GOD, AND KING RICHARD!
~ Lord Loxley, refusing to betray his King

Lord Loxley was a minor hero in the 1991 movie Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. He was portrayed by Brian Blessed.

Biography[]

Loxley was first married to an English noblewoman, who bore him a son they named Robin. After the death of his wife, Loxley entered into a relationship with another woman, who bore him a younger son who would be called Will Scarlet.

When Robin came to him all excited about going on the Third Crusade Loxley was against his son joining King Richard on crusade, feeling that it was folly to force others to become Christians. The two parted ways in anger, with Robin going on crusade and being captured outside Jerusalem by Moorish forces. Learning that his son was in a Moorish prison, Loxley began searching for a way to get his son released so he could return home, promising that he would give the potentate holding Robin all that he had in return.

While writing to someone who was with his son when he had been taken prisoner, Loxley was interrupted by a man claiming that his daughter had been taken by a band of marauders. Donning his armor Loxley mounted his steed. Even though his loyal servant Duncan told him to stay, believing something wasn't right, Loxley left his castle only to find the Sheriff of Nottingham and a bunch of the Sheriff's men waiting for him. The Sheriff tried to get Loxley to join them in overthrowing Richard, but Loxley (loudly) declared his loyalty to his God and his King and charged forward.

Loxley was then taken prisoner by the Sheriff's men. The Sheriff and the Bishop of Hereford then concocted a story that Loxley had been caught worshiping the devil. After a sham trial, Loxley was put to death and his castle burned. Put in a gibbet to rot away, Loxley's mummified corpse was soon discovered by Robin, who had escaped and returned home. After giving Loxley a decent burial, Robin swore to avenge him, something he was able to accomplish by killing the Sheriff in one on one combat. Meanwhile the Bishop was sent out a high window with 30 pieces of silver by Robin's ally Friar Tuck.
