History[]
Background[]
Llewelyn lives with his wife Carla Jean in a trailer park in Texas. A former U.S. army sniper, and veteran of the Vietnam war, Llewelyn works as a welder, and enjoys going out hunting in the desert.
No Country for Old Men[]
While out hunting Pronghorns in the desert, Llewelyn stumbles on the site of a failed drug deal, which left all but one of the participants dead. He finds a briefcase full of money next to a tree. Thinking of how it would make life easier for him and his wife, Llewelyn takes the money back home with him. Later that night, he returns to the site to bring water for the surviving man, only to find him dead from his wounds. He then encounters two men with guns that pursue him in their truck. He is chased by the men's dog, who he kills after fleeing through a river. Returning home, Llewelyn sends Carla Jean to stay with her mother while he goes on the run.
The men that put the drug deal together soon send hitman Anton Chigurh to find Llewelyn and retrieve the money, all while sheriff Ed Tom Bell seeks to find and protect him.
Llewelyn goes to a motel in Del Rio. However, unbeknownst to him, a tracking device was in the briefcase, which leads to Chigurh, and a group of Mexican gangsters, tracking him to the hotel. Llewelyn was fortunately able to avoid them, and escaped with the money while Chigurh killed the Mexicans. Relocating to a hotel in Eagle Pass, Llewelyn discovers the tracking device, and is found by Chigurh. They engage in a firefight, until Llewelyn is able to escape though they were both left heavily wounded.
Llewelyn soon flees across the Mexican border, and hides the case along the Rio Grande. He is then taken to the hospital by a Norteño band. Llewelyn is approached by bounty hunter Carson Wells, whom offers him protection if he gives him the money, but he refuses. Llewelyn later calls Wells, but the phone is instead answered by Chigurh, who just killed wells. Chigurh threatens the life of Carla Jean unless Llewelyn doesn’t return the money.
Llewelyn retrieves the money and arranges to meet with Carla Jean at a hotel in El Paso, so he can give her the money and hide her from Chigurh. However, his location is unintentionally given to a group of Mexicans by Carla Jean's mother, who go to the hotel and kill Moss.
Chigurh later retrieves the money from Moss’s hotel room.
