Linlei is a supporting antagonist-turned-supporting protagonist of the anime movie Doraemon: The Record of Nobita's Parallel Visit to the West. He is the son of the Bull Demon Kin and Queen Iron Fan, and originally acts as their spies to lure the monk Xuanzang, but later regrets his actions and becomes an ally of the heroes. He was loosely based on the Red Boy from the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West.
He was voiced by Yūko Mizutani.
Appearance[]
Linlei is a boy around the main characters' age, with blue eyes and ginger hair. He wears a black coif, green robes with yellow lines, and white pants.
Personality[]
Even back when he is working for his parents, Linlei already is insecure and wonders if what he does is right. Although initially only spies Xuanzang for the sake of his missions, he has grown truly bonding with the latter, making him feel painful to go through the mission. It is due to this insecurity that allows him to finally turn good and rescue the heroes, but even after learning of his parents' true nature, he still loves them and grieves over their deaths. He eventually joins Xuanzang as a companion for real.
History[]
Linlei originally acts like Xuanzang's companion on his parents' behalf so that he can lure him into his parents' cavee, allowing the demons to eat the latter and evolve. He successfully completes the task, thus humans in the present day were evolved from demons, forcing the main group to travel back in time to undo the demons' victory. However, Linlei manages to lure them into his parents' cave so that they would be eaten alongside Xuanzang himself.
However, Linlei soon regrets his actions and Xuanzang reveals that he knows the truth all along but still forgives him. Linlei then frees Xuanzang and the main group, and Nobita fights and manages to kill the Bull Demon King. As a result, the cave's magic is disposed, causing Queen Iron Fan to fall into the lava below. Mourning the loss of his parents and the demons, Linlei decides to join Xuanzang in the latter's quest to India, this time for real.
