Loretta, also known as Royal Knight Loretta and currently known as Loretta, Knight of the Haligtree, is a character and optional boss in the 2022 action role-playing video game Elden Ring and will make a return in the 2025 spin-off Elden Ring Nightreign. She is a female knight who used to serve the Carian Royal Family as a royal knight but had left her service to help the Albinaurics search for a safe haven. This led her to the Haligtree where she has since sworn her service to the demigod Miquella the Kind.
Biography[]
Loretta originally served as a royal Carian knight and personal guard to the Carian Royal Family. She wields a war sickle as her main weapon, but the weapon she favored greatly is the bow, which is why she developed her own sorceries that allowed her to imitate the power of a greatbow. At some point, she became concerned and sympathetic over the plight of the Albinaurics, a species of artificially-made humanoids who are scorned and looked down on as impure and untouched by the grace of the Erdtree. This drove Loretta to leave her royal service to embark on a long and bloody journey to search for a haven for the Albinaurics to reside in peace.
She eventually found it in the Haligtree, a holy tree grown and cared for by the demigod Miquella, which she determined is the Albinaurics' best chance to achieve salvation. Because her shield is a silver mirrorshield (and possibly because of her sympathy towards the Albinaurics and her favoring of the bow), it is rumored that Loretta is secretly an Albinauric herself, as her shield is symbolically associated with the Albinaurics.
She appeared to have entered into Miquella's service in which she acts as one of the many guards guarding and protecting the Haligtree. In addition, she had removed the blue glintstone that once adorned her war sickle, which was associated with her former service to the Carian Royal Family, and had replaced it with Unalloyed Gold, which came to represent her current service, as the metal is highly associated with Miquella, who had created it in the first place to stave off the Scarlet Rot that is infesting his twin sister Malenia. Ever since she had sworn service to Miquella, Loretta now resides at the Haligtree. Even though Miquella was abducted by his Omen half-brother Mohg, whom he then used to enter the Realm of Shadow, Loretta, however, refused to abandon her post and continued to remain there as of the present.
