Longtooth is a minor character in Generation One of the Transformers franchise. He was based on a figure from the 1989 toyline.
Marvel Comics[]
Longtooth first appeared in the UK-exclusive story "Whose Lifeforce Is It Anyway?", as one of the Autobots on Cybertron. It was revealed that, millions of years earlier, he had hung back during battle, ostensibly caring for a wounded comrade. Optimus Prime had seen him and given him a shard of the Creation Matrix to heal his comrade. Instead, Longtooth had kept the shard in case he might ever need it to save his own life. Although his comrade survived, he felt guilty about it and tended to charge headlong into battle, aware that the Matrix shard could heal him if he fell. Eventually, he felt guilty enough to send the shard to Optimus Prime on Earth to use as he saw fit.
He made his only Marvel US appearance in Issue #64, where he and fellow Pretenders Pincher and Doubleheader formed a team in the quest for the Creation Matrix. Longtooth was initially dismissive of Pincher's belief that they track down the mythical Klud, a sea monster being pursued by various hunters, not realising what he was really saying was that the creature might have been revived by the Matrix. During an investigation of the site of one of the creature's attacks, Longtooth was himself attacked by the Klud and badly wounded. His mind snapped and he became obsessed with hunting the creature down and killing it. He nearly succeeded but was stopped by Thunderwing's Decepticons, who were also seeking the Klud as a clue to the Matrix's location. When Pincher and Doubleheader arrived, a fight broke out and Longtooth again came close to killing the Klud. Pincher approached him and reminded him he was still an Autobot, vowed not to take life unnecessarily. Longtooth let the Klud go.
The post-movie version of the character appeared in "Edge of Impact" among the Autobots evacuating Cybertron for Earth. Kup briefly suspected him of being behind the sabotage of the ship's engines but the real culprit was Rodimus Prime, who had been possessed by Unicron. Longtooth was among those gunned down by the possessed Rodimus.
