in the shrine that he perfected his legendary skills: Flurry Rush, which allows him to dodge attacks and slow down his perception of time allowing him to move and attack in what people watching would say in less than the blink of an eye, and Bullet Time, also allowing Link to slow down his perception of time while in the air and shoot arrows even more accurately. But it was also during his time there that Dorian reported to the Yiga Clan that Link was awake and active.
Dorian was a former Yiga Clan member who attempted to leave the organization when he fell in love with a Sheikah woman, married her and had two daughters. The Yiga killed his wife and threatened to kill his daughters unless he provided them information on Link. Later during Link's quest to free the Divine Beasts, a Sheikah orb went missing, Dorian realized that the Yiga had come to the village. Dorian found a Yiga Blademaster in the woods by the village outskirts and asked them to leave, citing that he had given them enough information on Link. The Blademaster scoffed at that and ordered that he continue his work as a spy. Dorian pulled out his weapon ready to fight. Luckily Link had followed Dorian, also believing that the Yiga were behind the theft of the orb. Link and Dorian then fought and defeated the Blademaster who then fled. It was then that Dorian revealed his past, though Link forgave him as he was trying to protect his kids and the fact that he helped Link defeat the Blademaster. Impa also forgave Dorian. The orb would later be used by Link to access the Lakna Rokee Shrine, "Lakna Rokee's Blessing."
Hateno Village[]
Link traveled through East Necluda to reach Hateno Village, where the woman who could repair the Sheikah Slate lived. The village consists of plenty of Hylians of all ages living comfortable lives. Link saw that there was a large lookout tower at the far east of the village and surmised that the woman must have been in there. Along the way, he heard two gossiping women discuss the director and a child that live in the tower. Once Link got to the tower, the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab, he noticed a child and a man in the research room. After the child joked about identities, she revealed that she was Purah, the older sister of Impa and the director.
The reason she looked like a child was due to an experiment to reverse her age gone wrong. But she could repair the Sheikah Slate if the lab's ancient flame was lit once again. Link provided the fire which allowed Purah to carefully examine the Sheikah Slate, as well as mark the tower on the Sheikah Slate's map as an area to warp to. The Stasis and Remote Bombs runes were not fully operational. Also the Camera rune was not reinstalled, which Purah quickly did. The runes could be improved with ancient materials found in guardians. But the interesting part was that the Camera rune had pictures taken by Zelda 100 years prior, which if Link went to the locations of the pictures could allow him to regain some of his memories. Purah also told him about her colleague Robbie, who was also working with ancient materials in the Akkala region.
Link would eventually make his way to Akkala to speak to Robbie, who like Impa was elderly. His home was the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab in Deep Akkala, whose flame had also gone out. He asked Link to relight the flame. Once Link did that, Robbie was able to provide Link with guardian and ancient weapons that could be used against the monsters of Hyrule in exchange for ancient materials and rupees, the main currency of Hyrule.
Also in Hateno Village was the old house that Link may have lived in 100 years ago. Bolson of Bolson Construction was preparing to tear it down with his men until Link showed up and asked to buy the house. For 3,000 rupees Link purchased the house. It gave Link a place to rest and a place to hang his weapons. After the purchase, one of Bolson's employees, Hudson, would go to Akkala to begin the process of building Tarrey Town.
The Divine Beasts[]
Divine Beast Vah Ruta[]
Road to Zora's Domain[]
Link began traveling through the Lanayru Wetlands and eventually saw the rain. As he went further into the wetlands, he noticed that the rain was more intentional than any other rain he had encountered. After climbing to the top of the Lanayru Tower, he noticed a Zora up there with him. The Zora, Gruve, noticed Link and told him that another Zora, Prince Sidon was on the ground looking for Hylians. Link descended to the ground, taking a stop to complete the Soh Kofi Shrine, and made his way to speak to Sidon. Link told Sidon his name, to which he had a sense of déjà vu of the name, but disregarded it. Sidon then asked Link to meet him at Zora's Domain, to which Link agreed. Sidon began swimming up the Zora River to the domain and Link took the roads. Along the way, Link encountered lizalfos with Shock Arrows, moblins and Electric Wizzrobes, though he was able to eliminate all that he came came across. After a long and dangerous journey, Link finally arrived at Zora's Domain.
Scorn of the Elders[]
As Link walked through Zora's Domain, plenty of Zora recognized him. Zora have a much longer lifespan than any other race in Hyrule, so the Zora that Link taught how to fight immediately recognized him, though were confused as to how he was still alive. But plenty of the elder Zora hated Link when they saw him and ordered him to get out of the domain. Link made his way to the throne room, where Sidon, the ruler of the Zora, King Dorephan, and the king's advisor, Muzu, awaited. Dorephan and Muzu were surprised that Link was alive, which made Sidon finally realize who Link was. Link then explained that Zelda was still alive in Hyrule Castle and that he had been asleep for 100 years. Dorephan then asked Link if he remembered Mipha, to which Link revealed that he did not. Muzu was furious, but Dorephan remained calm, despite his obvious dismay. He asked Link if he intended to subdue Vah Ruta, to which Link quickly agreed, much to Dorephan and Sidon's delight. Dorephan then explained to Link the Shock Arrow requirement to fight Vah Ruta. Dorephan then gave Link a gift, the Zora Armor. Muzu was shocked, due to it being intended for who Mipha intended to marry. Muzu then left the room in a huff and Sidon followed after him. Dorephan told Link that Muzu and Mipha were close due to Muzu being Mipha's teacher and asked him not to hold it against Muzu.
Ploymus Mountain[]
Link found Muzu and Sidon arguing in front of a statue. Muzu was still furious at Link, blaming him for Mipha's death. It was then that Link noticed the statue was one of Mipha, triggering a memory of Link and Mipha from 100 years ago. The memory was of Link and Mipha on Divine Beast Vah Ruta, who was healing a cut on Link's arm that he got in a fight. Mipha assured Link that she would always heal his wounds and commented on the fact that she had been doing this almost the entire time they had known each other. Mipha said that even though they may not know much about Calamity Ganon, she will always be there for Link and hoped that things could go back to normal once Calamity Ganon was defeated. Link snapped out of his trance and saw Sidon and Muzu staring at him. Link explained that he remembered some bits of Mipha, much to Sidon's delight. Muzu was still enraged, but calmed down when Link then put on the Zora Armor. Sidon explained that Link was the one who Mipha had romantic feelings for. Muzu was shocked and then decided to cooperate. He told Link that he could find Shock Arrows at the top of Ploymus Mountain belonging to a beast called a lynel. Sidon was worried, but still had faith in Link to get the Shock Arrows. He told Link to get at least 20 Shock Arrows and to meet him at the East Reservoir Lake.
Link used the Zora Armor to swim up the waterfalls leading to the top of Ploymus Mountain. Along the way, he found stray Shock Arrows that still had electricity flowing through them, but not enough to reach the 20 required. He also made a stop at the nearby Toto Lake, containing a piece of armor known as the Zora Helm. Once at the top, he saw the lynel patrolling the area. At first Link was able to sneak around the lynel and collect the Shock Arrows that were littered around the beast's territory and had enough to fight Vah Ruta, but then he decided to kill the lynel to get more just in case, along with the weapons the lynel wielded.
Boarding Vah Ruta[]
After slaying the lynel, Link descended Ploymus Mountain and made his way to the East Reservoir Lake. Once there, he showed Sidon his collection of Shock Arrows, which impressed Sidon. Sidon then asked for confirmation that Link would help him fight Vah Ruta, to which Link confirmed. Sidon was overjoyed by this and told Link the plan: Link would ride on Sidon's back and shoot the Shock Arrows at the red energy points. Once the plan was set, the two began the assault on Vah Ruta. Vah Ruta responded to their presence by launching ice constructs at the two. With Sidon swimming at top speed, it gave Link enough time to destroy the constructs, swim up the waterfalls created by Vah Ruta and disable the energy points. Once done, Sidon dropped Link off at the entrance platform and wished him luck.
Waterblight Ganon[]
Once inside of Vah Ruta, Link heard the voice of Mipha speak to him. She said that she had been waiting for him for a long time and looked forward to him reclaiming Vah Ruta. She then instructed Link to get to a Guidance Stone in the Divine Beast that would give him the layout of it. After he showed the Guidance Stone the Sheikah Slate, a map of the Divine Beast appeared on it, with five yellow points showing terminals in Vah Ruta. Mipha told Link that he would need to activate the terminals with the Slate to reclaim Vah Ruta.
Link navigated through Vah Ruta and activated all the terminals. After the final terminal was activated, Mipha instructed him to head to the main control unit in Vah Ruta. Link headed there to activate the terminal there, though once he placed the Sheikah Slate on the terminal, malice leaked out of it. Malice and guardian converged behind Link and formed a creature called Waterblight Ganon. Mipha asked Link to be careful, explaining that the creature was created by Ganon and the thing that killed her 100 years ago. She placed her faith in Link and the two began to fight. Though Waterblight displayed proficiency with its spear and cryokinesis, with Mipha giving him advice Link was able to kill it.
After killing Waterblight, Link activated the terminal, thus giving control of Vah Ruta to Mipha. Mipha then revealed herself to Link as a spirit, thanking him for freeing her and giving her hope after she nearly lost it and resigned herself to being trapped in Vah Ruta. Mipha then gave Link a gift: Mipha's Grace which would heal Link at the brink of death. Mipha then thanked Link once more and asked him to help Zelda in her fight.
Link was transported back to the entrance of Zora's Domain, where he informed them of what happened in Vah Ruta. King Dorephan thanked Link for his efforts and declared his pride in Sidon for helping Link. Muzu and the other Zora elders apologized for their treatment of Link and offered him Mipha's weapon: the Lightscale Trident. Link accepted the weapon and celebrated with the Zora.
Divine Beast Vah Rudania[]
Goron City[]
Link braved the scorching climate and traveled through Eldin to get to Goron City. As Link traveled through Eldin, the ground began to shake as flaming boulders caused by Vah Rudania began falling, though Link was able to avoid them. Once Link arrived in Goron City, he spoke to the Gorons who told him of their plight. Once Link told them he was there to help, they told him of how the elder Bludo usually led the defensive operations. Link then spoke to Bludo, who told him of how he and the youth Yunobo usually fought Vah Rudania off. Bludo then informed Link that Yunobo had gone to the Abandoned North Mine to fetch painkillers for Bludo, but had not been back since. Link went to investigate, with him taking the time to activate the Shae Mo'sah Shrine on the way.
Abandoned North Mine[]
Link arrived at the Abandoned North Mine. Once there, he noticed that there were groups of Fire-Breath Lizalfos patrolling the area and watching a large rock structure towards the north center of the mine. Link then defeated the monsters, and using a mix of the cannons littered throughout the mine, the boulders in the cannons, and his remote bombs, blew open an entrance in the rock structure. Inside was Yunobo, who was briefly frightened by Link. Link explained that Bludo sent him there to check on Yunobo getting the painkillers. Yunobo told Link he had them and the two went back to Goron City.
Once the two got back to Goron City, Bludo took the painkillers, though his back still ached. Bludo told Yunobo to meet him at the Bridge of Eldin to fight off Vah Rudania. He then told Link about how grateful he was for Yunobo to get the painkillers and to continually help him chase Vah Rudania off. He told Link how Yunobo was the grandson of Daruk and had inherited his forcefield protection power. Bludo pointed towards Daruk's statue at Monument Rock. Link looked at the statue, which triggered a memory of him and Daruk from before the Calamity. In the memory, Link and Daruk were patrolling Eldin on Vah Rudania, with Daruk happy to have better control of the Divine Beast. Daruk then told Link that it's a big responsibility to be the bodyguard of the king's daughter and to be careful. Immediately after that, large boulders fell from the top of Death Mountain and towards the pair. Daruk used his ability to protect them and noted how strange it was for Death Mountain to be active. Link snapped out of it and saw Bludo staring at him. Bludo's back ached once more, who realized he would be unable to help Yunobo. Link then informed Bludo that he would help Yunobo deal with Vah Rudania and went to meet with him.
Boarding Vah Rudania[]
Link arrived at the Bridge of Eldin, only to find it raised and Yunobo being attacked by two Black Moblins. Link then quickly eliminated them and told Yunobo about Bludo's back problems. This saddened Yunobo, but Link told him how they could take on Vah Rudania. Yunobo agreed and told Link that they need to lower the bridge. He then had the idea to use himself as a tool to lower the bridge. Using his protection, he could be what was launched out of the nearby cannon. Yunobo jumped into the cannon and Link activated it with his remote bombs. Yunobo went flying into the raised bridge, which lowered it. Yunobo affirmed that he was ok and with renewed confidence the two ran to take on Vah Rudania.
Divine Beast Vah Rudania responded to the bridge lowering by sending out flying mechanical scouts. Yunobo noticed this and warned Link that if they were detected by them, Vah Rudania would go beserk and launch flaming boulders at them. After a long chase of Vah Rudania around Death Mountain, dodging the gaze of the scouts and using cannons littered throughout the mountain, Vah Rudania roared and fell into Death Mountain. Yunobo recognized it as their chance to finish the fight. Link nodded at him and jumped into Death Mountain. Yunobo watched in shock as Link paraglided onto Vah Rudania.
Fireblight Ganon[]
Once inside of Vah Rudania, Link heard Daruk's voice speak to him. He said that he's excited to watch Link take control of Vah Rudania. He then instructed Link to get to a Guidance Stone in the Divine Beast that would give him a layout of it. Link navigated the darkness of Vah Rudania and got to the Guidance Stone, which provided him a map of Vah Rudania, along with terminals he needed to activate and dispelling the darkness.
Link navigated through Vah Rudania and activated the terminals. After activating the final terminal, Daruk spoke to Link again, instructing him to go to the main control unit. Once he placed the Sheikah Slate onto the terminal, malice leaked out of it. Malice and guardian parts converged behind Link and formed a creature called Fireblight Ganon. Daruk warned him to be careful, as that creature was what had killed him 100 years ago, and then wished Link luck. The creature had a large guardian sword, could launch homing fireballs and could create its own shield. After a fierce battle, with Daruk giving Link advice, he ultimately avenged him.
Link then activated the terminal again, freeing the Divine Beast from the control of Calamity Ganon. Daruk emerged in spirit form and congratulated Link. He apologized for him failing to protect Hyrule, but said that he would make sure his part was played correctly this time. Daruk then gave Link his protection power, which allowed Link to create an all encompassing forcefield when he punched his fists together. Daruk then told Link to give his regards to the princess, wished him luck and transported Link back to Goron City.
Once Link was in Goron City, he met with Yunobo and Bludo. Link told Bludo that Vah Rudania was no longer a threat to Goron City. Bludo then congratulated both Link and Yunobo for their actions and offered Link Daruk's weapon, the Boulder Breaker. Link accepted the weapon.
Divine Beast Vah Naboris[]
Forbidden City Entry[]
Link navigated through the Gerudo Desert where he felt the vibrations caused by Divine Beast Vah Naboris. Continuing his journey he arrived at Gerudo Town, where unfortunately, due to him being a voe, he was unable to enter. Luckily this did not stop him from activating the Daqo Chisay Shrine, which was located on the outskirts of the town. Once he completed the shrine, Link noticed a Hylian named Benja scouting the main entrance to the town. Benja and Link spoke, with him telling Link that someone had managed to sneak into the town and could be found at Kara Kara Bazaar.
Link went to the bazaar and located the man, Vilia, who was on top of the bazaar's inn. Vilia was dressed in Gerudo attire, which was how he snuck in. Link then complemented Vilia on his outfit, which made Vilia decide to sell him spare Gerudo clothes. With the Gerudo clothes disguising his gender, Link was able to enter the city without any issue.
Once in the town, Link went to the Gerudo Throne Room and saw the Gerudo Chief, a young girl named Riju, with a warrior, Buliara, guarding her. Link told them that he could calm Vah Naboris. Buliara remained skeptical, noting that only a champion could subdue a Divine Beast. It was then that the two realized that Link was a voe, with Buliara ready to throw Link out of town, but Riju decided to let him stay, realizing that Link was a champion who fought along side Urbosa. Riju spoke about how they had a tool that could resist Vah Naboris's lightning, the Thunder Helm, but it was stolen by the Yiga Clan. Link then offered to retrieve it. Buliara directed him towards the barracks, who could provide him more information on the theft, but had Link keep his gender a secret. The soldiers told Link that they tracked the Yiga Clan to their hideout in Karusa Valley, but have been unable to break in. Link then set off to the hideout.
Infiltrating the Yiga Clan Hideout[]
Link traveled through Karusa Valley, defeating a few Yiga footsoldiers who ambushed him. Once he reached the hideout, he burned multiple Yiga tapestries, revealing the true entrance into the hideout. Link then came across a Gerudo soldier imprisoned by the Yiga Clan and freed her. Link continued through the hideout, avoiding patrols of Yiga blademasters before coming a cross a bedroom. The bedroom contained a metal wall, which Link opened using Magnesis.
The wall opening revealed a large open area with a giant pit in the middle. As Link walked towards the pit, a man appeared in front of Link. The man revealed himself as Master Kohga, the leader of the Yiga Clan. Kohga was delighted that Link was there, as Kohga could finally kill him. The two fought, with Link proving himself to be the more pwoerful combatant. Kohga summoned a spiky ball to crush Link, but it ended up rolling into him and dropping him into the pit. Link then retrieved the Thunder Helm from a nearby treasure chest and left the hideout.
Boarding Vah Naboris[]
Link returned to Gerudo Town and took the Thunder Helm to Riju. She accepted it and told Link that she would help him fight Vah Naboris. Riju put on the helm, which triggered a memory for Link. The memory depicted Urbosa talking to Link while Zelda slept next to them. Urbosa told Link of Zelda's hardships and to protect her. She then summoned lightning which woke Zelda up and startled Link, much to her amusement. Riju noticed Link in a daze but dismissed it. Riju then told Link to meet her at the lookout post to the south of the town.
Link met Riju at the lookout post. Riju explained that she would use the Thunder Helm to shield her and Link from Vah Naboris's lightning and that Link would attack the feet of Vah Naboris, which would temporarily bring it down. Riju supplied Link with 20 Bomb Arrows. The two then walked to sand seals that Riju brought, one for Link and her personal one, Patricia. Riju activated the Thunder Helm and the two rode off to Vah Naboris. Vah Naboris took notice of them and attacked with lightning. Riju and Link continued their pursuit, and with Riju shielding them and Link shooting the arrows, Vah Naboris stopped moving and collapsed. Riju entrusted the rest to Link, who ran ahead to board Vah Naboris.
Thunderblight Ganon[]
Once inside of Vah Naboris, Link heard the voice of Urbosa speaking to him. She said that she was excited to see Link take back control of Vah Naboris. She then instructed Link to get to a Guidance Stone in the Divine Beast that would give him a layout of it. Link got to the Guidance Stone, which provided him a map of Vah Naboris, along with terminals he needed to activate.
Link navigated through Vah Naboris and activated the terminals. At the final terminal, Urbosa spoke to him once again, telling him to go the main terminal and activating it. Once he placed the Sheikah Slate onto the terminal, malice leaked out of it. Malice and guardian parts converged behind Link and formed a creature called Thunderblight Ganon. Urbosa informed Link that the creature was responsible for killing her 100 years ago and to fight for the right to die later. The creature wielded a Guardian Sword and a Guardian Shield, had super speed and could summon pillars to attract small lightning bolts. After a difficult fight, and with Urbosa's advice and Daruk's Protection on his side, Link avenged Urbosa.
Link then activated the main terminal. Urbosa appeared with control of Vah Naboris and was excited to destroy Ganon. She then gave Link her special power, the ability to summon lightning with the snap of his fingers, Urbosa's Fury. Urbosa then asked Link to tell Zelda that she was proud of the woman she had become and to take good care of Hyrule with a wink before transporting Link to Gerudo Town.
Link then went to speak to Riju and Buliara. The two were grateful for Link's help and allowed him to visit Gerudo Town at anytime so long as he disguised his gender. They then offered Link Urbosa's weapons that she used when she was alive, the Scimitar of the Seven and the Daybreaker, which Link accepted.
Divine Beast Vah Medoh[]
Rito Village[]
Link traveled through the Tabantha Frontier to Rito Village. While crossing one of the bridges above Lake Totori to get to the village, he heard Divine Beast Vah Medoh screeching in the sky. Link continued into the village, completed the Akh Va'quot Shrine and then spoke to the elder Kaneli. Kaneli saw the Sheikah Slate and thought Link was a descendant of himself. Link asked about Vah Medoh, to which Kaneli told Link of how the Rito Teba and Harth attempted to fight Vah Medoh, but Harth was injured. Kaneli asked Link to find Teba to convince him to not fight Vah Medoh once more.
A Rito named Saki, Teba's wife, overheard the conversation and sought out Link. She explained that she was worried about Teba and that he could find him at the Flight Range. She then said that Link could get to the Flight Range if he went straight from Revali's Landing, a platform in Rito Village. She pointed the platform to Link, which triggered a memory of him and Revali. Revali flew down from Vah Medoh to speak to Link. Then, he taunted Link about not being able to fly, suggested they fight on Vah Medoh before noticing that Link had no way to get to Vah Medoh on his own. Revali flew off and sarcastically wished Link luck with sealing the darkness. Saki saw Link space out, but dismissed it. Link then went to the Flight Range.
Flight Range[]
Link paraglided from Revali's Landing and landed in the Hebra Mountains, forcing him to deal with the snow and cold weather. Link traveled through the mountains to get to Dronoc's Pass where the Flight Range was, taking the time to complete the Sha Warvo Shrine along the way. Once Link got to the Flight Range, he saw Teba examining his bow. Teba noticed Link's presence and asked him to leave if he was going to try to talk him down. Link told Teba that he was sent there to stop him, but he wanted to help Teba fight Vah Medoh.
Teba was skeptical, so he had Link prove himself with the Flight Range's archery course. Link destroyed multiple targets in a few seconds, proving his worth to Teba. Teba agreed to fight Vah Medoh with Link, warning him that he would have to prepare for the extreme cold. Link prepared for the weather and Teba provided him with Bomb Arrows. Once the two were ready, Link climbed on Teba's back and the two flew into the sky.
Boarding Vah Medoh[]
Teba and Link approached Vah Medoh, with Teba informing Link that Vah Medoh creates an impenetrable shield that could only be breached by destroying Vah Medoh's cannons. The plan would be that Link would destroy the cannons while Teba acted as a target for them. Teba asked if Link was ready and Link confirmed he was. Link then jumped off of Teba and opened his paraglider to take advantage of the drafts created by Vah Medoh.
With Teba acting as a target and Link using his paraglider in tandem with the bomb arrows and his archery skills, the cannons were destroyed. But Teba was injured in the fight, telling Link that he wouldn't be able to continue to help him. Link nodded and continued to descend onto Vah Medoh while Teba flew back down to the Flight Range.
Windblight Ganon[]
Once inside of Vah Medoh, Link heard the voice of Revali speaking to him. He said that Link was rude for making him wait 100 years to take back control of Vah Naboris. He then instructed Link to get to a Guidance Stone in the Divine Beast that would give him a layout of it. Link got to the Guidance Stone, which provided him a map of Vah Medoh, along with terminals he needed to activate.
Link navigated through Vah Medoh and activated the terminals. At the final terminal, Revali spoke to him once again, telling him to go the main terminal and activating it. Once he placed the Sheikah Slate onto the terminal, malice leaked out of it. Malice and guardian parts converged behind Link and formed a creature called Windblight Ganon. Revali informed Link that the creature was responsible for killing him 100 years ago, but only because he didn't try his hardest and that unfortunately he had to ask Link to avenge him. The creature had an arm cannon and could create homing drones. After a long fight, and with Revali providing him advice, along with the Champion Abilties in his possession, Link destroyed the creature.
Link then activated the main terminal, with Revali appearing and saying that it was a surprise that Link would be able to kill Windblight Ganon. Revali said that he should maybe tell Link thanks for avenging him and tells Link that he has proven himself worthy of his special ability, Revali's Gale. This would allow Link to create mini tornados of wind beneath him, allowing him to soar in the air. Revali said that he would prepare Vah Medoh to strike against Ganon and warned Link that his job was far from over before transporting him back to Rito Village.
Link arrived in Rito Village and heard Zelda speak to him. She congratulated him on freeing the Divine Beasts and said that she and all the Champions awaited him confronting Ganon. Link then went to Kaneli and Teba to inform them of his success. Kaneli and Teba expressed gratitude and Kaneli offered Link the bow that Revali used, the Great Eagle Bow, which Link accepted.
Forgotten Memories[]
Link met a Sheikah man named Pikango in Kakariko Village. After taking a picture of the Great Fairy Cotera's Fountain north of Kakariko Village, Pikango could be found at some stables and villages across Hyrule. Link showed him some of the pictures when he came across him and Pikango was able to provide Link information on where the pictures were taken.
The first picture showed the Sacred Ground Ruins and was taken in Hyrule Field. Link got to the photograph location and got a flashback of 100 years ago. Link arrived at the Tena Ko'sah Shrine where Zelda was attempting to enter by using the Sheikah Slate, where he was under orders by the king to escort her wherever she wanted to. Zelda said that she was the only one who could think for herself and yelled at Link to stop following her.
The fourth picture showed Kara Kara Bazaar and was taken in the Gerudo Desert. Link got to the photograph location and got a flashback of 100 years ago. The fifth picture showed the mountains and Military Training Camp and was taken in the Eldin Canyon. Link got to the photograph location and got a flashback of 100 years ago. Then, Zelda tends to Link's arm and notes that while his injuries aren't bad, he needs to be careful. The two look over the large group of monsters that Link killed, with Zelda noting on how the intensity of monster attacks increasing being a possible sign of Calamity Ganon returning. The two then began to make their way down the mountainside.
The sixth picture showed Irch Plain and Hyrule Castle and was taken in Hyrule Ridge. Link got to the photograph location and got a flashback of 100 years ago. Then, Link and Zelda were examining flowers that could be used as medicine. Zelda took pictures with the Sheikah Slate and took notice of a special blue flower, the Silent Princess. Zelda then grabbed a Hot-Footed Frog, telling Link that it could improve physical attributes, before asking Link to taste it.
The seventh picture showed the Bridge of Hylia and the Hills of Baumer and was taken in West Necluda. Link got to the photograph location and got a flashback of 100 years ago. Then, Link and Zelda were waiting out the rain under a tree, with Zelda watching Link practice with the Master Sword. Zelda says that Link was following in the footsteps of his father, before asking him if he ever thought what would have happened if he could choose a different life path.
The eighth picture showed Zelda's Room and was taken in Hyrule Castle. Link got to the photograph location and got a flashback of 100 years ago. Then, Link and Zelda were overlooking Sheikah researchers testing Guardian Stalkers. Zelda expressed hope that the guardians would be able to help them if Calamity Ganon ever came back. King Rhoam appeared and berated her for being unable to unlock her sealing power, ordered her to not spend any time with the guardians and to focus all her time on training.
The ninth picture showed the Spring of Power and was taken at the spring. Link got to the photograph location and got a flashback of 100 years ago. Then, Link was guarding Zelda as she prayed at the Spring of Power to a statue of Hylia. Zelda spoke to the statue, saying that she had devoted her entire life to praying and being unable to use any powers she may have. She then asked out loud what was wrong with her.
The 10th picture showed the Sandin Park Ruins and was taken at the ruins. Link got to the photograph location and got a flashback of 100 years ago. Then, Link and Zelda were riding their horses before stopping to overlook Mount Lanayru, with Zelda thanking Link for his advice regarding horses. Zelda told Link that tomorrow would be her birthday and they would make the journey to the top of Mount Lanayru where she would pray at the Spring of Wisdom and hopefully unlock her sealing power.
The 11th picture showed the Lanayru Road East Gate and was taken at the gate. Link got to the photograph location and got a flashback of 100 years ago. Then, Link and Zelda descended from Mount Lanayru to meet the Champions who were waiting for them. The Champions asked if Zelda had received her sealing power, but she said that she didn't. The Champions remained hopeful that there was another solution to the issue, with Mipha attempting to offer advice before the ground shook. Revali flew in the air and saw Calamity Ganon surrounding Hyrule Castle and confirming it for the others. Daruk then told the Champions to head to their Divine Beasts and for Link to go to the castle to fight Ganon. Zelda decided to stay with Link to help in anyway she could.
The 12th picture showed the woods northeast of the Bottomless Swamp and was taken in Hyrule Field. Link got to the photograph location and got a flashback of 100 years ago. Then, Link and Zelda were fleeing from the castle as guardians pursued them. Zelda collapsed and despaired of how their friends were dead, the guardians had turned against them and that she was a failure . Zelda began to cry at the fact that she couldn't save anybody and fell into Link's arms as he comforted her.
Link went back to Kakariko Village and told Impa of how he had ben to each of the photograph locations. Impa then told Link of another secret location that would provide him with one more memory of his time with Zelda. The photo depicting this location showed the middle of Fort Hateno. Link traveled to the location and got a flashback of 100 years ago. Then, he was gravely wounded defending Zelda from the Guardian Stalkers. Zelda begged him to flee and that she would be fine, but Link refused to leave her. A stalker appeared and tried to kill Link, but Zelda jumped in front of Link, raised her hand and unleashed a blast of yellow energy that disabled all the guardians at Fort Hateno. Zelda realized this was her sealing power, but looked back to see Link on the ground. Zelda held Link in her arms as she told him he would be ok, but it was in vain as Link quietly passed away in Zelda's arms. As Zelda sobbed, the Master Sword spoke to Zelda, telling her that Link could still be saved. Two Sheikah warriors appeared to escort Zelda to safety. Instead, she instructed them to take Link to the Shrine of Resurrection as quickly as possible, with his life being in their hands.
Link emerged from the flashback to hear Zelda congratulating him on regaining his memories, with her saying that the time to fight Ganon was approaching soon.
The Master Sword[]
Reaching the Korok Forest[]
Link searched for the Master Sword, eventually coming to the conclusion that its most likely location was in the Great Hyrule Forest. Link traveled there, ending up in the Lost Woods. The Lost Woods had a mist that would make someone lost for eternity if they were consumed by it. Link avoided the mist and by using the direction of flames, he came across the center of the Great Hyrule Forest, the Korok Forest, the home of the Koroks. In the Korok Forest, Link came across the Keo Ruug Shrine which he completed and also saw Hestu again.
Worthy[]
It was then that he saw a sword in a stone pedestal in the ground. Link examined the sword and touched it, before getting a flashback of 100 years ago. Then, Zelda placed the Master Sword in the pedestal before informing it that its master would be back for it. The Great Deku Tree overlooked this and said that the sword would be under its protection while it repaired itself. Zelda asked the Great Deku Tree to relay a message to Link, but he told Zelda to tell Link the message herself, to which she agreed.
Link emerged from the flashback, realizing that the sword was the legendary Master Sword. The Great Deku Tree awoke from its slumber and took notice of Link. He realized that Link had no knowledge of who he was but he was still there to reclaim the Master Sword. The Great Deku Tree informed Link that if he attempted to pull the Master Sword in an unworthy state, he would die. But Link remained firm and grasped the sword. He successfully pulled it, indicating that he was once again worthy to wield the Master Sword once again. Link sheathed the sword, impressing the Great Deku Tree.
Trials of the Sword[]
Link felt the Master Sword speak to him, asking him to place the sword back in the pedestal. Link complied and vanished. Link arrived in a room that appeared similar to the inside of Sheikah Shrines. Link was also in just his underwear and Sheikah Slate that only had the runes. A voice spoke to Link, telling him that if he could fight his way through multiple rooms with only the equipment he could find in the rooms, the Master Sword's power could increase.
Link fought his way through the rooms, facing multiple bokoblins, moblins, lizalfos, hinoxes, guardians and lynels. Once done, he was transported to a large staircase. Link walked up the steps to see the Master Sword in a pedestal surrounded by multiple Sheikah monks. Link pulled the Master Sword from the pedestal and lifted it in the air, causing it to start glowing. The monks informed Link that the Master Sword was now in its awakened state and transported Link back to the Korok Forest. Link informed the Great Deku Tree of what happened, impressing him and wishing Link luck on his mission.
The Champion's Ballad[]
Trial on the Plateau[]
Link heard a voice from a monk named Maz Koshia. He asked Link to go to the Shrine of Resurrection, as he had a trial for him to complete. Link went back to the Shrine of Resurrection and noticed a weapon that appeared similar to the Lightscale Trident, but with four sharp edges that had the face of each Divine Beast on them. Maz Kohshia instructed Link to grab the weapon, to which Link complied. As he grabbed the weapon, he felt intense pain but was unable to let go of the weapon. After a minute, Mas Koshia spoke to Link, telling him that the weapon he had was called the One-Hit Obliterator. It would kill any enemy in a single hit, but Link would also die if he took any damage. He then told Link there were four new shrines around the Great Plateau for him to complete.
Link traveled around the plateau and completed the new shrines, Yowaka Ita, Rohta Chigah, Ruvo Korbah and Etsu Korima while also defeating the monsters that guarded them. Once he completed the last one, Maz Koshia congratulated Link. It was then that the One-Hit Obliterator broke into four pieces that went to the Lanayru, Eldin, Gerudo and Hebra regions. Maz Koshia told Link to go to the locations that were now marked on the Sheikah Slate's map.
Divine Beasts Trials[]
Link went to each of the locations where he saw the Rito bard Kass. Kass sang songs of the new trials which gave Link's tips on how to open even more shrines. Once Link completed the shrines, he was told by Maz Koshia to go back to the Divine Beasts as they watched over Hyrule Castle. There, Link retreated into his mind and fought and killed each of the Blight Ganons once more, using the weapons that the Champions used. After each Blight Ganon was defeated, the Champions spoke to Link once more, telling him that the Champion abilities were improved in power. Once that was done, Maz Koshia instructed Link to go back to the Shrine of Resurrection.
Monk Maz Koshia[]
Once Link went back to the Shrine of Resurrection, Maz Koshia instructed him to place the Sheikah Slate in the pedestal where he first got it. Once Link did it, the room descended into a large underground chamber. Maz Koshia instructed Link to activate the terminals located throughout the chamber. Link navigated through the chamber and did so, destroying plenty of guardians that were located there. After the final terminal was activated, a large door opened, revealing Monk Maz Koshia in a meditation stance. Link went to Maz Koshia, who congratulated him on his progress. Maz Koshia then stood up and informed Link that there was one more trial, before making Link vanish from the chamber.
Link reappeared on top of a floating arena. Maz Koshia then appeared in front of him, getting into a fighting stance. Link realized that it was a combat trial and Maz Koshia ordered the fight to commence. Maz Koshia demonstrated the ability to clone himself, grow to a giant size, displayed formidable sword skills, the ability to summon spiky metal balls like Kohga and blast lasers like guardians. Luckily with Link's fighting skills, improved champion abilities, runes and experience, he was able to subdue Maz Koshia, who surrendered. Maz Koshia then offered Link his own Divine Beast, a motorcycle called the Master Cycle Zero, which could be summoned with the Sheikah Slate. Maz Koshia then transported him back to the Great Plateau.
Once Link was back on the plateau, he saw Kass playing on his accordion. Kass noticed him and offered to play him a song about the Champions. Link accepted and Kass played the song. The song made Link experience a flashback of 100 years ago. Then, King Rhoam announced in a ceremony that the Champions were chosen to the rest of Hyrule and that he hoped they would stand together against Calamity Ganon. After the ceremony, Purah took a picture of the Champions and Zelda. Link emerged from the flashback, to Kass's intrigue. He realized that Link was the Champion from 100 years ago and gave him the photo. Zelda then spoke to Link, congratulating him on completing all the trials thrown towards him so far. She told Link that she was certain that he could beat Calamity Ganon.
Calamity Ganon[]
Link traveled to Hyrule Castle to destroy Calamity Ganon, using a mix of the one of the horses he had found in the wild, the Master Cycle Zero and stealth. Once he got to the castle, he began the long and dangerous journey to the castle sanctum. Along the way, he came across guardians patrolling the castle and monsters enjoying the destruction Ganon caused to the castle 100 years ago. As Link fought his way through the castle, he became even more motivated to end Ganon. Eventually, Link reached the sanctum. He took a breath to steel his nerves and walked into the sanctum.
Once Link was in the sanctum, he noticed a large cocoon at the top of the room with something moving inside of it. Zelda spoke to Link and said that she was sorry, but she couldn't hold Ganon back anymore. Guardian lasers blasted out of the cocoon, narrowly missing Link. This caused the floor beneath Link to crumble, causing him and the creature that fell out of the cocoon to fall into the bowels of the castle. The creature hit the ground hard but Link safely glided down to the floor. The creature turned to face Link and roared, with Link getting ready to face the Scourge of Hyrule Castle, Calamity Ganon.
Before Ganon and Link began their fight, the Champions sensed their conflict. It was then that they unleashed the Divine Beasts' lasers and directed them towards Hyrule Castle. The lasers went to the sanctum and dived towards Ganon, raining a parade of energy blasts that greatly damaged him. But it wasn't enough, as Ganon survived and roared at Link once again. Link, remembering what Ganon had done to Hyrule, was ready to avenge the kingdom. Link unsheathed the Master Sword, got into fighting stance and the two began their duel.
Calamity Ganon proved himself to be a powerful foe, with him displaying great proficiency with his large Guardian Sword, a cannon that shot guardian lasers, temporary invincibility, pyrokinesis and the ability to create an powerful energy blast that surrounded his body. But with Link's own proficiency with the Master Sword, improved Champion abilities, runes, experience and desire to avenge Hyrule, he was able to defeat Ganon, who turned into a red malice mist. The mist then began to drift up and out of the castle. It was then that Zelda transported Link to the center of Hyrule Field where the mist began to form something else. The mist formed to create a giant boar, Dark Beast Ganon. Zelda spoke to Link, telling him that Ganon's hatred of the cycle of attacking Hyrule and subsequent sealing had made him try to end the cycle to destroy Hyrule once and for all. Zelda then provided Link with a bow called the Bow of Light, with Light Arrows that could provide devastating damage to Ganon. Link climbed on to one of his horses that was also in the field. Zelda told Link that while he may not have all his memories of his life before he died, he could still find the courage to continue the fight, for courage is never forgotten. Link rode on his horse and dodged Ganon's attempts to squish or incinerate him with its fire-breath. Zelda formed targets on Ganon where Link shot Light Arrows, greatly weakening Ganon. Eventually, a large eye formed on Ganon's forehead and Zelda told Link to deliver the final blow. Link used an updraft created by the fire to glide up and launch one last Light Arrow towards the eye, causing the boar to once again dissipate into mist again. It was then that Zelda appeared. As the mist tried to consume her, Zelda raised her hand and unleashed a large blast of white light, sealing Calamity Ganon, this time permanently.
Link walked towards Zelda. Zelda looked away, saying that she had been watching over his journey and was proud of him. Zelda turned around with a hopeful expression, asking Link if he truly remembered her. Link smiled, walked up and hugged her, confirming that he did remember her.
Rebuilding Hyrule[]
The defeat of Calamity Ganon led to some interesting effects around Hyrule. The Champions, their duty to Hyrule now complete, faded away like the Sheikah monks. King Rhoam did the same. This also stripped Link of his Champion abilities. The Divine Beasts, now without their pilots, shut down. The guardians also shut down. Zelda also became unable to use her sealing power. When she and Link discussed it, she said that she could accept if the power was gone for good.
Soon, Link and Zelda began the process of rebuilding Hyrule. The Sheikah technology was disassembled and repurposed into new technology by Purah and Robbie, with Purah creating the Purah Pad, a Sheikah Slate but without the runes apart from the camera. Purah was also able to age her body to the form of a young woman again. Zelda established a school in Hateno for the village's children and memorials for those who lost their lives during the Calamity. She also made her presence known to Hyrule, with the people looking to her as a symbol of hope. She also took up residence in Hateno with Link. Hyrule would also begin to dig into the ground to make wells to take advantage of the resources in the ground. Impa eventually retired as village chief and gave the position to Paya. Kaneli also retired a s village elder and gave the position to Teba. Sidon would also meet a Zora named Yona and even get engaged with her. Yunobo established a mining business called YunoboCo to help smooth mining operations around Death Mountain. Link also began the process of eliminating some of the more dangerous monsters in Hyrule, as with Calamity Ganon sealed away by Zelda, the Blood Moon wouldn't occur and the monsters could stay dead. Eventually, Link would lay the Master Sword to rest in the Korok Forest, with the Great Deku Tree watching over it. For the following years, there was peace in Hyrule.
One day, though they did not know, Calamity Ganon faded from existence. Not long after that, a substance began to leak from underneath Hyrule Castle and spread around Hyrule. The substance was corrosive and coming into contact with it caused people to become weak, with prolonged contact causing death, earning it the name gloom. Link and Zelda volunteered to investigate, with Link reclaiming the Master Sword for defense against what was underneath Hyrule Castle.
Meeting Ganondorf[]
Link and Zelda traveled to a large underground cavern beneath Hyrule Castle to investigate the gloom. But they noticed something off: the gloom appeared to be thicker, although not concentrated enough to hurt them. As they continued, they are attacked by keese, though Link was able to easily dispatch them. While looking around after the attack, they discovered pieces of pillars with writing on them. They detailed the events of a conflict known as the Imprisoning War, where the first king of Hyrule and six other people fought against the being known as the Demon King. Zelda took pictures with the Purah Pad, though she noticed that some of the murals of the war were covered in rubble.
As they progressed further down the area, they discovered a large room called the Imprisoning Chamber with a mummified figure in the center of the room. The figure appeared to have gloom spewing from its body and had a hand pushing it down to lean back in what looked to be agony. As they approached the figure, the hand dropped from it, with a stone rolling in front of Zelda. As she picked it up, the figure started to move. Its face moved to look at them, with its blank eyes coming to life with red pupils. The gloom launched itself at Zelda, though Link blocked it with the Master Sword. But the gloom wrapped itself around the sword and latched onto his arm, rapidly decaying both and causing Link a great amount of pain. With most of his remaining strength and the Master Sword falling apart, he launched the tip of the blade at the figure, though it only scratched the cheek and the figure simply regenerated the skin.
The figure stood up, called the sword weak and addressed both of them. It immediately called Zelda by her name and realized that the swordsman was Link based on his use of the sword. It said that "Rauru" placed his faith in them, though it said that based on what he had seen they don't have a chance against it. It then spewed more gloom upward, causing the whole chamber floor to break apart. Zelda and the figure both fell into the darkness below. Link jumped after her to grab her hand, but he missed and then she vanished in a flash of yellow light. As Link continued to fall, the arm grabbed him and brought him upwards to a blue-green light. After the ordeal, Link passed out from exhaustion and pain.
Recovery[]
After an unspecified amount of time, though it could be several weeks, Link woke up in a room with no weapons, gear, supplies, mirroring how he woke up in the Shrine of Resurrection. He then noticed that his arm felt weird. He looked at it and noticed that it wasn't his arm at all: it was dark green and covered in brown symbols. He then heard a mysterious male voice, apparently being relieved that he awoke. The voice told him that he heard a great deal about him from Zelda, catching Link's attention as wherever Zelda vanished was to a place where she could talk to the owner of the voice. The voice then told him that unfortunately to prevent his death they had to amputate his arm, though they were able to replace it with the arm he woke up with.
Link stood up and looked around the room. In the room, Link noticed the handle of the Master Sword sticking out of a pile of vines. Link pulled the handle and saw that the Master Sword was still broken and in a decayed state. Luckily it was still a sharp blade, which Link used to slice through thick vines covering a nearby doorway. Link continued through the doorway and came across a large stone ring with a projection of hand. Link placed his replacement hand towards the projection, which caused it to disappear and caused gears located on the walls in the room to start moving. Another doorway opened revealing multiple drops into small pools of water. Link made multiple dives into the pools before coming across a treasure chest containing archaic legwear that fit him. Link continued down a narrow hallway before reaching the outside on a small walkway. Link realized that he was in the sky and wherever he was was above a sea of clouds. He also noticed that beneath him was a large drop into a large pond. Link ran and then dived off the walkway.
Link safely landed in the pond. He swam out and saw that he was in the middle of a large cluster of floating islands. Link walked around before noticing a few green automatons patrolling the area that became hostile when they saw him. Fortunately Link found large tree branches and wooden sticks, allowing him to defend himself. Link then came across another automaton that was in a crouching position. When he got close, it began to rise. The automaton notice Link and called him by his name. It said that it was a Steward Construct and that there were plenty of other automatons like it that were more interested in menial tasks than combat, so he didn't have to worry about them. It then called the automatons that Link had fought were called soldier constructs and that they weren't evil, just defending the island from all possible threats which unfortunately including Link. The Steward Construct than told Link that it had two gifts for him from Zelda. The first gift was the Purah Pad. The second gift was a pack of energy cells that could be used to take advantage of any strange technologyLink found. Link opened the map on the Purah Pad and saw that he was on the Great Sky Island. The map also showed a yellow light, which the Steward Construct said would be where he could find Zelda. When Link asked what it was, the Steward onstruct responded that it was a creation of the Zonai.
Link followed the map to the yellow light, located at a temple called the Temple of Time. At the temple, Link saw another projection of a hand on the main entrance. Link pressed his new hand against it before realizing that the door wanted to test his strength. Link then pushed against the projection, but the entrance remained closed. A voice spoke to Link saying that the entrance would only open to those with sufficient power. Link turned around ready to fight before realizing the voice was the same as the one who spoke o him when he first awoke on the Great Sky Island. The voice was revealed to come from a strange-looking man who was also a spirit. The spirit revealed that his name was Rauru, a member of the Zonai, beings said to have been descended from gods and users of fantastic technology, and the one who originally had Link's new arm. Rauru pointed towards a nearby stone structure, saying that something in that shrine and something in the two other ones on the Great Sky Island could help him open the entrance. Rauru also revealed that the shrines were something that the Zonai used to test themselves.
The first shrine Link went to was the Ukouh Shrine, "The Ability To Create." The shrine's entrance was blocked by a hand projection, which immediately opened when Link placed his new hand against it. Inside the shrine, Rauru appeared and told Link to extend his new hand. Link did and energy from the shrine converged into Link's hand, giving Link an ability called "Ultrahand," essentially telekinesis by extending the new arm towards objects and being able to attach them towards others. Link used Ultrahand to complete the puzzles in the shrine before coming across an altar. The altar depicted Rauru and a woman, which congratulated Link on completing the shrine. The altar then created an orb of light called a "Light of Blessing" that dispelled some of the gloom still present in Link's body. Link exited the shrine and went to the next one, the In-isa Shrine, "The Ability To Combine." Again, Rauru appeared within the shrine, Link extended his hand and energy converged into it. Link gained an ability called "Fuse," which allowed Link to fuse objects including monster parts and explosives to weapons, shields and arrows giving Link even more variety with tools to fight with. Link gained another Light of Blessing after completing the puzzle in the shrine. Link exited the shrine and then found a treasure chest containing an tunic. Using these new abilities, Link made his way to the last shrine, the Gutanbac Shrine, "The Ability To Rise." In this shrine, Link gained an ability called "Ascend," which gave him the ability to jump and phase through structures above him. Link completed the puzzle in the shrine and got another Light of Blessing. Once Link exited the shrine, he made his way to the Temple of Time to see if he could open the entrance.
Link got to the Temple of Time and opened the entrance. Once he walked inside, he saw a large yellow floating stone. As he approached, he saw a vision of Zelda, who was in a ceremonial dress and floating. She extended her arm, which Link responded by doing the same with his new arm. Zelda disappeared and the vision ended. Rauru appeared behind Link, telling him that Zelda gave him a new ability, "Recall," which allowed Link to reverse the flow of time for objects, recalling them back to their earlier positions in time. Link used this ability to get to the back door of the temple so he could get off the Great Sky Island. Link tried to push the door open, but it drained his life force when he tried to open it. Rauru appeared and told Link that if he gained one more Light of Blessing he could be strong enough to open the door. Link and Rauru located one more shrine on the Great Sky Island, the Nachoyah Shrine, "The Ability To Rewind." Link used Recall to complete the puzzles in the shrine and got another Light of Blessing. Link made his way to the Temple of Time and offered the Lights of Blessing to a statue of Hylia, exchanging them for more health. With the increase in health, Link was able to open the door.
Rauru appeared and spoke to Link, telling him that he had a dangerous journey ahead of him, but from what he had seen, Link had the potential to do what Zelda promised. With that said, he vanished. Link walked outside the temple and saw a glowing altar. The Master Sword began to light up, with it speaking to Link, telling him to place it on the altar. Link did so, making the Master Sword disappear. It was immediately after that Link heard a large roar. He turned around, seeing a large white dragon burst through the sea of clouds, allowing Link to see the surface. Link realized that the dragon was new, but decided to investigate it later.
Lookout Landing[]
Link dived from the Great Sky Island to the Bottomless Bond. Once he swam to the shore, he saw that Hyrule Castle was floating and a large settlement where the Sacred Ground Ruins were. Link made his way to the settlement, with him completing the Jiosin Shrine along the way. Once Link completed the shrine, he noticed a large chasm in the ground with pools of gloom in the area around it. A Hylian named Daval warned Link not to get too close to the gloom and that if he had any questions about it, he could ask a woman named Josha about it at their base of operations, the settlement Link saw.
Link got to the settlement, which was called Lookout Landing. The place contained guards, vendors and a large telescope. Once he got there, the people there were surprised to see him, as he and Zelda had been missing ever since they investigated the source of the gloom. Robbie noticed Link and greeted him, telling him that he had been working on some new inventions with technology from the Zonai and that Purah was waiting for him at the room beneath the telescope. Link got there and met the Sheikah Josha, who turned out to be a child genius. Josha yelled that Link had returned, which made Purah run out of the room. Purah was surprised to see Link and Link told her everything that happened since he and Zelda went beneath Hyrule Castle. Purah told Link that strange things had been happening around Hyrule ever since he and Zelda vanished, which they called the Upheaval. Link offered check on Hyrule Castle as a start.
Link made his way to the castle, completing the Kyononis Shrine in Hyrule Castle Town Ruins. Once Link got to the First Gatehouse and saw that Hyrule Castle wa snot actually floating, but was actually lifted out of the ground by a large stone structure that had gloom littered throughout it. Link spoke to the Hylian Captain Hoz, who was in charge of Hyrule's military. He was surprised to see Link and wondered if that meant Zelda was safe too, but Link confirmed that she was still missing. Link offered to help Hoz with organizing the military, but the Hylian Toren yelled that he could see Zelda. Link and Hoz were shocked and saw Zelda in the same ceremonial dress that Link saw on the Great Sky Island. She looked at them, floated upwards and then vanished. Hoz told Link that he should let Purah know what happened.
Link went back to Lookout Landing and reported what happened to Purah. Purah then told Link that Zelda acting unusual like that was a great deal of concern. Josha then reported that the Skyview Towers were ready to be activated. Purah explained that the SKyview Towers were there to help with navigation around Hyrule and that it could update the map on the Purah Pad. Purah then told Link that it would be good to get some rest at the Emergency Shelter beneath Lookout Landing. The shelter provided free bedding, a kitchen, a goddess statue and other people who were helping to deal with the Upheaval. After Link got some rest, and bought some clothes and food from the market, he went back to Purah and Josha activated smoke signals that came out of the Lookout Landing Skyview Tower, indicating that it and the other Skyview Towers were ready to be activated. Link gave Purah the Purah Pad and she made some modifications to it, enabling it to sync with the Skyview Towers. She also gave Link a brand new paraglider to use. Link activated the Skyview Tower from the terminal at the entrance to it. Purah told Link to stand on the platform at the center of the Skyview Tower. As Link did so, guardian arms sprung out, much to Link's shock. The arms held him in place as they attached a spool of rope to his belt and connected the Purah Pad to the rope. Link was then launched miles into the sky, where he used the Purah Pad to scan his surroundings. The map on the Purah Pad then updated the area of both the surface and the sky was well. Once that was done, Link safely paraglided back down to Purah.
Purah congratulated Link on his successful Skyview Tower launch and said that it would make navigation around Hyrule easier if he did that with all Skyview Towers he came across. She then informed him of the regional phenomena happening across Hyrule in the Hebra, Gerudo, Eldin and Lanayru regions. Purah asked Link to investigate the regional phenomena around Hyrule, realizing that it and the continued absence of Zelda must be related. Link agreed and set off.
The Upheaval[]
The Upheaval completely changed Hyrule. Zonai technology was now abundant, with there being crystal refineries that traded Zonai energy and materials called zoanite for improvements to Link's energy cells, along with Zonai dispensaries to trade Zonai energy and zonaite for Zonai-created items. Sky islands not as large as the Great Sky Island also appeared. And worst of all, the weapons were corrupted by the gloom, making them much weaker. Before Link started to investigate the regional phenomena, he stopped at Kakariko and Hateno Village to check on how the villagers were dealing with the Upheaval. In Kakariko, large ruins fell on the village but luckily nobody was injured. Paya told Link of how she had gotten a visit from Zelda, who told her to not allow anyone near the ruins and vanished. Paya told Link of how suspicious her actions were, but decided to keep people away from the ruins just in case. Link reluctantly agreed and took the time to complete the Makasura Shrine while he was in Kakariko. In Hateno, Link witnessed an mayoral election go on between current mayor Reede and the designer Cece. The election resulted in Reede retaining his position as mayor, but Cece began to add life to Hateno. Link took the time to complete the Zanmik and Mayahisik Shrines while in Hateno. Link also discovered notes in Zelda's diary that she had made Champion's Leathers for Link to wear, which she hid in Hyrule Castle. Link went to Hyrule Castle and found them, activating the Serutabomac Shrine while he was there.
Shrines of Light[]
Like on the Great Sky Island, there are shrines located on the surface and on the sky islands. These tested Link's ability in combat and Link's puzzle solving skills, with sometimes the puzzle being how to allow the shrine to be opened. All these shrines provides Lights of Blessing that healed removed some of the gloom from Link's body and could be traded to goddess statues for improvements to health or stamina.
Caves[]
The Upheaval opened up entrances to caves. The caves contain new flora, materials to use and shrines.
New Monsters[]
The Upheaval unleashed several new monsters upon Hyrule. While not evil, there were still soldier constructs on the sky islands and sometime son the surface. Their superiors, the captain constructs were also a problem. And the most dangerous, the flux constructs, who were large automatons made up of Zonai cubes and could change their bodies into new attack forms. The bokoblins, moblins, lizalfos, lynels, moldugas, taluses and hinoxes gained stronger bodies and new weapons. Bokoblins even began to ride on top of Stone Taluses with weapons, creating Battle Taluses. Chuchus, wizzrobes, keese, octoroks and stal-enemies remained the same. Boss bokoblins, larger and stronger bokoblins began commanding small groups of bokoblins. Horriblins crawled and patrolled the caves. Likes were parasitic monsters that attached to walls and spat out rocks and elemental attacks. Evermeans were creatures that disguised themselves as trees and attacked travellers. Aerocudas were pterodactyl-like monsters that patrolled the skies. Large three-headed dragons, gleeoks, made their own territories and attacked whoever dared to get near them with elemental attacks. And Gloom Spawn, animate pools of gloom with long hands began to appear and try to suck the life out of those they could grab. With all these new monsters terrorizing Hyrule, the Monster Control Crew was created to fight back against them. Their success was well known, even if only temporary as the Blood Moon began to rise again. Also, the dragons Naydra, Dinraal and Farosh began to appear more often, though the white dragon Link saw on the Great Sky Island, which Hyrue began to call the Light Dragon, flew high above everybody else.
The Depths[]
The chasm that Link came across by the Jiosin Shrine was one of many that was created by the Upheaval. These led to an underground cavernous land called the Depths. This land is filled with gloom and almost entirely pitch black, but could be dispelled with roots that connected to the surface called lightroots, all located directly under shrines on the surface. Once Link activated the lightroots with Rauru's arm, the darkness was dispelled and the map on the Purah Pad was updated. Robbie and Link even met down in the Depths by the Nisoij and Iayusus Lightroots to test out the camera rune on the Purah Pad. Ponds, lakes and seas on the surfaces are large impenetrable walls of rock in the Depths. Mountains on the surface are large canyons in the Depths and vice versa. And towns on the surface are abandoned mines in the Depths. The Depths are also filled with lost spirits called poes that never moved on, which could be offered to statues called bargainer statues, located underneath the goddess statues on the surface, for gear unique to the Depths.
The Depths also has several monsters that were covered in gloom, making them stronger and making it more dangerous to fight them. The Depths also has large one-eyed frog monsters called froxes that had zonaite on their bodies, but could also inhale almost anything. There are coliseums scattered throughout the Depths, filled with monsters but also provided impressive gear once they were defeated. The Yiga Clan also operated down in the Depths, with them making use of the Zonai technology. Notes found throughout their many hideouts revealed that they also began to use their old hideout once again, along with new hideouts scattered throughout Hyrule. Link would use these notes to infiltrate the Yiga Clan as a mole and work to slowly dismantle their operations.
Regional Phenomena[]
Tulin of Rito Village[]
Link traveled through the Tabantha Frontier before coming across an uncharacteristic snow storm. The snow storm increased in tensity as he got closer to Rito Village. Once he got to Lake Totori, Link came across the headquarters of the Lucky Clover Gazette, a newspaper business spreading news of what was currently going on in Hyrule. There, he saw the Editor of the newspaper, Traysi, speaking to the Rito Penn. Traysi asked Link and Penn to report to her about what was going on in Hyrule, which Link agreed as he was going to travel around Hyrule anyway. Penn flew off to look for leads on stories.
Frozen Rito Village[]
The bridges across Lake Totori to get to Rito Village were destroyed, making Link rely on fires and pine cones to get to the village. Link stopped to complete the Gatakis Shrine and made his way through the village, noticing that it was mainly populated by the children of the village. At the top of the village, Link saw Teba, Saki and their son Tulin arguing. They noticed Link and welcomed him into the village, though said that they wished they could do it under better conditions.
Link told them of all that had occurred since he and Zelda had investigated the gloom. Tulin believed that a legend told throughout Rito Village, the Song of the Stormwind Ark, could be related to the blizzard and they should investigate it. Teba was firmly against it, as he didn't want to risk the lives of the Rito for the off-chance the legend was true. Tulin, frustrated, flew off. Teba asked Link to check on him and Link went to do so.
Chasing After Tulin[]
Link followed after Tulin towards the Hebra Trailhead Lodge. There, he saw Harth, who told him about the Stormwind Ark legend and that he saw Tulin fly towards Hebra Summit. The Rito had set up bonfires throughout the Hebra Mountains to make it easier for those to navigate through the blizzard. Link eventually caught up with Tulin at Talonto Peak, where he attempted to get his Swallow Bow back from some Aerocuda that had stolen it. Link offered to help Tulin get his bow back, which Tulin accepted. Tulin proved himself to be extremely useful by creating powerful gusts of wind similar to what Revali used. The two worked together and got the bow back. After they got the bow back, Tulin told Link about how he had seen Zelda get attacked by monsters. The two then heard a mysterious voice, telling them to come to it. It was then that the two noticed a large floating structure at the center of the blizzard, which was floating in the sky.
Rising Island Chain[]
Link and Tulin made their way to the center of the blizzard. There existed a set of floating blocks just underneath the blizzard called the Rising Island Chain. Link and Tulin made use of Tulin's ability and Link's skills to traverse to the top of the chain, with them defeating multiple Aerocudas, soldier and captain constructs, and even a Flux Construct I. Link also completed the Mayaumekis and Kahatanaum Shrines. As they got closer to the top of the island chain, the blizzard grew in intensity. The two also came across multiple flying boats with trampoline sails. The two took advantage of them and launched themselves above the blizzard before diving into it. It was then that the two saw the structure at the center of the blizzard, the legendary Stormwind Ark.
Wind Temple[]
As Link and Tulin landed on the ark, they noticed Zelda at the center of the ark, looking at something just below the deck before vanishing. Link tried to open the barrier that prevented them from seeing what Zelda saw, but that did not work. It was then that the voice Link and Tulin heard earlier spoke to them. It told them that the barrier would not open unless all five turbines located throughout the ark were unlocked.
Link and Tulin navigated through the ark to find the turbines. The two were able to activate them using Tulin's ability. Once the final turbine was unlocked, the two returned to the deck and watched the barrier open. Once the barrier was open, a large gust of wind sent them high in the air. It was then that a large ice insect creature emerged, Colgera. Tulin recognized it as the source of the blizzard and he and Link went to kill it. The creature proved itself to be able to open portals, create tornados, launch ice and be immune to damage. Luckily Link and Tulin discovered that its underbelly was made up of weak crystals that they could destroy with arrows or just dive through it. After an epic long aerial fight, Colgera was destroyed.
With Colgera's defeat, the blizzard quickly ceased. It was then that the two noticed a large stone floating a few feet above the deck. As the two approached it, they were sent to a misty dimension and saw a Rito wearing a Zonai mask. The Rito introduced himself as the Sage of Wind, calling Tulin his descendant. The Sage told Tulin and Link of how long ago, he and other Sages, using powerful objects called secret stones, had fought the Demon King and though they were nearly defeated, they were able to seal him. The Sage of Time, Zelda, spoke to him after the battle, telling him that the Demon King would eventually break free of the seal and put Hyrule at risk. She asked him to ensure that someone could help the swordsman Link fight the Demon King once the time came. The Sage asked Tulin to take his place as the Sage of Wind and help Link defeat the Demon King. Tulin quickly agreed and was dubbed the new Sage of Wind, along with gaining a secret stone. Tulin, feeling a serge of power, grasped Rauru's arm and added a ring to it. The ring, with the symbol of the Sage of Wind on it, could produce a projection of Tulin's spirit, creating an avatar that with its archery skills and wind ability, could fight alongside Link.
The two returned to Rito Village and told Teba and Saki about what happened. Teba expressed his pride in Tulin and told Link that the Rito were once again in debt to him. Tulin said that if he needed his help, he would be there to help in the fight.
Riju of Gerudo Town[]
Shrouded Gerudo Town[]
Link to the Gerudo Desert and noticed it mostly covered in a large sandstorm. The fluctuating heat and cold of the desert also made its way to the Gerudo Canyon. Luckily the sandstorm did not consume Kara Kara Bazaar, allowing Link to get there to rest for a while and to complete the Mayatat Shrine. Link spoke to some of the Gerudo guards stationed at the bazaar and a Hylian named Robsten, with them telling him how dangerous it was to go from there to Gerudo Town, as the sandstorm made it difficult to navigate and there were hostile creatures located along the path.
Link continued into the sandstorm before coming across the creatures he was told about, insectoid zombie-like monsters called gibdos. They proved themselves to be extremely resistant to physical damage, but if they were hit by elemental attacks, their bodies turned pale and could be easily cut down. As Link got to Gerudo Town, he saw that it was almost entirely abandoned aside from a few stragglers and was infested with gibdos. This did not stop Link from completing the Soryotanog Shrine and dealing with the gibdos. Link then entered the Gerudo Throne Room. After using a note he found depicting the Gerudo evacuation to the underground shelter, Link opened a chute and jumped in, ending up in the Gerudo Shelter.
Link's entrance into the shelter alarmed the Gerudo, who were originally going to throw him out because he was a voe. Fortunately, Buliara intervened, telling the Gerudo that Link had Riju's permission to be there. Link then told Buliara all that had happened since he and Zelda went to investigate the gloom and asked where Riju was. Buliara told Link that Riju was at the North Gerudo Ruins training. After resting and preparing himself, Link left the shelter and went to find Riju.
Defense Against the Gibdos[]
Link found Riju at the North Gerudo Ruins training with her scimitars and trying to attack a target dummy with her lightning but was having trouble aiming her lightning. Riju greeted Link who told her of what was going on in Hyrule. Riju quickly agreed to help Link and asked him to help her with her training. By shooting arrows at the intended target, Riju was able to properly aim the lightning. It was then that a Gerudo named Faundi appeared and told them about a gibdo swarm attacking Kara Kara Bazaar. The two then rushed over there.
Once at the bazaar, Link and Riju realized that the gibdos had created hives to spawn more of them to overwhelm the bazaar, with Riju saving Buliara from a group of gibdos that almost killed her. Link, Riju, Buliara and plenty of Gerudo warriors defended the bazaar against the gibdos. The hives proved resistant to everything but Riju's lightning, but the rest of the gibdos did not share that trait. After a tense battle, the gibdos were defeated. Once the battle was over, everyone saw Zelda appear and disappear, with multiple sand shrouds appearing to move towards Gerudo Town. Riju realized that Gerudo Town was in danger and everybody rushed to defend it.
As they got to Gerudo Town, Link and Riju heard a voice, beckoning them. The two ignored it for the time being. Link and Riju formed a defensive strategy as there were now three gibdo hives surrounding Gerudo Town from all entry points. Link then fused elemental materials to the weapons of the Gerudo so they could more easily kill the gibdos. Once the preparations were ready, the battle commenced. Link and Riju began the process of systematically destroying the hives, with them defended by flying gibdos called Moth Gibdos, while the rest of the warriors dealt with the rest of them. After a long battle, the gibdos were destroyed and the Gerudo and Link let out a victory cry.
Sand Storm Pillars[]
Once the battle was over, Riju went to the Gerudo Shelter and looked at a mural on the wall. The mural said "standing back-to-back with the throne, witness red pillars across a vast sea. Unite the pillars in light to reveal the lightning stone and open the way. You who can hear my voice, come to me. I await you." Riju thought the voice they heard and the mural were connected. Link realized he saw the pillars scattered throughout the sandstorm.
Link braved the weather and went to each of the pillars and saw that they each emitted a signal light. Link arranged them to form a massive triangle that converged on a strange mechanism. Riju went to the mechanism with Link and saw Zeld aagain before she disappeared. Riju then struck it with her lightning, making a temple rise from the ground to the southwest of Gerudo Town.
Lightning Temple[]
Link and Riju arrived at the temple, the Lightning Temple, and saw that the entrance was blocked by a large purple mechanism. Riju struck it with her lightning, but it did not open the door to the temple. Instead, a large gibdo emerged from a gibdo hive, Queen Gibdo. Riju recognized it as the source of the gibdo and the cause of the sandstorm. Link and Riju fought her and the gibdos she summoned to help it. Queen Gibdo displayed the same abilties as typical gibdos, along with being able to move much faster, create small sand shrouds and launch a deadly sand beam attack. After a short fight, Queen Gibdo retreated into the Lightning Temple. Riju and Link heard the voice again, beckoning them once more. Riju then struck the mechanism with her lightning once more and the two went into the Lightning Temple.
Once inside the temple, the two saw an elevator that could take them to the top floor of the temple and where Queen Gibdo likely was. It could only be activated by activating the mechanisms spread throughout the temple. Link and Riju did so by using Riju's ability. Once the final mechanism was activated, the temple's elevator was activated. Link and Riju took the elevator to the top floor and found Queen Gibdo waiting for them. This time, nobody would be running. After one more tense fight, with Queen Gibdo creating even more hives to assist her, Queen Gibdo was destroyed.
With Queen Gibdo's defeat, the sandstorm quickly ceased. It was then that the two noticed a large stone floating a few feet above the floor. As the two approached it, they were sent to a misty dimension and saw a Gerudo wearing a Zonai mask. The Gerudo introduced herself as the Sage of Lightning, calling Riju her descendant. The Sage told Riju and Link of how long ago, she and other Sages, using powerful objects called secret stones, had fought the Demon King and though they were nearly defeated, they were able to seal him. The Sage of Time, Zelda, spoke to her after the battle, telling her that the Demon King would eventually break free of the seal and put Hyrule at risk. She asked her to ensure that someone could help the swordsman Link fight the Demon King once the time came. The Sage asked Riju to take her place as the Sage of Lightning and help Link defeat the Demon King. Riju quickly agreed and was dubbed the new Sage of Lightning, along with gaining a secret stone. Riju, feeling a serge of power, grasped Rauru's arm and added a ring to it. The ring, with the symbol of the Sage of Lightning on it, could produce a projection of Riju's spirit, creating an avatar that with its sword skills and lightning ability, could fight alongside Link.
Riju and Link returned to Gerudo Town and told the Gerudo warriors what happened. With the Gerudo in his debt once again, Riju and the warriors announced to the rest of Gerudo Town that even though he was a voe, Link was the exception to their rule and was welcome in Gerudo Town at anytime. Buliara, though very worried about Riju, expressed her pride in her. Riju then promised that she would be there for any fight should he need her help.
Yunobo of Goron City[]
Drugged Goron City[]
Link travelled to the Eldin Canyon and noticed that it had greatly cooled down and that lakes once filled with lava were now barren. Link also saw gloom mist emerging from Death Mountain. Once Link got to Goron City, Link saw almost every adult Goron in a daze with pink eyes. Bludo and two Goron youth, Offrak and Slergo, greeted him and told Link of how weird everybody had been after eating marbled rock roast. It was then that Yunobo appeared, wearing a fur vest and a yellow mask and wielding a Boulder Breaker. Link told him of how Zelda was missing and what was going on in Hyrule. Yunobo informed him that the Gorons could not help him and that he had actually seen Zelda recently, as she was the one who gave him his mask. Bludo tried to protest, but Yunobo called him irrelevant, much to his and Link's shock. Yunobo then left, ordered Offrak and Slergo to come with him and went to YunoboCo HQ. Bludo wondered what he was going to do about Yunobo. Link told Bludo that he would speak to Yunobo and get to the bottom of why he was acting so strange.
Duel with Yunobo[]
Link followed Yunobo, Offrak and Slergo to YunoboCo HQ, with him completing the Marakuguc shrine along the way. Before he entered HQ, Oggrak and Slergo warned Link about the scorching temperatures in the HQ as it was filled with molten rock. Link prepared for the temperature and walked into HQ. Once inside, Link saw Yunobo speaking to Zelda. Zelda spread her arms wide, causing Yunobo to experience a severe headache. Yunobo's eyes went pink and attacked Link, Offrak and Slergo while Zelda vanished. Offrak and Slergo ran for cover while Link stood his ground. Yunobo had an ability that was an offensive version of Daruk's Protection. Link was able to trick Yunobo into ramming into marbled rock, temporarily dazing him and allowing Link to hit him in the face. After a short fight, Link destroyed the mask, bringing Yunobo out of his trance.
Link, Offrak and Slergo checked on Yunobo, with him revealing that everything was a blur since he put on the mask given to him by Zelda. Zelda appeared again and made the cave shake, causing marbled rocks to fall and block the entrance. Yunobo broke the rocks and the group left HQ. Offrak and Slergo were shocked that Zelda would do such a thing. Yunobo noticed the gloom mist coming out of Death Mountain, with Offrak and Slergo saying that he had went to investigate it once the Upheaval happened and then came back wearing the mask. Yunobo told Offrak and Slergo to head back to Goron City while he and Link properly investigated the mist.
Death Mountain Chasm[]
Link and Yunobo climbed to the top of Death Mountain, with Link completing the Sitsum Shrine along the way. Once the two got to a platform near the top, Yunobo said that this was where he saw Zelda and where she gave him the mask. The two then noticed Zelda walk near the chasm now located at the top of Death Mountain and vanished into smoke that arose from the chasm. Death Mountain began to shake and a large three-headed creature made up of marbled rock arose from the chasm, Moragia. Moragia attacked them, with flaming boulders similar to what Vah Rudania did. with Link and Yunobo running for cover. Using Zonai technology, Link created a mini airplane, with him piloting and Yunobo launching himself at Moragia to destroy its heads. After a short aerial battle, Moragia was destroyed. Once that was done, Yunobo resolved to find Zelda. Link and Yunobo then jumped into the chasm.
Fire Temple[]
Link and Yunobo safely landed in the Depths, with Link activating the Mustis lightroot. Yunobo looked around and saw marbled rocks all around them. The two then heard a voice, beckoning them towards a city in the Depths. The two made their way to the city, with Link activating the Misisi and Cugukaram Lightroots along the way. Once they got to the city, Yunobo recognized it as the lost city of Gorondia. The two then saw Zelda approach a large marbled rock. The two ran after her and Yunobo destroyed the rock, but Zelda vanished before they could reach her. Behind a door to a large room, they saw Zelda float and get apparently crushed by rock roast that converged on the ceiling. The door's padlocks were controlled by gongs scattered throughout Gorondia. They then heard the voice, telling them to unlock the door.
Link and Yunobo navigated through Gorondia and using Yunobo's ability hit each gong, breaking the padlocks. With the padlocks broken, the two entered the room where they saw Zelda, only to not find her. On the ceiling, the marbled rocks broke, before an arachnid-like creature with marbled rock legs, Marbled Gohma, fell down. It roared at them and Yunobo believed that Zelda was inside the monster. Link and Yunobo fought Marbled Gohma, with it being able to to climb on the walls extremely fast and able to launch large marbled rocks at them. Fortunately Yunobo's ability was able to break the rocks and Link's archery skills proved to be able to snipe Gohma from a distance. After an intense fight, Marbled Gohma was destroyed.
With Marbled Gohma defeated, the Gorons began to revert back to their old selves and the mist coming out of Death Mountain was no longer as intense. It was then that the two noticed a large stone floating a few feet above the floor. As the two approached it, they were sent to a misty dimension and saw a Goron wearing a Zonai mask. The Goron introduced himself as the Sage of Fire, calling Yunobo his descendant. The Sage told Yunobo and Link of how long ago, he and other Sages had fought the Demon King and though they were nearly defeated, they were able to seal him. The Sage of Time, Zelda, spoke to him after the battle, telling him that the Demon King would eventually break free of the seal and put Hyrule at risk. She asked him to ensure that someone could help the swordsman Link fight the Demon King once the time came. The Sage asked Yunobo to take his place as the Sage of Fire and help Link defeat the Demon King. Yunobo quickly agreed and was dubbed the new Sage of Fire, along with gaining a secret stone. Yunobo, feeling a serge of power, gave Link a fist bump and added a ring to Rauru's arm. The ring, with the symbol of the Sage of Fire on it, could produce a projection of Yunobo's spirit, creating an avatar that with its club skills and offensive ability, could fight alongside Link.
Link and Yunobo returned to Goron City. Link and Yunobo told Bludo, Offrak and Slergo what happened. Yunobo apologized for what he did but they forgave him as it wasn't his fault. Yunobo vowed to find out what was going on with Zelda and that if Link needed help with any fight he would be there to help him.
Sidon of the Zora[]
Sludge-Covered Domain[]
Link travelled to the Lanayru Great Spring and noticed that it was mostly covered in sludge. As he got near Zora's Domain, he saw that it was also covered in sludge. Once he got to the domain, he noticed some of the Zora were also covered in the sludge and apparently in pain. After completing the Mogawak Shrine, Link saw a group of Zora surrounding a statue that was covered in sludge. After clearing the sludge off the statue, the Zora realized that Link was there. One of the Zora was Yona, making this their first meeting. Link told Yona all that had happened across Hyrule and Yona said that she would do everything in her power to help Link.
Yona told Link that the sludge was venomous to the Zora. She then told Link that Sidon was at Mipha Court, a newly built location honoring Mipha on Ploymus Mountain now that the lynel was gone. Yona also said that she could repair Link's Zora Armor if he got her Ancient Arowanas. Once Link got the fish, Yona repaired the Zora Armor, allowing Link to get to Mipha Court. After completing the Ihen-a Shrine, Link came across Sidon, wielding a Lightscale Trident, focusing on the water. Sidon was overjoyed to see Link. Link told Sidon of what had happened. Sidon told Link that King Dorephan was missing and that he had assigned a Zora historian to see if the sludge was connected to the risen sky islands . Sidon said that he was staying at Mipha Court to clear it of sludge using his water manipulation ability, which in turn could be used to clear the domain of the sludge.
Clues to the Sky[]
The Zora Sidon assigned to finding the connection was named Jiahto, who was at Toto Lake. Jiahto had found an ancient tablet, but it was broken in half and the other half was missing. Link found the other piece, cleared it of sludge and brought it back to Jiahto using Ultrahand. Jiahto read the tablet, with it saying "stand upon the land of the sky fish, and behold its lofty view. Among the floating rocks you see, a droplet waits for you. Through this droplet, shoot an arrow with the mark of the king. Do this task, and you shall reveal a most wondrous thing. See the watery bridge's resting spot with your own two eyes...that which connects the Zora to the people of the skies."
Link sought out King Dorephan, finding him and Muzu in the Pristine Sanctum behind the waterfall of Mikau Lake. Dorpehan was injured by the sludge, with him saying that Zelda had unleashed a sludge creature on him. Link told Dorpehan of the inscription on the tablet, who decided to give him five some of his own scales. Dorephan then asked Link to tell Sidon that he was ok. Link returned to Mipha Court and told Sidon of Dorephan's whereabouts, to Sidon's relief. Sidon told Link of how a sky island they called Floating Scales Island could be the island mentioned in the inscription.
Link, using his paraglider and Zora armor, made it to Floating Scales Island. After standing at the southwest corner of the island and shooting an arrow fused with one of Dorephan's scales towards what floating rubble made to look like a tear, a green portal was created in the middle of the East Reservoir Lake. Link returned to Sidon, who Yona had also come to see. Yona noticed that something was troubling Sidon. Before Sidon could elaborate, the sludge monster that had attacked Dorephan, the Sludge Like, appeared. Link and Sidon immediately engaged the monster. The monster had the physiology and weakness of a typical like like, with its uvula being its weakness, but could also shoot clumps of sludge. Fortunately Sidon's water ability, which could be used to create an all encompassing shield of water or a sharp water blast proved to be a natural counter to the sludge, allowing him and Link to kill it.
Once the Sludge Like was defeated, Yona recognized what was troubling Sidon — he was afraid of possibly losing her like he did with Mipha during the Great Calamity. Yona affirmed that she would be alright and that Sidon can't worry about her too much when he has a job to do. Sidon thanked her for he words and declared his love for her.
Ancient Zora Waterworks[]
Link and Sidon went to the East Reservoir Lake. Sidon jumped in the lake and swam around the portal, creating a whirlpool to reach what ever was underneath the lake. Link jumped into the whirlpool and was sucked in. Link landed in an underground water factory called the Ancient Zora Waterworks. He saw the portal's light at the center of the waterworks. After clearing the drains of rubble allowing the water to rise high enough for Link to get to the center. When Link got to the light, he saw a projection of a hand. Link put Rauru's hand up to the projection, which disappeared. Above him, the portal's light shot upwards towards a large cluster of sky island, causing a large waterfall to begin pouring into the East Reservoir Lake.
Water Temple[]
Link exited the Ancient Zora Waterworks and met up with Sidon at the bottom of the waterfall. A voice then spoke to them, telling them to come to it. Link and Sidon then swam up the waterfall to Wellspring Island, where they felt gravity become much lighter. Link and Sidon traversed through the island, with Link completing the Igoshon Shrine and the two of them defeating a Flux Construct II along the way. The two of them eventually reached the Water Temple, a giant wellspring in the sky.
Link and Sidon saw the hand projection towards a large cluster of sludge on the main floor of the temple. Link interacted with the projection, causing one large tube of water to spray water on the sludge. The voice spoke to Link and Sidon once again, asking them to purify the temple, which could be done by activating the faucets spread through the temple. Link and Sidon activated all the faucets by using Sidon's water ability. Once again, Link interacted with the projection, causing the large tubes to wash away all the sludge. But an animate pool of sludge appeared behind them. Link and Sidon saw it and witnessed the Mucktorok, an unusually-shaped octorok jump out of the sludge and roar at them. It then jumped back into the sludge, morphing it around its body to form a large sludge shark. The creature proved itself to be extremely quick, able to jump large distances and launch waves of sludge at Link and Sidon. Fortunately Sidon's ability was able to disperse the sludge, making it vulnerable to attacks. After an intense low-gravity fight, the Mucktorok was destroyed.
Following the Mucktorok's defeat, the sludge in Lanayru began to wash away. It was then that the two noticed a large stone floating a few feet above the floor. As the two approached it, they were sent to a misty dimension and saw a Zora wearing a Zonai mask. The Zora introduced herself as the Sage of Water, calling Sidon her descendant. The Sage told Sidon and Link of how long ago, she and other Sages, using powerful objects called secret stones, had fought the Demon King and though they were nearly defeated, they were able to seal him. The Sage of Time, Zelda, spoke to her after the battle, telling her that the Demon King would eventually break free of the seal and put Hyrule at risk. She asked her to ensure that someone could help the swordsman Link fight the Demon King once the time came. The Sage asked Sidon to take her place as the Sage of Water and help Link defeat the Demon King. Sidon quickly agreed and was dubbed the new Sage of Water, along with gaining a secret stone. Sidon, feeling a serge of power, grasped Rauru's arm and added a ring to it. The ring, with the symbol of the Sage of Water on it, could produce a projection of Sidon's spirit, creating an avatar that with its trident skills and water ability, could fight alongside Link.
Link and Sidon returned to Zora's Domain and told everybody of what happened. Dorpehan, healed from the sludge, expressed his pride in Sidon and believed it was time for Sidon to take the Zora throne. Sidon was initially shocked, but agreed. As the new king, he officially married Yona with Link as the best man. After the wedding, Sidon said that he would be there for any fight should Link ever need his aid.
"Zelda"[]
Sightings Around Hyrule[]
Link's encounters with Zelda while dealing with the regional phenomena across Hyrule were not the only times Zelda was seen around Hyrule. The Lucky Clover Gazette received word that Zelda was seen at various locations around Hyrule. Traysi sent Penn and Link to investigate the sightings.
The sightings were all proven to be fake. A few of them were traps created by the Yiga Clan to kill Link, with some of them disguising themselves as Zelda to lower Link's guard. The rest proved to be a series of coincidences that led to people believing Zelda was nearby, such as tools going missing or a lady obsessing over her flowers.
Crisis at Hyrule Castle[]
Link returned to Lookout Landing after dealing with the regional phenomena around Hyrule. When he got there, he saw multiple people looking at the castle, with them saying that they saw what looked to be Zelda. Link spoke to Purah to tell her of the end of the regional phenomena. While they were speaking, the Blood Moon rose. Purah and Link were confused and Purah ran over to her telescope to look at the Blood Moon. Using her telescope, Purah saw the Blood Moon and to her shock, Zelda looking at them. She then vanished and the Blood Moon ended.
Link rushed over to Hyrule Castle and heard Zelda's voice, telling him to come to her. Link began chasing her through the castle and anytime he caught up to her, she vanished and a monster ambush began. After killing all the monsters in the castle, Zelda told Link to come to her in the sanctum.
Link went to the sanctum and saw Zelda there, with her overjoyed to see them. She then transformed the ruined sanctum to its state before the Calamity. She told Link to take in every detail of the sanctum, as it would be the last thing he ever saw. Zelda's voice distorted to match that of Ganondorf's. A projection of him appeared, with him recognizing Link as the one who has ruined his efforts to cripple Hyrule. Ganondorf believed it to be because of Rauru's arm that Link was successful. He then mocked Link for falling for his Zelda puppet, with Zelda reverting to her true form, Phantom Ganon. Ganondorf ordered Phantom Ganon to kill Link. Phantom Ganon and Link began an intense fight, with Phantom Ganon displaying proficiency with gloom weapons, the ability to make clones of himself and spread gloom. A furious Link cut down each and every Phantom Ganon clone and killed him.
Phantom Ganon's dead body floated, with the sanctum returning to its ruined state. Ganondorf spoke to Link, impressed with Link's fighting skills. Ganondorf destroyed Phantom Ganon's body and sent the gloom present in it at Link. Link braced himself for the attack, but the Sages arrived and deflected the gloom before it could touch him. Ganondorf looked at the Sages and realized they did not know who he was. He introduced himself to them and called them foolish for trying to stop him. He then sent them a vision of what he would do once he healed himself to his prime form — destroy the world and unleash chaos for all eternity. Ganondorf then disappeared. The Sages realized that their foe was impossibly powerful. Yunobo began to panic and said that they were essentially screwed, but riju calmed him down, realizing that Ganondorf was not powerful enough to kill them since he had vanished. Link and the Sages then left Hyrule Castle and went back to Lookout Landing to discuss a plan of attack.
Finding the Fifth Sage[]
Link, the Sages and Purah discussed the events of the battle at Hyrule Castle. They realized that Zelda was in the past and had been helping others to fight Ganondorf. Purah then pointed out that they were missing another Sage. The Sages went back to their people to find out what they could about the mysterious fifth Sage.
Ring Ruins[]
Link went to Kakariko Village, believing the mysterious ruins there could be the key to finding the fifth Sage. There, he spoke to Paya and the Zonai expert with her, Tauro, about what happened at Hyrule Castle. Paya then rescinded the fake Zelda's orders to not go near the ruins. Link explored the ruins, finding ancient tablets and took pictures of them. Link showed the pictures to Tauro and Paya. Tauro read the language on the tablets and realized they matched some inscriptions found in the Faron region by the Spring of Courage.
Ritual in Faron[]
Link and Tauro went to one of the inscriptions in the Faron region. Tauro read the inscription, which said to wear the ritual armor and offer a Zonai charge to the altars. Link travelled along the Dracozu River and found the armor, the Charged Shirt, Trousers and Headdress. Link wore the clothes and offered a Zonai charge to the altars spread across the river. Once he did so, the statues connected to the altars collectively attracted lighting from a thunderstorm above them. This caused the mist of the storm to disperse, revealing to Link and Tauro the Thunderhead Isles above them.
Thunderhead Isles[]
The Thunderhead Isles are a series of connected sky islands located above the Faron region. A persistent thunderstorm makes it difficult to traverse the islands, but Link did so, completing the Joku-usin and Joku-u shrines and destroying a Flux Construct III. At the end of the Thunderhead Isles is Dragonhead Island. Once Link got there, he saw a Zonai Relic on a pedestal at the center of the island with a Rauru hand projection next to it. Link interacted with the projection, opening a door. The relic then shot a light to the surface, with the voice telling LInk to follow the light.
Link followed the light and brought the relic to a Zonai pedestal on the surface. The pedestal made a nearby Zonai statue move, revealing a staircase and a platform. Link then placed the relic on the platform, which then descended through the Tobio's Hollow Chasm to the Depths. The voice told Link to hurry.
Construct Factory[]
The platform took Link to a place called the Construct Factory. Link saw a Zonai construct with only a torso. Link realized the relic was the head of the construct. The voice then spoke to Link, revealing that she was Mineru, the Sage of Spirit. Mineru then asked Link to go to the depots in the factory and retrieve the body parts so they can speak face to face. Link activated the Muokuij Lightroot and navigated through the Factory and brought the limbs to the construct. Once all the limbs were attached, the construct stood up with Mineru possessing it. Mineru thanked Link and said that they had to recover their secret stone.
Spirit Temple[]
Link and Mineru travelled through the Depths to find the secret stone, activating the Sijotu Lightroot along the way. Mineru's construct body proved to be a formidable weapon, as Mineru could fuse Zonai weapons to the body and help Link fight, with them slaying a Blue Hinox. The two eventually arrived at the location of the secret stone, the Spirit Temple. Mineru and Link went to the room with the secret stone before noticing that the floor was covered with gloom, forcing Link to ride on Mineru's back. As the two got close, barbed wires surrounded them and the guardian of the secret stone, the Seized Construct, jumped into the newly formed arena.
The Seized Construct was a construct that Mineru had made long ago. Mineru realized that Ganondorf had taken control of it and she and Link went to take it down. The Seized Construct also had Zonai weapons, great mobility and more arms than Mineru. Luckily, it could be damaged by knocking it into the barbed wire. After a Zonai rumbling, the Seized Construct was destroyed.
Mineru left the body of her construct and brought Link and her into a misty dimension. She said that she had been in the Purah Pad all these years, which is how the teleportation function of the pad was possible, though it would still be able to do so even though she was no longer in the pad. Mineru said that she had been instructed by Zelda to help Link. Mineru grasped Rauru's arm, making a ring with the symbol of the Sage of Spirit appear on it. With that ring, Link could summon a copy of the construct to fight alongside him.
Mineru told Link of how the Zonai had come to Hyrule all those years ago with the secret stones. Rauru even gave one to his wife, Sonia, who was the woman seen next to him in all the shrines. But Ganondorf had stolen the stone from her and unleashed his army on Hyrule. Rauru assembled the Sages to fight Ganondorf and his army, with Zelda and Mineru joining as Sages. But Ganondorf proved to be too powerful during their battle. Rauru, out of desperation, sacrificed his life to seal Ganondorf until Link could fight him in the future. After the battle, Mineru and Zelda spoke. Zelda, with the broken Master Sword, spoke of how she intended to swallow her secret stone to have the power to repair the Master Sword for Link to use in the future. Mineru objected, as swallowing a secret stone transformed one into a dragon but without their personality. Zelda was aware of the consequences but was also aware they had no other options. Mineru, fatally injured from the battle, eventually relented and said that she would transfer her spirit into the Purah Pad to help Link in the present. Mineru then said that Link had to find the Master Sword.
Dragon Tears[]
The Light Dragon flew high above Hyrule, not interacting with anyone or anything. However, it did cry, its tears falling onto the ground and creating geoglyphs. Link, realizing that something was strange about the dragon, went to each of the locations where the tears fell to find out what he could learn about the dragon.
The first tear fell on North Hyrule Plain near the New Serenne Stable. Once Link got there, he saw Impa investigating the geoglyph herself. She and Link used a hot balloon to get a good view of the geoglyph, before noticing a part of it that had a large puddle, the location of where the tear fell. When Link got near, Rauru's arm glowed, causing the tear to be reverse its fall in the air and burst midair. The tear then sent a vision to Link. Link saw Zelda appear in the middle of a forest asleep with the Purah Pad. Zelda woke up and saw Rauru and Sonia who introduced themselves to her. Zelda said that her name was Princess Zelda, which confused Rauru and Sonia as they were the king and queen. Zelda then realized that she had time travelled to the past.
The second tear fell on the Tabantha Hills near the Tabantha Village Ruins. Link got there and Rauru's arm interacted with the tear, sending a vision to Link. Link saw Zelda come to terms with the fact that she had time travelled to when Hyrule was founded. Sonia said that she felt a blood connection between her and Zelda, implying the two were distant relatives. Zelda told Rauru and Sonia that something bad was happening in her time and she needed to get back to help. Sonia then invited Zelda to Hyrule Castle and said that Rauru's sister, Mineru, might have some ideas on how to get Zelda back to her time.
The third tear fell on Trilby Plain. Link got there and Rauru's arm interacted with the tear, sending a vision to Link. Link saw Mineru examining the Purah Pad. Mineru told Zelda that one way Zelda could return to her time was by swallowing a secret stone to become a dragon, but it was forbidden as it would cause her to lose her personality. Zelda was disappointed, but Rauru said that they would find another way. Sonia then offered to teach Zelda more about her innate time and light powers.
The fourth tear fell near Batrea Lake near the Dueling Peaks. Link got there and Rauru's arm interacted with the tear, sending a vision to Link. Link saw Ganondorf and an group of Gerudo send a swarm of moldugas towards the Great Plateau in an attempt to conquer Hyrule. Rauru, using his secret stone, repelled the swarm using his light powers. Ganondorf then realized that in order to take over Hyrule, he would need to use a different approach.
The fifth tear fell near Sapphia's Table near the Birida Lookout Chasm. Link got there and Rauru's arm interacted with the tear, sending a vision to Link. Link saw Ganondorf pledge fealty to Rauru and the kingdom of Hyrule. Once Ganondorf left, Zelda told Rauru that Ganondorf had an agenda and that his name was too close to Calamity Ganon, making her suspect that he was the cause of it. Rauru was aware of Ganondorf having ulterior motives and assured her that Ganondorf being subservient to him made it easier to keep an eye on him.
The sixth tear fell on the Illumeni Pleateau. Link got there and Rauru's arm interacted with the tear, sending a vision to Link. Link saw Zelda, Rauru and Sonia enjoying tea in a garden. Sonia displayed her time powers and her technique, surprising Zelda. Sonia realized that Zelda must have a lot of her mind. Zelda spoke of some of the things she has had to deal with in her life, with Link's name coming up. When Rauru and Sonia asked about Link, Zelda spoke about how Link's heart was pure and that he was a skilled knight and that they greatly cared for each other. Rauru and Sonia gently teased Zelda about her and Link's relationship and asked Zelda to speak more about Link as that clearly made her happy.
The seventh tear fell on the Gogobi Shores near Lurelin Village. Link got there and Rauru's arm interacted with the tear, sending a vision to Link. Link saw Sonia speak with Zelda at night. Zelda then attacked Sonia by throwing a knife at her, but the knife stopped midair. Sonia spoke to Zelda, calling her a fake. The real Zelda revealed herself, displaying control of her time powers. The fake Zelda then vanished and Ganondorf appeared, impaling Sonia in the back. Sonia was wounded and Ganondorf took her secret stone, laughing the entire time.
The eighth tear fell on the North Tabantha Snowfield near the Oshozan-u Shrine. Link got there and Rauru's arm interacted with the tear, sending a vision to Link. Link saw the immediate aftermath of the attack on Sonia. Rauru appeared and attempted to attack Ganondorf, but Zelda called him back so they could treat Sonia's wound. Rauru and Zelda, carrying Sonia, fled the scene. Ganondorf embraced the power of the secret stone, transforming into a more demonic form. He then unleashed the Blood Moon and hundreds of monsters, beginning his war against Hyrule.
The ninth tear fell on the Talus Plateau near the Yomizuk Shrine. Link got there and Rauru's arm interacted with the tear, sending a vision to Link. Link saw Rauru assemble the Sages. Rauru reveal that Sonai did not survive the attack and that Ganondorf threatened to destroy Hyrule and everything they held dear. The Sages, with their secret stones, pledged their loyalty to Rauru and Hyrule, vowing to fight Ganondorf, or as he had been called recently, the Demon King.
The tenth tear fell on near Lake Hylia. Link got there and Rauru's arm interacted with the tear, sending a vision to Link. Link saw Rauru and Zelda speaking the night before the two fought Ganondorf. Zelda says that she saw Ganondorf in the future, meaning that they would lose the fight. Rauru said that he would do what he had to, as their battle will give Link the chance to ensure that Ganondorf met his end in the future, calling Link their last line of defense.
The eleventh tear fell near the Sikukuu Shrine. Link got there and Rauru's arm interacted with the tear, sending a vision to Link. Link saw Zelda examining the Master Sword. Zelda spoke to the sword, which had recently time travelled as well. The sword spoke to Zelda, telling her that Link was safe in the present. Zelda realized that she had time travelled for a reason and that she knew what she had to do.
After Link went to each of the tear locations, the Light Dragon roared and flew over the Rist Peninsula in Akkala and shed one last tear. Link got there and completed the Gemimik Shrine and examined the tear, which did not create any geoglyph. Link saw Zelda at an altar carrying the Master Sword. Zelda confirmed with a Steward Construct that Mineru had the Purah Pad and to follow her instructions clearly. Zelda, steeling her nerves, swallowed her secret stone. Zelda shaking, yelled to Link, begging him to protect them all. With that, her eyes went blue and a large explosion of light occurred. Out of the light, the Light Dragon, revealed to be Zelda all this time, flew into the sky and vanished.
Link emerged from the vision with tears in his eyes, realizing the sacrifice that Zelda had made. Link heard the Light Dragon roar in the sky and looked up to see the Light Dragon soaring in the sky. Link then saw that around him, a large amount of Silent Princesses grew.
Revitalized Master Sword[]
After returning to Lookout Landing, Purah told Link that the next course of action would be to reclaim his blade, the Master Sword. Since the most likely person to know where it is is the Great Deku Tree, Link headed to the Great Hyrule Forest to speak to the tree. Unfortunately, when he got there, the entrance was sealed off by a purple mist. With no other way to get to the center of the forest, Link decideded to go under the mist through the Depths by using the Minshi Woods Chasm. While traversing through the Depths area under the Great Hyrule Forest, he discovered the Minshi Grove, the Korok Grove and the Forest Coliseum, where two Yiga members unleashed a Black Hinox in an attempt to kill him, though Link was able to defeat it. Once he reached the Korok Grove, Link ascended to the surface using an ascend point, where he appeared in the middle of the Korok Forest, though he noticed that something was very wrong.
All of the Koroks appeared to be in a daze, with them barely reacting to Link's presence. The Great Deku Tree didn't even respond to him, as it felt sick. He then went to the Great Deku Tree's Navel, where he noticed a small chasm. After jumping down, he reached the very foundation of the tree, but he was not alone down there. A Gloom Spawn was down there, the source of the poisoning of the Great Deku Tree. Luckily, Link was able to defat it, as well as the resulting Phantom Ganon. After the monster's defeat, a few Koroks thanked Link and told him the Great Deku Tree wished to speak to him. After getting out of the chasm, Link and the Great Deku Tree spoke, where the Great Deku Tree asked where the Master Sword is, to which Link responded with telling him of the events that had taken place since he and Zelda first investigated the gloom. It was then that the Great Deku Tree tried to focus on the Master Sword's location. He found out that it was moving and placed its location on the Purah Pad map. Link thanked him and went to reclaim the sword.
The Master Sword was lodged in the mane of the Light Dragon, who started flying closer to the surface. Using the Skyview Towers, Link launched himself onto the Light Dragon. As Link grasped the Master Sword, the Light Dragon roared in pain and attempted to shake Link off of her. Link held on as the Light Dragon struggled and then eventually calmed down. The Light Dragon transported them into a dimension of clouds and loosened the Master Sword to make it easier for Link to pull it out.
Link slowly pulled the Master Sword and felt its ethereal power. Link felt a vision of Zelda speak to Link, telling him that after a long bath in the power of the Light Dragon, it will prove to be able to end Ganondorf once and for all and hoped that it would reach him in the future. Link, pressed his face to the Master Sword, grateful for Zelda's blessing. The Light Dragon then dropped Link off on the Great Sky Island.
Hunting Master Kohga[]
Link returned to Lookout Landing and told Purah of what he had learned and that he had reclaimed the Master Sword. Purah then said that their goal was now to destroy Ganondorf once and for all. They then needed to find his location so they could do so. Link believed that the Yiga Clan knew where he was and looked for any notes they had. The notes said that their most important operations were in the Depths, so Link went down there.
Link found the Great Abandoned Central Mine in the Depths under the Great Plateau. Link found some Zonai researchers, who revealed themselves to be Yiga footsoldiers. It was then that their leader, Master Kohga appeared, having survived the fall all those years back. Master Kohga, swearing revenge on Link, said that he had learned some new tools to help him kill Link and use to help the "Magnificent One" end the world.
Kohga and a few footsoldiers attacked Link with a spiky Zonai vehicle, but was defeated. Kohga fled to the Abandoned Gerudo Mine. Link, realizing Kohga had information on where Ganondorf was, tracked him to the mine, which was under Gerudo Town. Kohga and a few footsoldiers attacked Link with a flying vehicle, but was again defeated. Kohga then fled to the Abandoned Lanayru Mine. Link tracked Kohga to the mine, which was under Zora's Domain. Kohga and a few footsoldiers attacked Link with a speedboat, but was again defeated. Kohga then fled to the Abandoned Hebra Mine. Link tracked Kohga to the mine, which was under Rito Village. This time, Kohga was alone. Resolving to finish Link right then and there, Kohga laughed, said that he would join the Magnificent One under Hyrule Castle after he killed Link and summoned his ultimate weapon — a construct similar to Mineru's and the Seized Construct. But Link wasn't playing any games and subdued Kohga. Before Link could finish Kohga, rockets from the construct launched and dragged Kohga. Kohga swore that he would get his revenge as the rockets took him into the air and to an unknown location.
Demon King Ganondorf[]
With the Sages awakened, Link in possession of the Master Sword and the location of Ganondorf known, Link went to end the evil that plagued Hyrule for millennia once and for all. Link jumped into the Hyrule Castle Chasm and to the Camobatures Lightroot, activating it. Link continued deeper into the Depths, killing plenty of monsters that became stronger the deeper he got. Eventually, Link got so deep into the Depths that the avatars of the Sages could no longer help him. Link reached the Forgotten Foundation where he and Zelda were when they first investigated the gloom. Link continued deeper, coming across the Imprisoning Chamber. After jumping into the hole that Ganondorf had created, Link reached Gloom's Lair. Link then came across a large drop to a wooden platform below.
Link dived down and paraglided safely to the platform. When he landed, a swarm of bokoblins appeared and attempted to attack him. Before the first one could lay the first blow, it was killed by an arrow. The arrow was revealed to have been shot by Tulin, who had come to Link's aid. Link then realized that all the Sages had come, ready to help Link destroy Ganondorf. The group then got ready to do battle. The group fought through waves of bokoblins, lizalfos, gibdos and moblins.
Once the monsters were slain, some gloom dispersed revealed and entrance into a large pile of rubble. Before the group could get to the entrance, the monsters they had slain at the temples suddenly appeared as a last attack. The Sages told Link that they had already killed the monsters and that they could do so again so Link could continue on his own. Link continued onwards and came across Ganondorf meditating on a platform. Ganondorf called Link an unworthy foe and that the world should be covered in darkness. Ganondorf said that as a king, he would crush any opposition no matter who it was. The Menace Unleashed on the world jumped from the platform and declared that Link faced the birth of his new world.
Ganondorf unsheathed his Gloom Sword and Link unsheathed the Master Sword. The two began an deadly sword fight, with them being the most skilled opponent the other had faced. Ganondorf's sword skills, skills with other weapons at his disposal, overwhelming strength, quick speed and proficiency with gloom put Link to the ultimate test. But Link was on a mission to avenge the people that Ganondorf had hurt. Link's sword skills, own large inventory of equipment, quick speed and the power of the Master Sword fought off Ganondorf. This impressed Ganondorf, who took on his more demonic form. Ganondorf said that he would take more from Link than his arm and the two continued their fight. Ganondorf summoned clones to overwhelm Link, but the Sages arrived to even the odds. The Sages fought the clones while Link and the real Ganondorf continued their duel. The Sages eventually defeated the clones. Ganondorf then unleashed a gloom wave that incapacitated everyone but Link. Link and Ganondorf continued their brutal fight, with neither backing down until the other was a corpse. After a long dance of the warriors, Link proved to be the victor. Ganondorf was unable to accept his loss and vowed that he would destroy the world. With that vow, Ganondorf swallowed his secret stone.
Ganondorf swallowing his secret stone transformed him into a large dragon filled and covered with gloom, the Draconified Demon King, the Demon Dragon. The Demon Dragon nabbed Link in his jaws, leaving the sages and taking the two into the sky. As Link tried to look for a way out, he heard a roar. The Light Dragon had arrived to help Link, Zelda's devotion to Link proving to be persevere despite thousands of years as a dragon. The Demon Dragon roared at the Light Dragon, allowing Link to break free and start falling. The Demon Dragon attempted to bite the Light Dragon, who dodged and caught Link with her mane. The Light Dragon and Link stared down the Demon Dragon. Link unsheathed Master Sword once more, it glowing with holy light. The Demon Dragon, hating the light of the sword made to kill him, roared. Link and the Light Dragon began an aerial battle against the Demon Dragon. With the Light Dragon acting as a distraction while the Demon Dragon launched gloom and tried to bite her, Link dived through the air and destroyed the fleshy sports on the Demon Dragon's back. After an incredible aerial battle, the Demon Dragon launched a storm of gloom at the duo. The Light Dragon launched Link at the Demon Dragon and he dodged the gloom and landed on the Demon Dragon's head. Link saw the secret stone was embedded in the Demon Dragon's head. Link used the Master Sword to crack the stone. Link, with righteous fury coursing through him, plunged the Master Sword into the secret stone. The Demon Dragon, roaring in pain, shook Link off of him, who the Light Dragon caught. With one last roar, the Demon Dragon exploded into a mess of smoke and holy light, the nightmare that plagued Hyrule for all those years, gone for good.
Link breathed a sigh of relief as the battle had been won. As Link sheathed the Master Sword, Rauru's arm began to glow. Link and the Light Dragon were transported into a sacred Zonai realm, floating in the air. Link looked down at the Light Dragon, who had closed her eyes. Link then felt Rauru's arm use the Recall ability on the Light Dragon. The spirits of Rauru and Sonia then appeared and gave their energy to Link, who focused on the Recall. Eventually, the Light Dragon transformed into Zelda to right before she swallowed her secret stone. Rauru's arm also faded away and Link's original arm was returned. As Rauru and Sonia began to fade away, they thanked each other for all they had done for each other. Link, overjoyed at having his arm and Zelda back, closed his eyes as he and Zelda left the dimension.
Link awoke as he was falling from the sky. He gasped as he noticed that Zelda was also falling and still unconscious. Link dived down to Zelda as they fell and grabbed her hand like he had failed to do so when they first encountered Ganondorf. Link, embracing Zelda, safely landed into a large pond. Link carried Zelda out of the pond and stood by her until she awoke. Zelda awoke and was originally confused to see Link but she quickly realized that she was back in her time. The Master Sword spoke to Zelda, telling her that her plan had worked. Zelda realized that Ganondorf has been vanquished, which Link and the Master Sword confirmed. Zelda was ecstatic to be back home and started to tell Link everything that had happened since she vanished.
A New Era[]
Link, Zelda, Purah and the Sages went to the Great Sky Island, as Mineru had something she wished to show them. Mineru, in her spirit form, said that it was time for her to move on.
Mineru said that the other Sages and Link were more than enough to protect Hyrule from any future threats. The Sages and Link pledged their loyalty to Zelda and vowed to protect Hyrule forever.
Mineru was glad to hear this and promised to tell Rauru and Sonia. With Mineru gone, Zelda declared a new era of Hyrule, one filled with Zonai technology and technology, new Sages to hep protect it, and of course, the man she cared about more than anyone else, Link.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity[]
Taking place in an alternate timeline from the events of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, Link is serving as a knight in the Hyrulean Army under King Rhoam. During a battle against Calamity Ganon's monsters in Hyrule Field, Link comes across Terrako, who traveled back in time to prevent the Great Calamity from occuring. Spotting Impa as she flees from some Bokoblins, in the process, she drops the Sheikah Slate she was carrying. As Link moves to catch it, Terrako activates and summons the Sheikah Tower. After the monsters are routed, Link and Impa meet up with Zelda, only for Terrako to come rushing past towards the princess, forcing Link to grab it and restrain it. After learning that it has some sort of message for Zelda, they take Terrako to be looked at by Robbie and Purah, only to be attacked by a corrupted Guardian Stalker on the way there, but Terrako activates some Decayed Guardians to weaken it for Link to slay it. After learning of the Great Calamity looming from Terrako's memory banks, Link joins Zelda and Impa to recruit the Champions for the Divine Beasts to try and stop it.
First up is Zora's Domain, where while Zelda and Impa meet with King Dorephan to convince him to have his daughter, Crown Princess Mipha, pilot Divine Beast Vah Ruta against Calamity Ganon, Link meets up with Mipha himself, who is instantly taken in by Terrako and how cute it is. However, a Zora guard arrives to tell her that monsters from Ploymus Mountain are heading for Zora's Domain. King Dorephan has deployed to lead the defense himself, but there is no sign of Mipha's younger brother, Prince Sidon. Mipha, with Link's support, agrees to look for him herself, and they find him trying to face the Red-Maned Lynel that lives on Ploymus Mountain. After they chase it off, Mipha reunites with Sidon, but it is soon discovered that the Lynel has regrouped and is leading more of Ganon's monsters to attack Zora's Domain. Mipha mans Vah Ruta to drive them off, saving her father from being attacked by an Electric Moblin, and Dorephan is convinced to allow Mipha to pilot Vah Ruta under the surmise and promise she comes back alive.
Traveling to the volcanic Death Mountain to recruit the Goron Champion in the stalwart Daruk, he is more than happy to join Link and the others, but first needed to retrieve Vah Rudania from Death Mountain's summit where it was laying dormant, but the path is guarded by more of Ganon's monsters, which also threaten the Goron mining operations. After dealing with any enemy forces that threaten the mines, Daruk, Link, and the others finally make it to the summit, and after dealing with the Igneo Talus that guarded the summit, Daruk gets into Vah Rudania and easily clears out all the remaining monsters on the way down the volcano's slope. After agreeing to become the Goron Champion and pilot of Vah Rudania, Daruk, thinking Link must have worked up an appetite from all that fighting, offers him a Prime Rock Roast to eat. Link digs in heartily, much to Zelda, Impa, and Terrako's shock, while Daruk promises to have extra next time for Zelda and Impa, much to Zelda's uneasy gratitude.
Next stop was Rito Village to recruit the master archer Revali. However, before Link and company arrive, Rito Village had been attacked previously by Ganon's monsters, and Revali and his kinsmen were wary of further attacks. Spotting Link and Terrako, assuming them to be more of Ganon's forces coming to attack them, Revali has the Rito move to attack them, destroying the bridge to Rito Village, and attempting to rain bomb arrows on them from above. When Link finally reaches the village, Revali personally engages him in battle, and just when Revali has Link at his mercy and prepares to kill him at point-blank range with one of his arrows, Zelda's shout to stop causes Revali to hesitate long enough for Link to block the fatal shot. Once the misunderstanding is cleared up, Revali is more than happy to pilot Divine Beast Vah Medoh, but still has his doubts about Link being the Chosen One to help seal away Calamity Ganon, calling him a "pathetic knight".
Finally, the last stop was Gerudo Town to recruit Zelda's good friend, the Gerudo Chieftain Urbosa. However, for some reason, the Gerudo treat Link, Zelda, and Impa with hostility, forcing them to fight their way to town to confront Urbosa in her palace. Once there, the vai honor guards block them in as Urbosa draws her Scimitar of the Seven, preparing to kill Zelda herself. Before Link can draw his own sword to block the attempt as Urbosa lunges to strike, she is struck by lightning, electrocuting her so badly she instantly collapses unconscious, before another Urbosa reveals herself having been the one to unleash the lightning, and proving she's the authentic one by calling Zelda by her nickname, "Little Bird". The Urbosa that tried to strike down Zelda is forced to reveal herself to actually be Master Kohga, leader of the Yiga Clan, who summons his own Yiga Clan warriors to face Link, Zelda, Urbosa, Impa, and their forces while he retreats to their base camp outside of Gerudo Town. After dealing with his Blademasters leading the attack in town, and summoning the Molduga to scare off the rest of them in the desert, Link and Urbosa soon attack Kohga's base camp and defeat him. Cornered, Kohga prepares to either be detained or executed, but is rescued by his elite second-in-command, Sooga, and the two of them escape capture, much to Urbosa's chagrin. Meeting up with Link, Zelda, and Impa at Divine Beast Vah Naboris, Urbosa explains about the Yiga Clan and their origins as Sheikah traitors allied with Calamity Ganon, much to Impa's disappointment that some of her kinsmen are still clinging to their hatred of the Hyrule Royal Family for their past transgressions against the Sheikah. Nevertheless, Urbosa agrees to join the fight and become Vah Naboris' pilot and Champion out of her loyalty and friendship with Zelda due to being such good friends with Zelda's late mother, the Queen of Hyrule.
After the Champions are gathered, Zelda, Link, Terrako, and the Champions are ambushed by the Yiga and Ganon's monsters, led by Sooga, in Castle Town. Link takes Zelda and retreats to cover while the Champions fight the Yiga and Ganon's monsters, but this was to lure them away while Sooga forces Link and Zelda back out into the open and attempts to assassinate the Princess. Link manages to block Sooga's kunai he throws at Zelda, and realizing continuing the fight was futile, Sooga orders a retreat. Terrako, on the other hand, scolds Link for disrupting its attempt to protect Zelda from Sooga's kunai, much to her amusement.
From there, Link, Zelda, and the Champions head into Korok Forest to retrieve the Master Sword. However, upon meeting up with Hestu, he reveals that the forest is crawling with monsters and he's too scared to fight them on his own. The Champions offer to help, and with their aid, Hestu escorts them through the forest. Along the way, they find that Malice is blocking the way to the Sacred Grove, despite Calamity Ganon still being dormant. This was the result of dark, Malice-born, copies of the Champions, known as Hollows. As each one is defeated, the Malice melts away until the way is clear again. However, upon Link and Zelda reaching the Sacred Grove, they encounter Astor, the Dark Prophet allied with Calamity Ganon. Summoning the Hollows again to attack Link, despite his fierce resistance, the Mipha Hollow catches Link's Hyrulean Army standard-issue sword in the prongs of her Lightscale Trident and snaps it in two, the Revali Hollow lays down a smokescreen with his Malice arrows, and the Daruk Hollow clobbers Link hard on his Hyrulean Army standard-issued shield with his Boulder Breaker, sending Link reeling back against the Master Sword's pedestal, incapacitating him. With Link down, Astor orders the Hollows to terminate Zelda. As the Urbosa Hollow lunges at Zelda to deliver the death blow or draw first blood with stabbing her in the face and head with her Scimitar of the Seven, Link, horrified to see Zelda about to die, reaches out in futility. This causes the Master Sword and Fi to awaken, with the light emitted from the Master Sword being unbearable for the Hollows to endure, stopping the Urbosa Hollow inches from the tip of her scimitar slicing into Zelda's face before the Hollows groan and dissolve, unable to maintain their forms against the Blade of Evil's Bane's positive light energy. Realizing what this means, Link draws the Master Sword from its pedestal, and now armed with the sword, and the Hylian Shield paired with it, Link faces the Hollows and decimates them, forcing Astor to personally enter battle, but he is forced to retreat due to the Master Sword being too powerful to face at the moment. With Astor gone, Link, Zelda, and the Champions meet the Great Deku Tree, who assures Zelda not to worry as they have everything they need to face the Great Calamity, and Hyrule's fate lies in their hands before he returns to his slumber.
Despite what the Great Deku Tree said, Zelda is still uncertain of herself after seeing Link with the Master Sword on his back. Noticing her plight, Terrako plays her Lullaby to ease her fears. However, more of Ganon's monsters are spotted ahead, and Link joins the Champions with clearing the way safely back to Hyrule Castle. Once in the clear, while Link is commended by Daruk and the other Hyrulean Soldiers and digs in to some more food they offer him, Urbosa joins Zelda to reassure her Link is still the same boy from before he acquired the Master Sword.
Once back in Castle Town, Link is officially dubbed Champion and given his Champion's Tunic alongside those of Urbosa, Revali, Daruk, and Mipha. Afterwards, he and Urbosa join Zelda and Purah as Link uses the Sheikah Slate to summon the other Sheikah Towers across Hyrule, before having to deal with Sooga and the Yiga having captured Akkala Citadel and its tower to prevent its use against the Yiga Clan. After defeating Sooga and a Blue-Maned Lynel, forcing Sooga to call a withdrawal, the Citadel is back in Hyrule's control and they are soon able to track down the Yiga Clan's main hideout. Once Urbosa clears the way with Vah Naboris, Link and her assault the Yiga, and despite Kohga and Sooga's best efforts in trying to defend their main base, they are defeated and routed.
Despite beating the Yiga and forcing them out of their main hideaway, Impa gives King Rhoam some distressing news: Further analysis of Terrako's memory banks have confirmed that Zelda's 17th birthday will be the day that Calamity Ganon awakens from its slumber. With time short, Rhoam sends Zelda to the Spring of Courage to try and awaken her holy powers while he has Castle Town evacuated and the soldiers redeployed to the Citadel and Fort Hateno to reinforce the garrisons as if those bases fall, Hyrule is as good as destroyed. Link and Impa join Zelda at the Spring, but despite her best efforts, she cannot awaken her holy powers, and the Spring is soon assaulted by Ganon's monsters. Thanks to Zelda's knowledge of the area and the ruins, they are able to lose pursuit of the monsters and have a moment to catch their breath before returning to Hyrule Castle. Once back, Zelda, again joined by Link and Impa, prepares to leave to head for the Spring of Wisdom at Mount Lanayru, only to see a panicked Terrako scurry up with the Sheikah Slate. As they wonder what's wrong, Calamity Ganon awakens and envelopes Hyrule Castle in a maelstrom of Malice. Fearing for her father, Zelda heads back in, joined by Link and Impa, as the Guardian Stalkers are corrupted with Ganon's Malice and turn hostile, forcing Link, Zelda, and Impa to fight through them until finding King Rhoam. In the end, just as Link and Zelda are fleeing the castle, a Guardian Stalker fires a warning shot at them before confronting them and targeting Zelda. As Link moves to protect her and prepares to try and deflect the laser, the Guardian Stalker is knocked over and stunned by a strike from King Rhoam himself with his claymore sword. He is soon joined by his Elite Guard. Ordering Link to take Zelda and get out of here, when Link prepares to draw the Master Sword to aid Rhoam, he reminds Link that his duty is to protect the Princess, not the King. Understanding his duty, Link keeps the Master Sword holstered, grabs Zelda, and retreats as two more Guardian Stalkers arrive to confront Rhoam and his men, while the stunned one recovers and rotates to glare at Rhoam. As Link and Zelda flee, they hear the Guardian Stalkers get target lock and fire, presumably killing Rhoam and his men.
Once having reached safety, as they watch as Calamity Ganon manifests over the castle and roars, as Impa shows Zelda the images from Terrako of the Divine Beasts under Ganon's control on the Sheikah Slate, Link can only watch Ganon as Zelda collapses in grief and guilt, only to be startled when a bright light shines from Terrako, and it summons several beams that shoot off in four directions. Upon hearing Vah Medoh's screech and seeing it still with blue circuitry, meaning Revali is still alive and there's hope to save the Champions, Link, Zelda, and Impa set off to save their comrades.
Heading to help Mipha in Vah Ruta against Waterblight Ganon, it is revealed that the older Sidon was summoned by Terrako to aid her against the Blight, refusing to lose her a second time. With Link's aid, the Blight is slain, and while Mipha recovers, Sidon helps Link clear the way to an Igneo Talus, which upon its destruction, allows Mipha to use Vah Ruta to clear the way to Vah Rudania, where Link arrives to find Yunobo having been summoned to back up Daruk against Fireblight Ganon. Once the Blight is eliminated, Daruk commends Link for saving them, but then all eyes turn to Zelda to ask about what happened at Hyrule Castle.
While Daruk and Yunobo deal with defending the Hyrulean Army's defensive line with Vah Rudania, Link, Zelda, and Impa go to help Urbosa in Vah Naboris. They arrive to find Riju and Patricia having been summoned to help Urbosa against Thunderblight Ganon. Link soon slays the abomination, before Riju clears the way to Mount Rhoam, where Urbosa blasts the top of the mountain open to allow Link to reach Vah Medoh via the wind current, arriving just in time to aid Revali and Teba against Windblight Ganon. Unfortunately, Windblight manages to escape for the moment upon being defeated. As everyone regroups, Revali reluctantly offers his thanks to Link for saving his life, before Urbosa asks Zelda about Hyrule Castle. Revali and Teba later take out Windblight for good while taking out Ganon's forces with Vah Medoh.
After learning it was Terrako's doing with bringing the future Champions to the past to prevent the Divine Beasts from being taken over by Calamity Ganon, Zelda has Link and Impa accompany her to Akkala Citadel to save it from the siege it was enduring by Ganon's forces. With help from Mipha, Sidon, Daruk, Yunobo, and their Divine Beasts, the Citadel is saved. Urbosa and Riju attempt to help Fort Hateno before being reinforced by the other Champions and their Divine Beasts. However, Astor arrives and unleashes the resurrected Blight Ganons on Link to ensure the fort is annihilated. Despite being outnumbered four-to-one, Link fights them off to protect Zelda as Impa tries to take her to safety, but not wishing to lose Link after having apparently lost her father, Zelda breaks free from Impa and runs back to aid Link. As she does, her holy power finally awakens, stunning the Blight Ganons, and purging the corrupted Guardian Stalkers of their Malice infection, to Zelda's own shock and surprise, and Astor's horror.
Thanks to Zelda awakening her holy power, Fort Hateno is saved just in time, and Zelda rallies the surviving troops under her banner, raising their morale. Joined by a reformed Master Kohga seeking revenge on Astor for sacrificing his Yiga brethren to revive the Blight Ganons, Link and the others head to the Great Plateau to rescue several Hyrulean troops garrisoned there and putting up a fierce resistance. Once at the Temple of Time, Zelda is stunned to find King Rhoam, still very much alive, waiting for her. After explaining how the disc Zelda gave him earlier saved his life from the corrupted Guardian Stalkers by deploying an Ancient Guardian Shield to deflect their eye lasers, stunning them long enough for him and his personal guard to escape and regroup at the temple, Rhoam rallies Link, Kohga, and the others to prepare to take back Hyrule Castle from Calamity Ganon.
Once Rhoam's forces have gathered in Hyrule Field with Hyrule Castle and Calamity Ganon lying before them, Purah supercharges the Sheikah Towers to bring reinforcements to aid them, including Gorons, Zora, Gerudo, and Rito troops, alongside Kohga and his surviving Yiga warriors, and the four Divine Beasts, piloted by their current and future Champions. Passing command to Zelda, Rhoam stands back as Zelda offers a stirring speech to the gathered coalition before giving the order to attack. After taking out Ganon's monsters reinforcing his barrier, Zelda has the Divine Beasts open fire on Ganon directly. However, the Blood Moon rises, allowing Ganon's power to wax to its zenith, resurrecting all his monsters, forcing Link and the others to take them down again before resuming their advance.
As they reach the castle courtyard, they are confronted by Astor and Harbinger Ganon. On the verge of a total psychotic meltdown, Astor declares that their journey to stop Ganon ends here and now, before attacking them alongside Harbinger Ganon, and the resurrected Blight Ganons. Link and the others destroy the Blights once and for all, and soon have Harbinger Ganon and Astor defeated. Astor finally loses it and orders Calamity Ganon to devour Link, Zelda, and the rest of their allies, but having tolerated Astor's failures for the last time, and as Sooga forewarned Astor earlier, Ganon is no one's servant, Ganon has Harbinger Ganon absorb Astor, resulting in Harbinger Ganon being destroyed, and Calamity Ganon to gain a complete, physical form that it failed to attain in the original timeline. Roaring in victory, Ganon causes some of its Malice to hit Terrako, infecting it. Though Terrako tries to fight off the infection, it soon succumbs to Ganon's corruption, and attacks Link and Zelda, forcing Link to fight it to purge the Malice, but leaving Terrako critically damaged afterwards. After Zelda, Link, and the Champions take a moment to mourn Terrako after Zelda finally remembers its name, Zelda, now fueled by rage and hatred towards Calamity Ganon, vows it will be defeated once and for all.
Making their way to where Calamity Ganon awaited them, they engaged the manifestation of Malice and evil incarnate, but due to being fueled by both his present and future selves, Calamity Ganon was invulnerable to all their attacks. When he tries to take out Zelda as she tries to hold him back with her holy power, Terrako is able to reactivate, despite its condition, make its way to where they were fighting, and flings itself at Calamity Ganon, activating its self-destruct to blow up in Calamity Ganon's face, resulting in his defenses being shattered, allowing him to be vulnerable to conventional attack. Once he has been weakened enough, Link moves in for the finisher, and cleaves Ganon clean in two vertically with the Master Sword, allowing Zelda to finish the job with her holy power, despite Ganon's furious and futile last attempt to attack her to stop her.
With Calamity Ganon's defeat and sealing by Zelda, Hyrule is spared the 100 years of turmoil and decay that it would have suffered in the original Breath of the Wild timeline before Link awakens from his slumber in the Shrine of Resurrection. As a result, with their duty complete, the future Champions are returned to the Breath of the Wild timeline by the residual energy left in the Blessed Screw leftover from Terrako, but take with them the knowledge of having helped save an alternate Hyrule from the fate that befell their own, with King Rhoam and the original Champions still alive, Master Kohga and his Yiga having reformed and rejoined the Sheikah, and the kingdom able to rebuild as they look towards a much more brighter future.
