Lucas Caravaggio is a former member of the Keepers of the Keys and the ex-boyfriend of Ellie Whedon, the posthumous overarching protagonist of the first season of Locke & Key, and a major character in the second season. When Ellie uses the Echo Key in a botched attempt to bring him back from the dead, Lucas returns, but with Dodge possessing him as she once did in the hours leading up to his demise. However, she was exorcised from him and he had a more conventional renuion with Ellie. He is portrayed by Felix Mallard, who played Dodge in the same franchise and also plays Ben Kirk in Neighbours.

Biography[]

Lucas Caravaggio befriended Rendell Locke and became one of the Keepers of the Keys, watching over several magical keys stolen from an extra-dimensional entity named Dodge. The Keepers had a sleepover the day after graduating high school, but Rendell (Lucas and Ellie in the books) desired to see the local sea caves. Weeks prior, they had discovered the Black Door deep within the natural formation. In an epic twist of fate, Dodge herself came forward from another dimension and attached herself to Lucas by manifesting as a glowing orange bolt. He and Rendell managed to seal the door again. Lucas said he was fine, and to all appearances he was, for Dodge was canny enough to lay dormant within his body until nightfall.

When the shadow demoness within his body became more dominant over his real spirit, Lucas' thoughts became controlled entirely. Dodge had finally found her Omega Key in the hand of Lucas' peers. Lucas' friends assaulted him and his demonic possessor, but she quickly fought back and smashed Kim Topher's head before twisting Jeff Ellis' neck. Suddenly, Rendell retaliated, smiting her head with a hammer. Because Duncan had witnessed this, the surviving three keepers removed his memories. The keepers made up a story as to what had transpired, and Lucas was buried at sea along with Kim and Jeff.

Season One[]

Twenty-five years later, in a fit of desperation, Ellie uses the Echo Key to summon an echo of Lucas. What she does not realize, however, is that she has actually brought forth the key's owner, forcing her to look like Lucas and trapping her on the property. In Family Tree, Nina Locke pointed out a picture of him and his high school friends; the same picture would later be pointed by Scot Cavendish.

Lucas makes a much more prominent appearance in Ray of F*cking Sunshine and again in Echoes, with Dodge using his appearance. He appears once again in Crown of Shadows as a disguise, but his screen time is less than thirty seconds as Dodge quickly averts to her real appearance, bridging events from the previous episode.

Season Two[]

At the end of the season, Dodge is killed by Tyler Locke with the Alpha Key. The real Lucas emerges from the ruins of Dodge's house and returns the keys that the demon had stolen from the Lockes. The Lockes realize that the real Lucas had been summoned back alongside Dodge, leaving Lucas trapped inside of his own body, a helpless witness to Dodge's actions. As an Echo, Lucas survived his separation from Dodge by the Alpha Key, unlike the other hosts of the demons. Lucas returns to the Keyhouse with the Lockes where he is reunited with Ellie who has escaped from the Black Door.

Season Three[]

Lucas is mentioned to have left Matheson to find a new life elsewhere. Although Lucas doesn't physically appear, his body is still being used as a host by Dodge when Bode travels back in time and encounters the demon.

Personality[]

It is unknown what kind of teenage boy Lucas before he shared his body or after he experienced exorcism through the Alpha Key. While possessed, however, he was extremely complicated, empowering, charismatic, and ambitious, determined to see unity between two unlikely species to end millennia of social and even political hostilities. Despite his personality being unknown, numerous allusions about it have been made. He was described by Ellie as being kind and charming in her eyes, much like how Nina Locke described Rendell. Duncan believed that he was humorous, altruistic, and benevolent; much like his possessor was, although the latter acknowledged it was subjective to claim that of either of them. Indeed, he has also been accused of following Rendell blindly, and likewise showing juvenile deference to Ellie and overestimating her value. It would be unfair to judge Lucas or give him undue credit solely on his activities, both good and bad, throughout the first two seasons however, as his thoughts were fully compromised by Dodge at the time and was not responsible for his petty wrongdoings or commendable achievements alike. However, since Dodge ended up resorting to complete control of him to get him to do her will, it is safe to assume he had the same demonic prejudice as most of his allies.

Victims[]

There exist none of his own volition, but Caravaggio killed four people in self-defense, one accidentally, and three more for various other reasons while possessed. He also incapacitated four people against his wishes.
