Lone Ranger is a fictional masked former Texas Ranger who battles outlaws in the Old West alongside his Native American friend Tonto. Originally known as John Reid, he is the only survivor of an outlaw ambush lead by his soon to be archenemy Butch Cavendish and his gang who the ambushed the group of Texas Rangers that he was a part of alongside their leader and John's older brother Dan Reid.
The character has been called an enduring icon of American culture.
