Heroine Overview

Lu Shaotang/Xiaotang is the tritagonist of the action manga series Sakamoto Days. She is a young martial artist who was pursued by a group of assassins before encountering Taro Sakamoto, a legendary assassin who rescued her, alongside Shin Asakura. She eventually started to work for Taro Sakamoto alongside Shin Asakura. She is also the daughter of a Chinese mafia.

She was voiced by Ayane Sakura in Japanese and Rosalie Chiang in English who also voiced Mei Lee in Turning Red.

Appearance[]

Lu is a Chinese young woman in her late teenage years with pink-colored hair and black-colored irises. During her first appearance, she wore a black traditional Chinese Tai Chi uniform with her hair tied in a long braid. In the anime however, her outfit is changed to a pink and white jacket, giving her a modern look.

Personality[]

Lu is confident in her martial arts abilities despite being a bit clumsy while facing her enemies. She is also calm-headed when she tries to escape during her first appearance. Due to having the life of her father taken away by assassins of their organization, she bears a sense of vengeance that leads her to mindlessly charge at her enemies, not realizing the danger. She questions who are they and cries out of happiness in response to seeing Sakamoto and Shin taking out the assassins that were targeting her.

She follows her father's advice to continue living instead of seeking revenge after she has gotten her revenge on Wang, the chairman of the organization that killed his father. She shows her gratitude to Sakamoto and Shin after having been rescued by them by treating them to drink.

Unlike Shin, she immediately accepts to work at Sakamoto's family store but is not as organized when it comes to placing the store's products on the shelves, causing Shin to scold her as she expresses her indifferent attitude. But both have expressed their respect toward Sakamoto as their boss. Shin scolded her again when she was late to work the next day as she said that she did not arrive that late with Shin telling her that she had two hours of tardiness. In the amusement park, Lu can be shown as someone who is not easily adapted to roller coasters. Without hesitation, she also later agrees to follow Shin's instruction to protect Sakamoto's family as they are having fun.

Lu is also quick to spot someone who appears as dangerous to them as she notifies Shin when there is an assassin that is aboard their roller coaster. Lu is also easily frightened by ghosts similar to roller coaster rides.

However, when she gets drunk, her cowardly attitude fades away as she fearlessly confronts a hoard of assassins disguised as zombies. Even when drunk, Lu still recalls of Sakamoto's family's rules, as she responds that killing is against the rules and expresses her caring side by stating that she considers Sakamoto, his wife, his daughter, and Shin to be family to her. When Xiaotang told Nagumo about their bounty issue in a room covered with corpses, Shin was surprised to see her unfazed by the sight of corpses. From time to time, Lu and Shin often get into disagreements while working.

Because of this, Xiaotang is also annoyed about the fact that Shin has a mind-reading ability, thus whenever she comments her thoughts about Shin in her mind, she gets irritated for never being able to peacefully think around him. Upon being kidnapped, Xiaotang heard his kidnappers commenting by mocking how creepy Shin must be if he has the mind-reading ability. Ironically, despite having commented the same thing about Shin in front of him, she corrects them that Shin is a better person than them despite being childish and neurotic. She expresses her respect toward Sakamoto as she demands her kidnappers to apologize.

Xiaotang breaks down in tears (comedically) upon hearing Asakura, the adoptive father of Shin, talking about how Shin's power got others to avoid him as she comments on how sad the story is. She bawls again when she apologizes to Shin for what she said about him back at the store before she was kidnapped. Furthermore, at some of the series, Xiaotang has also been shown some signs of feelings for Shin.
