The Aura is with me!
~ Lucario

Lucario is the titular character and one of the two main protagonists, alongside Ash Ketchum, of the Pokemon movie, Pokemon: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew. He is a Pokemon who served under Sir Aaron over thousand years before the main events of the movie. He and Sir Aaron tried to stop two armies from colliding into Cameran Palace. However, Sir Aaron seemed to have abandoned and betrayed the kingdom and sealed Lucario within his staff. Fast forward to the present day, Lucario broke free of the seal and helps Ash and his friends (and unknowingly Team Rocket) find Pikachu and Meowth, who was captured by Mew in the Tree of Beginning.

He was voiced by Daisuke Namikawa in Japanese, who also voiced Yu Narukami from Persona 4 series, and Sean Schemmel in English, who also voices Goku from the Dragon Ball franchise.

Personality[]

Lucario was very loyal and respectful towards Sir Aaron, seeing himself as a student to his master in learning how to manipulate Aura. However, when Aaron trapped him in his staff, he felt betrayed and lost all respect for him.

Due to this experience, Lucario developed a high degree of animosity against all humans, saying that they can't be trusted. It wasn't until Lucario realized just how much Ash cared for his Pikachu that he began to trust humans again, developing a strong friendship with Ash in the process. As time went on, Lucario found out the truth behind Sir Aaron, his sacrifice, and why he seemingly betrayed him, allowing him to forgive Sir Aaron for misunderstanding.

Biography[]

Over 1,000 years ago, before the invention of Poké Balls, Lucario served Sir Aaron, who in turn served Queen Rin, the queen of Cameran Palace. It is established that Lucario and Aaron have strong aura, invisible vibrations that all objects, especially living things, release.

Lucario is scouting around in the mist of the mountain when he discovered that two armies would soon clash and Cameran Palace was about to be caught in the middle of the said clash, Aaron was on his way to the Tree of Beginning to attempt to stop the battle when he came across Lucario, who had been temporarily blinded by a group of sand kicking Houndoom. Aaron told him that he was never going back to the castle. Aaron told Lucario that he was abandoning the kingdom and threw his staff, sealing Lucario within.

Fast forward to the present time, Lucario was awoken from the staff when it was held by Ash Ketchum, who has a similar aura pattern to Sir Aaron. Still blinded from the attack years ago, Lucario initially mistaken Ash for Aaron, but he regained his sight and realized that he had sleeping for centuries. When Ash's Pikachu is kidnapped by Mew to the Tree of Beginning, Ash and his friends went out on the quest to get Pikachu back. Queen Ilene request Lucario in accompanying them, which he accepts.

The crew takes a break for lunch. As Brock passes out the plates to everyone, a Bonsly takes one of them before he can get to it. It ran away with the food. Lucario picks up the plate, telling Bonsly that it is not okay to steal food from others, he offers Bonsly a berry that he found instead. The crew took another break at a hot spring. Lucario sits upon a rock, remembering the time when Aaron took him here. The memory is interrupted when Ash told Lucario to jump in, but Lucario refuse and walks off.

In nighttime, the crew camp for the night. Ash told his friends the story of how he and Pikachu became partners and best friends while saving it from a flock of Spearow during the lightning storm. Lucario recalls another memory of how Aaron trained him to master his Aura. Lucario suddenly walks away in disgust and calls all humans untrustworthy, and when confronted by Ash, Lucario tells him of his belief that humans and Pokémon could never be friends. Ash gets very angry at this and asks Lucario why they should believe everything he says about Sir Aaron anyway. This angered Lucario, as he goes as far as to insult Ash by saying that Pikachu doesn't want Ash to be his trainer. These words pushed Ash over the edge, and he tackles Lucario, both rolling down a ledge to a pond. The two thrash about in the pond, the others coming to try to stop the two from fighting. Lucario finally throws Ash out to the shore, jumping off to the top of the ledge and walking off. Max comes up to Lucario and gives him a bar of chocolate decides to try it and he enjoyed it.

The next day, as they are getting close to the Tree of Beginning, Lucario stopped at the spot where he had been sealed by Sir Aaron in his scepter, he touched a Time Flower, which are the flowers that displays records events in the area at the time it was planted and then it can replay the scene at a later time when activated by Aura, by accident and soon it replays the same scene when Lucario met up with Aaron, where Aaron renounced his loyalty to the Queen, threw his scepter down, and sealed Lucario in the jewel. Then they watch Aaron fly off. Suddenly, from the two pathways on the road, the green army charges through the small pathway. Lucario appears horrified and begins throwing Aura Spheres at the illusions, barely missing Ash multiple times in the process. Ash tells Lucario to stop and explain that they are only illusions. Lucario does stop, shocked to have seen that event happen. Ash comes up to him, tearfully apologizes for his earlier words against him. Lucario accepts the apology and makes Ash promise to never abandon Pikachu.

Afterwards, Lucario senses something. At the last second, he pushes himself and Ash out of the way just as a Regirock digs its way from the ground. It begins using Hyper Beam upon the "intruders". Lucario covers for them and keeps Regirock occupied before escaping into the crevice. Along the way, Lucario tells them to make a turn at a tunnel. They follow the tunnel, and by now it seems as if they have lost Regirock. At the end of the tunnel, they come to a large cave of ancient Pokémon. Now having made it into the Tree, the only way to get to Pikachu is by going up. Upon entering the Tree of Beginning, Regice and Registeel were informed by Regirock about the intruders and begins to hunt them as well.

When Ash and Lucario encountered Regice, Ash tried to explain to it that he's only trying to find his friend Pikachu. Lucario tells him that is best to avoid the Regis and look for alternative path. In the large crystal cave with blue large crystal pillars stick out from wall to wall, the group bumped with Team Rocket, who are looking for Meowth who was also kidnapped by Mew. Regirock and Registeel found them. Lucario points a way, across one of the blue pillars that run like a bridge to another exit higher up. Lucario at the end of the line finds the three Regis on their tail. He fires an Aura Sphere at the bridge's center, destroying it before they have a chance to cross.

As Jessie and James run up ahead, two red blobs swallowed up both of them. One of them makes it through and almost catches Kidd, but Lucario gets in the way. The blob takes Lucario, but soon dissolves itself as the Tree does not consider Pokémon hostile. The group soon discovered that Regirock and Registeel were once again on their tails. As they ran, they find a room with two tunnels. The group decides to split and meet up later. Brock, May, Kidd head down the right tunnel, and when Ash asks if Lucario is following, he says he won't leave until Ash finds Pikachu, knowing Ash would do the same for him. Ash thanks Lucario before sending out Grovyle and Corphish, using their attacks to slow the Regis down briefly before heading down the other tunnel.

They manage to lose the Regis, but they come up to a huge crevice with crystal pillars coming out from side to side. Ash spotted Pikachu from the other side. Both of them meet in the middle, where they jump to meet, though they soon fall. In the nick of time, Kidd uses her grappling hook to swing across and grab Ash and Pikachu, landing at the tunnel entrance where Lucario is standing. Ash and Pikachu are finally reunited, and he introduces his partner to Lucario, who is now beginning to truly understand the deeper relationship that is possible between humans and Pokémon. Mew and Meowth shows up appears climbing down the pillars. Now they need to escape the Tree of Beginning from the Regis.

The group comes to a room with large crystal formations. Lucario goes on ahead to find the exit but is ambushed by Registeel and Regirock. Meanwhile, Ash and Kidd get eaten by red blobs. As Pikachu and the other Ash's Pokemon try to save Ash, Lucario managed to free himself from Registeel and try to save him too, but it was too late. With Ash gone, his Pokemon are devastated by their loss, especially Pikachu. Mew began to feel sympathy towards Pikachu and decides to tell the Tree of Beginning to free all of the humans characters and they are not a threat.

As the human characters are freed, Mew began to feel weak and the Tree of Beginning is starting to collaspe. Mew showed Ash, Kidd, and Lucario the way to the core room. Upon arriving, Lucario looks to the side and notices that there is a crystal formation with Sir Aaron's body inside it. Lucario was confused on why Aaron is here. Ash finds a Time Flower next to the core and runs up to it to activate it. When the pod opens up, it displays the scene as Aaron comes in, calling out for Mew. Mew arrives and Sir Aaron ask it for its help. He begins delivering his Aura, the only energy that would suffice, to Mew. Mew stores the power and once enough has been stored, goes to the core to begin the Tree's restoration. Lucario realizes that Sir Aaron did not abandon the kingdom but sacrificed himself to save it and that he is truly the hero everyone believes him to be. Lucario is filled with guilt for doubting his master but realizes that the power of the Aura can restore the Tree. Lucario, seeing how he can utilize the Aura that Aaron can, declares he will be the one to do it, even knowing that it will cause him his life. Lucario goes up to Mew and begins transferring Aura, but he is not strong enough. Ash remembers that Lucario mentioned he had the same Aura as Sir Aaron and can control it as well. He puts on Aaron's gloves, which help to channel the energy. Kidd tries to stop Ash, telling him he would be sacrificing himself, but Ash explains that if he doesn't help, the Tree will die and so will Mew and all of the Pokemon that lives there. Both Lucario and Ash begin channeling their Aura into Mew. As time passes and they channel more energy, it begins to strain them. Lucario looks at Ash and, at the last possible moment, pushes Ash out of the way, telling him he'll take it from there. The energy channeling completes, and Mew swiftly moves to the energy core of the Tree, the stored energy releasing a green light that restores life to the Tree of Beginning, saving the Tree and all of the Pokemon living in it.

Lucario stumbles down next to Aaron's crystal, exhausted and in the same condition as Aaron when he collapsed. Lucario's hand bumps into a Time Flower, activating it. This shows Aaron sitting there, saying his last words, telling Lucario that he only sealed him up because he knew Lucario would follow him no matter and did not want Lucario to suffer the same fate. He also says that Lucario was not his servant, but his partner and friend. Lucario sobs a bit and smiles, understanding now Sir Aaron's sacrifice and apologizes for failing him, but Ash assures him that it isn't true and Lucario has proved himself to be a True Guardian of Aura as well. Lucario thanks Ash and then starts to disappear. Ash begs him not to die, but Lucario tells Ash it's all right as Sir Aaron is waiting for him as he goes, turning into an orb of energy that combines with Aaron's energy and floats up to the sky.
