Lois Patrice Griffin (nee Pewterschmidt) is one of the deuteragonists of the Family Guy franchise.
She is the wife of Peter Griffin and mother of Meg, Chris, and Stewie Griffin. Lois lives at 31 Spooner Street with her family and also with Brian, the anthropomorphic family dog. In The Real Live Griffins, she is portrayed by Fran Drescher.
She is voiced by Alex Borstein, who also voices Misty Luggins in The Bad Guys.
Biography[]
Born Lois Pewterschmidt, she is the daughter of billionaires Carter Pewterschmidt and Barbara Pewterschmidt. Lois grew up in a very wealthy home with her sister, Carol. She also has a long-lost older brother, Patrick, who was sent to an asylum after he became a serial killer.
She met Peter when he was hired as a towel boy by her great-aunt Marguerite. Her rich dad can't accept Peter and makes rude comments every chance he gets. Peter seems to want to do his absolute best not to be a hindrance. He also alludes to having studied at Kent State University.
Lois is currently full time as a mom and spends most of the workday taking care of Stewie, cleaning the house and cooking for her family. However, she is also a piano teacher on the side to supplement the family income. She is currently 42 years old. She is reportedly two years younger than Peter.
Appearance[]
Lois is an 43-year-old attractive Jewish-American woman with orange hair styled into a bell-shaped bob-cut, has green eyes (as shown in the Disney universe), has a fair skin complexion, and a slender hourglass figure.
Lois's billed height is 5 ft 8 in (or 1.74 meters), generally weighs 130 pounds (or 58 kilograms), in "Family Gay", and Peter reveals that Lois is a size four. Her bust size is estimated to be a 36D, in "I Take Thee Quagmire", Lois' lactating breasts have gotten very large after deciding to wean Stewie, claiming "I've gone up two bra sizes" thus becoming a 40D; she was also at one point turned into an L-cup by Christ answering Peter's prayer in "I Dream of Jesus"; and in "Brian the Closer", Lois had a cutaway flashback of a boob-job she had where she wanted to maintain her perky C-cup bust size (from her younger days) through enhancement surgery, but it is implied that Peter discreetly manipulated the surgeon by saying "Z" instead of "C".
She is commonly seen dressed in a teal green button-up woman's blouse with sleeves rolled up to the elbow, tan slacks, and magenta low-heeled shoes with thin red lipstick. Also, her outfit when she leaves Christmas is a blue jacket with a zipper, tan pants, and a pair of brown boots. Her boots have heels, and the soles are a lighter brown.

Personality[]
Though initially appearing to be a typical doting housewife and ideal mother and despite her beauty and sexiness, formerly, Lois had many dark aspects. Lois appears to have a taste for Sadomasochism (S&M), dressing as a dominatrix in "Let's Go to the Hop", putting out a lit cigarette on her arm in "Breaking Out is Hard to Do", asking Peter to put his finger in a bullet hole and twist it when he accidentally shot her in "Barely Legal" and directing Peter to kick her breasts in "Brian's Got a Brand New Bag". Several times Lois has forced Peter to have intercourse with her, yet she sees nothing wrong with this as she believes men cannot be forced to have sex.
She has made it clear several times that she never wanted to be a mother. In "A Fish out of Water" when she and Meg go on Spring Break, during the awkward car-ride she tells Meg that she took birth control but taking antibiotics made it not work, evidently causing Meg's birth. In "Peter's Daughter" she instructs Meg on how to have a miscarriage. Chris was also said to be the result of a broken condom in "Emission Impossible", with the resulting lawsuit paying for the Griffin's house.
Her one-year-old baby Stewie is very much intent on killing her. Incidentally, this could be a direct result of smoking pot whilst pregnant with him. Her relationship with Meg is a complicated one after the first two seasons. She has a way of being supportive and destructive at the same time. When being hurtful, she is extremely caustic. Lois rarely (if ever) steps in for Meg when she’s being abused or disrespected by Peter or anyone else and even cuts down on her confidence by deliberately pointing out how much more confident, outgoing, and exciting she was in and after high school, compared to Meg’s self-loathing and cowardly demeanor rather than bothering to help boost her daughter’s self-esteem. It’s been said in "Screwed the Pooch" that Meg is not really Peter's daughter, but her biological father is named Stan Thompson.
However, in newer episodes, she now has a more non-caring personality and will often show absolutely no emotion or interest in some very emotional situations, and in other cases draw pleasure from others' misery. Some examples being when Meg was upset about not being invited to a party hosted by Chris in "Stew-Roids", she just gives up, gives her daughter some pills and a Sylvia Plath novel, walks out stating "whatever happens, happens". Meg even stated she loved her in "Peter's Daughter", only for Lois to not even respond. When Brain was leaving in "Quagmire's Dad", she doesn't even look away from the television to state her goodbyes. Later in that episode when Quagmire was stating that his father wants a sex change operation, she leaves the room while stating "have fun at the circus" which could either be a cruel joke at Quagmire or barely paying attention to the conversation.
She also has occasionally laughed at Brian such as when she and Peter laughed at Brian when he unknowingly had sex with Quagmire's father and did not bother to tell him why they were laughing at him. It is highly suggested this is due to Peter's constant antics which have severely worn her out throughout the series. In "Jungle Love", she also purposely drew attention to Chris so that he could be hazed on his first day of high school or gave Meg a school lunch in "Stew-Roids" consisting of nothing but food waste and a picture of herself eating a chicken leg.

- She helped Meg Griffin to get revenge on Connie DiMico.
- She tried to save Peter from jail when Peter was arrested for fraud to the state.
- In "Breaking Out Is Hard To Do", Lois saved Joe Swanson from falling to his death.
- She saved her son Stewie from Justin the bully during Halloween 2010.
- Lois has made it clear to Meg that the important thing is not whether a man is rich or not, but what's inside.
- She is often kind to Jillian.
- She has often comforted Meg.
- She saved Rupert, Stewie's teddy bear, from a dog.
- Her final act for the total redemption was to have put together her sister Carol and Adam West together, because these two loved each other seriously.
- She has put Joe and Bonnie together in the episode "Foreign Affairs".
- Her Goodness Zone came in when she saved Scotty Jennings.
- In "Tom Tucker: The Man and His Dream", Lois tries to comfort Chris, since Lindsey had just cheated on him with another person.
- In "You Can't Do That On Television, Peter", she tries to convince Peter to stop being stupid, since he could get into trouble.
- She proved to be very wise in the course of the series, and has always made it clear to his friends what was right and what was wrong.
- With her family, she saved Ross and Pam Fishman.
- She tried to convince Brenda, Quagmire's sisters, to leave Jeff, for her health.
- With Peter, she has put Joe and Bonnie together again in the episode "Internal Affairs".
- Lois has been very sweet with Stewie, sometimes also very protective with her family.
- Whenever her husband Peter causes trouble, it's always Lois that remedies it.
- She tried several times to persuade her father Carter to change.
- Lois was remorseful for having moved Peter away from Cleveland.
- In "Vestigial Peter", she welcomed Chip, Peter's small twin, into the Griffin family.
- In "Brian's a Bad Father", she encouraged Peter to rekindle his friendship with Quagmire and Joe as well as stopped Peter from committing suicide.
- In "Herpe The Love Sore", she encouraged Peter and his friends to get their booth back after it was taken by three stronger, tougher men.
- In the episode "Roasted Guy", she helps Peter to get revenge on Jaime, Karen & Becca.
- In the episode "Fighting Irish", she takes care of a child at Stewie's daycare.
- In that same episode, she offered to help out at that daycare.
- In the episode "Mom's the Word", she tries to comfort Peter for the death of her mother.
- Remorse for her mistakes.
- In the episode "Baking Bad", following a hurricane in Haiti, Lois organizes a blood drive, a very good example of her heroic character.
- In "This Little Piggy", it is revealed that she and Peter engage in romantic activities offscreen.
- In the episode "Hot Pocket-Dial", she helped Peter and Quagmire to make peace.
- In the episode "Scammed Yankees", she stops the execution of Peter ordered by Carter Pewterschmidt.
- In “The Peter Principal”, Lois saves the entire student body after anonymously tipping off the board of education & the parents of the students about how Peter was helping Meg and her friends (with Meg leading the campaign after a little encouragement from Esther, Ruth & Patty after witnessing Peter disciplining Connie and her jock friends) get revenge on them for all the bad things they did to them, and the school board's angry superintendent and the angry parents intervene, causing the superintendent to dismiss him, thus reinstating Principal Shepherd (having recovered from his meltdown during a sex trip to Thailand after his divorce).
- In "Trump Guy", along the rest of the family, she was protective of Meg after Trump touched Meg inappropriately.
- In "Family Guy Lite", it is revealed that she takes a man with special needs named Horatio to the stable to make him happy. In that same episode, she calls out Brian on saying that her having an affair with anyone except him is wrong after he reveals that he thought she was having an affair with Horatio, pointing out his massive hypocrisy.
- In "Connie's Celica", she tried to convince Principal Shepherd not to unfairly expel Connie D'Mico and give her a second chance.
- In "Better Off Meg", after she and the rest of the Griffin family were convinced that Meg is dead, she cried over her death, showing that she does care for and love Meg.
- In "Fecal Matters", she convinced Peter to save his arch-rival, Ernie the Giant Chicken, when he was hospitalized.
- In "Brief Encounter", she helped Peter and Quagmire reaffirm their friendship after they swapped underwear.
- In "All About Alana", she exposed Alana Fitzgerald on her wedding day.
- In "Bend or Blockbuster", she attempted to have a "family fun day" with her family that involved fun activities.
- In "Get Stewie", after Peter decides to spend more time away from his family and enjoy his new lease on life following his drastic weight loss, she convinced him to spend more time with Chris by attending the school science fair.
- In "Adoptation", she saved Tatum from a gorilla pit.
- In "Baby, It's Cold Inside", she saved Peter from getting killed by a shark.
- In "Snap-ple Decision", she took Meg on a tropical vacation after winning a Snapple contest in order to spend bonding time with her. When they later ended up getting kidnapped, Lois tried to convince their kidnappers to let Meg go in exchange for allowing the kidnappers to do whatever they want to her, anticipating that it will be something very bad. She later helped herself and Meg escape using the stuff from her handbag. This episode can basically be summed up as Lois and Meg reconciling.
- In "Teacher's Heavy Pet", she lied about her (disguised as a blonde teacher) and Chris having sex to help Chris maintain his popularity among the other students, although at the cost of being arrested.
