Dangle

Lieutenant Jim Dangle is the head of the sheriff's department in the comedy Reno 911 portrayed by Thomas Lennon.

Biography[]

Dangle's trademark are his cutoff trousers, which he claims are for mobility. He is openly gay and sees no problem flirting with and trying to seduce straight men, including his fellow officers. He has demonstrated some bisexuality, though this is heavily downplayed. Deputy Trudy Weigel has a crush on Dangle and is too brain-damaged to understand that he's not interested.

Like all the other Reno officers, Dangle is extremely inept at his job. His bike gets stolen frequently and suspects always mange to give him the slip. The entire department also shows signs of corruption, confiscating drugs and using them later on.

Reno 911: Miami[]

Lt. Dangle and his troops are invited to a police convention in Miami. When they arrive, they find out that there was a mistake and they weren't supposed to come. Dejected, Dangle and the others go back to their hotel rooms. The next morning, they find out that the entire convention building has been quarantined due to an act of bio-terrorism. This leaves the Reno department in charge of keeping the peace in Miami.

After several misadventures, the Reno Department discovers that the assistant deputy mayor was responsible for the police being locked in. He tries to get away, but the Reno department manage to catch him (and accidentally kill him). After finding the cure to the virus and releasing all the other police officers, Dangle is offered a position on the Aspen sheriff's department. Dangle tells them that his department are more than just his troops, they're like his family...but they are also complete morons, so he gladly accepts the position. The others are upset to see Dangle abandon them and go home.

Some time later, Dangle returns to the Reno department and resumes his old job. When asked what happened, Dangle tells them that he had a moment of clarity, only to have this story shot down and he sheepishly admits that he was kicked out after the Aspen department found out he was gay.
