You keep talkin' to yourself, people'll think you're crazy. (Lightning McQueen: Thanks for the tip!) What? I wasn't talkin' to you!
~ Lizzie

Elizabeth "Lizzie" is an old ditzy elderly Ford car and supporting character in the Cars franchise. She is a supporting character in Cars, and a minor character in Cars 2 and Cars 3.

Lizzie is the widow of Radiator Springs beloved founder Stanley (a statue of him is depicted at the town hall). Lizzie owns the Radiator Springs souvenir and accessory shop and seems to have a crush on Lightning McQueen (despite him being far younger than she is).

She was voiced by the late Katherine Helmond.

History[]

Cars[]

In the original film, she owns the local curio shop, and collects postcards that she sells and keeps as a hobby. She has a knack for sneaking up on people and slapping their rear end with a souvenir bumper sticker, which gets on most cars' nerves. She clearly has short term memory loss, and like Fillmore goes on and on about "the old days". As Lightning McQueen helps bring Radiator Springs back to life, Lizzie is seen talking to the statue of her husband, saying, "Oh, Stanley, I wish you could see this.", implying that she still misses him. She apparently has short-term memory problems which showed through several times in the movie.

Mater and the Ghostlight[]

She appears in the short film where Mater tries to scare her while she's sleeping, but she never wakes up and continues sleeping. She then gathers around Flo's V8 Cafe to hear the story of the Ghostlight. Lizzie and the rest of the cars later appear at the end watching Mater being scared to death, and when Sheriff explains to Mater it wasn't real.

Cars Toons: Mater's Tall Tales[]

Lizzie first appears in Time Travel Mater, when Lightning questions Mater about how Lizzie and Stanley met. He then tells the story of how the two met.

When they travel into the year of 1927, they watch Stanley's eyes focus on the new car in town, Lizzie. Mater helps her when she breaks down, however when she sees Lightning, she appears to fall in love with him. Mater realizes that if Lizzie and Lightning get together, Stanley will leave and Radiator Springs will never exist. It's then revealed that Lizzie had her eye on Stanley the entire time; the two meet and they fall in love. Lightning and Mater then travel to the time of their wedding and Mater finishes the story. On the day of her wedding she appeared to be painted white to resemble the typical bride.

When they return to the present, Lightning says there's no such thing as time travel, and then Lizzie appears and thanks Lightning for introducing her to Stanley and the opposite.

Cars 2[]

Lizzie has a much more minor role in the sequel. At the beginning, Lizzie is only seen in the crowd of townies greeting Lightning McQueen when he comes back home to Radiator Springs, but didn't even know that he was gone all this time. Lizzie is a minor character in the sequel. Strangely, she doesn't see him off at the airport. At the end while Mater is telling a story she talks with Mack, about how crazy Holley is for keeping a dent.

Cars 3[]

Lizzie returns in the third film, first appearing taking a nap on her porch. She says goodbye to Lightning when he leaves to go to the Rust-eze Racing Center, though she thinks he is going to college. She also watches the Florida 500 on television with Red and Sheriff and, during the credits, trains with Lightning, Mater and Cruz at the Racing Center.

Pixar Popcorn[]

In, Unparalleled Parking, Lizzie tests her parking skills with the residents of Radiator Springs and a couple of guests. On her first attempt she failed but on her second try she passed the test.

Video games[]

Cars: The Video Game[]

In the first chapter of the story, Lightning visits Lizzie at her Curio Shop and finds her looking at her postcards. However, he knocks over a shelf, which starts a chain reaction resulting in a fan blowing the postcards out the door. Lightning goes out to find them, but when he finds them all and returns them, Lizzie has forgotten that they were lost.

She can usually be found driving around Radiator Springs earlier in the story, then in Tailfin Pass later on. However, she does not appear in any races, nor is she a playable character.

Cars: Radiator Springs Adventures[]

Lizzie appears in the Radiator Springs Curios activity in Cars: Radiator Springs Adventures. She is on her front porch watching the paint dry when Lightning comes to look for some things to decorate his racing headquarters. She agrees to help, but due to her tendency to forget how she organizes everything, Lightning has to help her put everything back. Lizzie also appears in a Legends Race.

Cars: Mater-National Championship[]

In Cars: Mater-National Championship, as Lightning competes in the various races and events, Lizzie rewards him with stickers in which there are seven in total. Once Lightning has completed all of the events, he takes them off and puts them on a sign in front of his Racing HQ. Once again, she does not appear in any races or as a playable character, but she also does not appear driving around Radiator Springs.

The World of Cars Online[]

Lizzie can be found parked outside of her shop in The World of Cars Online.

Cars: Fast as Lightning[]

In Cars: Fast as Lightning, Lizzie is one of the few non-playable characters to appear in the game. According to the Gameloft website, this is because of her old age. She can be found driving around the player's town and will sometimes provide the player with additional challenges to complete.

Disney Parks[]

Lizzie's Curio Shop appears in Cars Land as a store where guests can purchase various Cars-themed merchandise. Lizzie herself appears in Radiator Springs Racers, once again taking a nap in front of her store when the guests arrive in Radiator Springs.

Personality[]

Lizzie is one of the oldest living citizens of Radiator Springs. She is very old and fragile and she has a tendency to forget things very quickly. However, despite her forgetfulness, Lizzie is very witty where she makes sassy comments such as noting how unclean Luigi's shop is and how crazy McQueen is for talking to himself. Despite her sass, Lizzie is very kind-hearted and grandmotherly as she does care for her friends.

When Lizzie was married to Stanley, she was shown to be very much in love as she was a devoted wife. After Stanley passed away, Lizzie continued to miss and mourn for him, wishing he could see how the town he built was brought to life, thanks to McQueen.

Physical appearance[]

Lizzie is a 1923 Ford Model T 2-Door Sedan painted entirely black, with headlights that have a gray tint. She has a spare tire attached to her trunk but with a chrome interior instead of her four black rims.

Trivia[]

  • A Model T named Lizzie appears in the film as an homage to Ford’s original 1913 “Tin Lizzie,” the first mass-produced car.
  • Lizzie is the sixth Cars character whose original actor died, preceded by Red, Fillmore, Doc Hudson, El Machismo and Lynda Weathers, and followed by Junior Moon.
  • Lizzie is the oldest car to appear in the movies; Stanley is older, but is only shown as a statue.
  • Lizzie was married to Stanley as seen from Mater's Tall Tales: Time Travel Mater.
  • She's the widow of Stanley, who worked as a radiator cap salesman and the town's patriarch.
  • It is unknown how old Lizzie actually is, but given Radiator Springs was founded in the 1910's and she was around by 1927, it is believed she is late mid-late 90's - or possibly 100 - by Cars 3.
